Get Rich Or Die Trying

The worst movie of the year! I had to fast forward thru half the movie, the love scenes were terrible. I only stuck with it because I am a fan of his music. They tried to do like a black mob thing, but it was just BAD. 50 cent is the worst actor on th planet, the most monotone actor I have ever seen. And you can't understand half of the dialect.

For someone who is a 50 fan, I still say the worst movie of the year.

It was entertaining to watch and joke aout how bad it was with my friend. Oh, and they pull an 8 mile thing where it is based on 50, but he has a different name. Yeah, real original. His name is young Cezar :lmao:

Up next,

The Jacket

Red Eye

King Kong

Chronicles of Narnia

Slither - YES, i saw 'slither'. the name says it all. once you read it, you know you're either going to like it or hate it. i actually liked it. pretty funny moments with a tiny bit of gore (i would say it's more like a cartoon style not scary at all). more in the vein of tremors.

The Wicker Man - i actually liked this movie. i found it a little bit creepy. not too scary or anything, but i definitely found it interesting. i can't recommend it for everyone tho. it's a bit slow at times, but it was a change of pace from all the horror movies that i watch that use quick cuts and sudden noises to startle the audience into submission.

Am I the only person in the world who has absolutely no desire to see King Kong -- the new version or the original?
Probably not.But I liked King Kong (the 2005 version). It was bloated by about a half an hour, but there's a lot to like. The T-Rex battle is astounding as is the fight in NYC. It's worth a watch.

Saw Capote. Loved it. PSH was incredible.

Saw the Squid And The Whale. Pretty good. Some very good dialogue, but deteriorated a bit toward the end.

Saw Rent. Sucked. Didn't hold a candle to the live show.

I think that's it.

Watched "A History of Violence" thought it was just OK. I really had high hopes for this movie. Just kind of meh?

Also rented King Kong. Pretty solid. Enjoyed it more than History of Violence.

I've never seen the original, and don't want to. I'll probably wind up seeing the enw one eventually, but only because I have the movie channel and am bored a lot, not because I'm actually going to go out of my way to see it.My recently watched movie: Lords of Dogtown. It didn't suck, but I'm in no hurry to see it again either. Interesting. Heath Ledger had some great scenes and some not-so-great scenes. It also said at the beginning that there would be nudity. I don't remember any nudity.

Watched A Sound of Thunder last night, given the source material (Ray Bradbury) I was hopeful this would be good.

It was the worst movie I've seen in a long time. Terrible performances, terrible special effects, half-baked story, jumbled psuedo-science. Mystery Science Theater 3000 should come back just to parody this movie.

The fact that this was a terrible movie is a tremendous disappointment to me as this is one of my all-time favorite science fiction stories.

Cube - It was interesting. I thought it was a good idea, and it was ok, but I think there was something missing. They didn't quite pull it off. Not bad, though.

I think someone like David Fincher could have made this an A+ film. But considering it was low-budget with minor actors, I thought it deservered a solid B.

KING KONG-

with finger on FF button-

After the 1st hour of the movie I was already thinking about how I was going to bash this movie in this thread, but then it got a little better. After waiting an hour to see the freaking monkey.

FF thru this movie and it is worth seeing

All the love scenes sucked and were way to drawn out. The scenes with the girl and King Kong were way too long as well.

The CGI and special effects were phenominal. Seeing King Kong go Jet Lee/ Hulk Hogan/ Steve Irwin on 3 T-Rex's was worth renting alone.

It reminded me of a script writen by a 7 year old boy. Then they are going to get attacked by wild indians, then a big gorilla, then dinosaurs, then giant spiders, and giand ants, and giant scorpions, and more dinosaurs, etc...

Oh and props to Jack Black in a more serious role-

I watched Videodrome last night and it was interesting but very dated since it was made in the 70's. David Cronenberg the director does a nice job with the special effects but the story/plot is more symbol than substance. The movies does have a few S&M scenes nothing to graphic but in the 70's this probably was considered racy, but now just seemed like a waste. Also why does James Woods always do these type characters?

Lord of War   ..... Small spoilers

I liked this movie except for the last 15 minutes. I thought that the ending with the death of his brother and the fact that he worked for Uncle Sam to be forced, preachy and out of character for Nick Cage's character. Other than that, I thought it was really well done and did a good job of showing the shadier side of war.

I finally got around to renting an Evening with Kevin Smith (2 Disc rental from Netflix). I watched the first disc last night and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. He's a good public speaker and a very good story teller. He's got a natural talent for conversational Humor as well (as if you couldn't tell that form him movies).

Flightplan (instead of The Constant Gardener - coin flip)

bad movie.

that's all i have to say. just not good. wasn't going in with high hopes and it still let me down.

Brick

Great film noir. Putting Chinatown in a high school setting seems a little far-fetching but it worked. The dialogue and story are great and not dumbed down for the audience. You really don't know what's going on most of the movie but it's fun ride anyway.

It's in limited release so you'll have to look for it.

Just watched the Fantastic Four.

I didn't think it was too bad, perhaps because I had such low expectations.....but really I enjoyed it.

Paradise Now. IMDB

Movie about two Palestinian young men "chosen" for suicide mission. It was fascinating portrayal of that side of the equation. I would highly recommend it. Also, I couldn't help but think the whole time that learning Arabic would be immensely challenging.

Watched Capote tonight...meh.

It was kind of hard getting past the annoying voice. It really dragged throughout and I'm sorry but I can't feel sympathy for Perry. When Hoffman cries at the end I was getting sick. Hang 'em!

It did nothing to get me interested in the life of Truman Capote, who I knew next to nothing about going in.

I had low expectations going in and even that wasn't reached.

Constant Gardner is awful as well. Saw 16 Blocks today. It was the normal shoot-em up Bruce Willis movie. The idea was for Willis to take the prisoner 16 blocks to the courthouse so the prisoner could testify against corrupt officers. As you can imagine, A LOT of hell took place in those 16 blocks (or else there wouldn't have been a movie)

As a side, the prisoner spoke in a really messed up voice. I found it annoying...

Movie....6/10

Margaritas that helped me make it through the movie....10/10

Not new by any stretch, but just saw Jackie Brown. The more Tarantino flicks I see the more I like the guy's work. Seemed like a much lighter version of Pulp Fiction, but I still thought it was a very good movie.

Great flick.Everyone was excellent.

I've always wondered why Robert Forster has never really made it big as an actor. He has a very good on-screen presence.

LOVE that film and I own the special edition DVD. Grier and Forster are amazing. Very underrated Tarantino film.

Chronicles of Narnia-

A little slow in the begining, but picked up. The effects and CGI were  , as were the physics of how they moved.

Would have been much better if it was R. I wanted to see asslon bite that witches face off! For sure a kids movie 1st.

I wish i could have seen it on Blue-Ray, would be great in HD.

The fight scenes were pretty cool but IMO the medieval charging can never be done as good as Bravehart. The only reason this was not played out is because it was different species, so that was cool. The Gryphons dropping rocks

I did however want to see more of the giants, and gorilas fighting. I wanted to see more animals fighting in general. Wild animals fighting are cool.

The guys with horse lowers human uppers were neat to watch double wield the swords.

I couldn't help but think that fawn was trying to molest the little girl :bag: I forgot he was turning her in. It's a shame that today in modern society if you see something like that you think molestation.

Oh and one of the worst things about the movie is that nobody dies. Not Asslon, any of the kids, nor the fawn. Only the bad guys really. You got to have at least a one main guy die.

Waiting

I went in not expecting too much, but I enjoyed it.

"Waiting" Synopsis: A waiter for four years since high school, Dean (Justin Long) has never questioned his job at Shenanigan’s. But when he learns that Chett, a high school classmate, now has a lucrative career in electrical engineering, he’s thrown into turmoil about his dead-end life.

Dean’s friend Monty (Ryan Reynolds) is in exactly the same boat, but he couldn’t care less. More concerned with partying and getting laid, Monty is put in charge of training Mitch (John Francis Daley), a shy new employee. Over the course of one chaotic shift, Mitch gets to know the rest of Shenanigan’s quirky staff: Monty’s tough-talking ex-girlfriend, Serena (Anna Faris), Shenanigan’s over-zealous manager, Dan (David Koechner), and head cook Raddimus (Luis Guzman), who’s obsessed with a senseless staff-wide competition known only as “The Game”...
Don't mess with people that serve your food!

I thought about watching it at the theatre (with it being a "big scale" picture), but never got around to it. Like Smoo, I'll probably stumble onto it on the dish one day when I'm bored.Saw Capote last night. The Hoffman performance was insanely good. I'm glad I waited until DVD, because I had to rewind more than once to hear what was said. It was a good companion piece if you've seen the 60's movie "In Cold Blood". Don't rush out and rent it though...wait for it to be on the dish.

Zathura.

You already saw Jumanji? You liked it? Great...Zathura can't hold Jumanji's jock.

You already saw Jumanji? You hated it? Great...Zathura can't hold Jumanji's jock.

The sibling rivalry in this movie got downright annoying, and the sudden resolution of everything evil in the world at the end was OH so realistic. Oh and a "never saw that coming" twist that will make you go  . And it was marketed as a family movie...I'm sure my 3 and 6 year olds would have not been interested either.

So I didn't care much for it. Save yourself the 2 hours and watch Boogie Nights or somthing instead.

Run Lola Run

I really enjoyed it, but I'm not sure why. The soundtrack is pretty cool and for some reason, Franka Potente is mesmerizing when she runs. I mean seriously, I could watch her run all day long. She's not all that attractive, but

And while watching foreign films it never ceases to amaze me how different Americans are from everyone else.

I think it's cool like Tarantino wants to be without all the over the top violence.

So Run Lola Run > Tarantino?

 I haven't seen much Tarantino. I liked Reservoir Dogs okay, but LOATHED Pulp Fiction.Haven't seen the Kill Bill's yet, but mean to.

I just don't think QT is as cool as he thinks he is.

Run Lola Run is a mix of Tarantino and John Woo with a dash of Christopher Nolan (Memento).

I think RLR is a cool flick, but it is in no way even close to any Tarantino film. If you didn't like Pulp, you may like Jackie Brown. Much less violence and a subtler plot.

I rented the following films based on recommendations in this thread (and maybe the other like thread):

City of God: Very Good

Incognito: Crap

The Machinist: Good

The Suicide Kings: Okay

Don't Look Now: Weak

Shallow Grave: Good

The Twilight Samurai: Awesome

Donnie Darko: Good

Thanks and keep 'em coming.

I agree with your ratings, but haven't seen these. Don't Look Now has a 7.4 on IMDB, I'll have to check it out.I was also told to watch Mike Leigh's "All or Nothing".

Showtime was free a couple of weeks ago, so I took the opportunity to TIVO some HD movies.

So far I watched Godzilla with Matthew Broderick. I never actually got around to seeing it after all the bad reviews. It wasn't really that bad. Great effects. I guess being a NY'er might have helped. Better than expected.

The others I recoreded:

Mean Girls

Sky Captain...

Hotel Rwanda

I'll report back.

Mean Girls is cool, I haven't seen those other two.

I saw Primer.... It had an interesting take on time travel But I'll have to watch it again to get a better grip on the continuity.
I have watched it a few times and everytime I get some more answers but also get new questions.

Hustle and Flow.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this one. In all honesty I was really curious just to hear that pimp song and see why it got the best song oscar. I could not imagine what could possibly be so great about it to warrant that award. After seeing the movie, I still don't think I get it but I guess maybe I can see how if you include the context of the movie.

I thought the movie was decent, and I don't consider myself a hip hop fan in the least. Must admit I had a little trouble understanding what the heck they were saying some of the time. :bag: But some good acting, pretty well done.
