Watched two movies this weekend that featured pretty much one set.

Buried: Ryan Reynolds buried alive in Iraq. I thought it was going to be pretty boring just watching a guy in a coffin for an entire movie but it was very well done. Don't watch if you're claustrophobic!

Frozen: 3 people get trapped on a chairlift on a Sunday night and the resort doesn't open again till the following weekend. Interesting predicament that the people are in if you've ever been skiing. Do you jump? Wait? Climb the lift?

The things I hated about this movie:

1) They decide someone needs to jump. It is about a 40 foot drop but you really don't have much of a choice. So the guy throws away his snowboard and launches himself off the lift. Naturally, he breaks both of his legs which for some reason made me queasy. First movie that has ever done this to me. Now, jumping was the right choice IMO. BUT, you keep your damn snowboard on to alleviate some of the impact! You also don't actually jump. You hang from the lift then drop.

2) About 5 minutes after he hits the ground and is unable to move, a pack of wolves come and eats hims. The movie was based in New England and from a quick google search, they don't seem to have many wolves let alone a giant pack of them at a ski resort.

3) The next guy climbs up to the cable holding the chair lift and then down to one of the poles that has a ladder on it. He makes it to the ground fine and sits on a snowboard and starts sliding down the hill... and instantly the wolves are back and chase him down. You don't find out till later, but yes, they do eat him.

4) The chairlift eventually falls the 3rd person (chick) makes it to the ground with nothing more than a hurt foot. She starts making her way down the hill and then comes face to face with the pack of wolves eating the second guy. After a stare down with them, they completely ignore her and go back to eating!

5) When she does make it to the bottom of the hill, you'd thing that she would be at the resort, right? Wrong! Nothing but an empty road!

Can somebody explain why I should've liked The Town more than I did? Found it very meh as a movie- some good action, I guess, but the rest of it was a formulaic hodge-podge aping of other similar movies. The writing was.... not good. Good cast though. And boy does Ben Affleck like filming himself. Please- I'm still in a relatively open mind-set about this ... why did you guys like this?

Yeah, finally caught this and thought it was highly derivative of Heat and the recent spate of Boston crime flicks, without adding anything new. It was still entertaining, but I was hoping for more. 3/5

I started to watch Noise, with Timothy Robbins as a psychotic NYCer who goes on a one-man rampage against car alarms.... looked potentially funny, but I was too tired to invest any energy. should I finish it? Anybody seen this?

Haven't seen it, but every scene I saw out of context looked pretty lame.

The majority of the kids in the film were also very funny, not very often you see kids nail comedic lines like they do in this film. Though the movie kind of peters out at the end, if you can withstand some overtly corny stuff, you'll be treated to some grade A comedy by watching this film.

Good movie. You may also enjoy the Reno 911: Miami movie. Some of the same actors and writers.

The song that plays in the background a lot sounds exactly like the song from True Romance...with the metal drums...same one?

I'll take that as no one knows or cares. But did QT have anything to do with the True Romance score? I know he puts a LOT of time and effort into the music in his movies...and I always loved that metal-drum song in True Romance...did he pick that, and if so did he rip it off from Badlands?

Can anyone give me your quick review of Southland Tales? I'm interested in watching it, but don't want another clunker like Sky Captain.

While I can't honestly call it a good movie, I found it to be pretty entertaining. Its weird as hell and constantly flies off the rails while making only small amounts of sense, but its basically an entertaining B-movie. Its much more entertaining than Sky Captain. I'd also give it points for being extremely unique, there isn't really another movie I think I could compare it to.I'm under the impression this is a love it or hate it type movie though. it was VERY poorly received by critics.

I'd give it 8/10, but I'm probably in the minority.

Saw it tonight. Actually enjoyed the hell out of it. I can't tell you what it's about, but I liked it. The soundtrack played a huge role in my entertainment. I could see me watching this flick again.3.5/5

Paper Man: Went into expecting a comedy... and why wouldn't I went the cast is Jeff Daniels, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds and Lisa Kudrow. It ended up being about a very odd friendship between a old writer and a young girl both struggling through life. The movie got very poor critic reviews (but good users reviews) and I'm guessing in most part because the friendship was just too far fetched. Reynolds is really the only comedic relief as he plays the role of Captain Excellent, Daniels' imaginary friend. I'm turning into an Emma Stone fan pretty quick and not just because she's hot. She was great in this and in Easy A.

QT didn't direct the "TR" film. Tony Scott, a very accomplished director in his own right, directed it instead. Tarantino dusted off an old script for the project, as I understand it. Scott and the producers would be responsible for all decisions regarding soundtrack.

Pirate Radio Mrs. TRF and I caught the last 30 minutes of it the other night. It was awesome. So we DVR'd it and will watch it this weekend. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!

This movie is really fun. Nothing really unique about it - and the one-dimensional British fascist government was over the top. But I sure liked it a lot.

Just watched this. I liked it until the ending. The ending was awful.

sam jax is fantastic in the movie. davis does a pretty good job of it too. the director, renny harlin, was married to her at the time. to me, this movie is very much a product of its time.

I had high expectations because I have liked his past movies, but this movie stunk. His character was so unlikable that you didn't really care if he lived or died.

For me, Ledger was exactly as good as all the hype.

They are over the top, and that goes for Jack's version of the Joker. Basically he played it as a mildly creepy clown - cheesy, dancing around, etc... I know it's an iconic role, but I think it's one of those that our memories distort the greatness of those movies and the Joker quite a bit. Although I didn't like Dark Knight quite as much at Batman Begins, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen when Ledger was in the scene. Actually brought some menace and depth to the role and nailed the part, IMO.

The Human Centipede: Just awful. Shut it off after about 45 minutes which was about 40 minutes too long.

The Kids Are All Right: Very well done but a pretty boring story. Never was I excited for what would happen next... mostly because it was all pretty obvious.

Another chick flick for the wife, Going the Distance, with Drew Barrymore and Justin Long. It was actually pretty good/funny. One scene had me rolling on the floor with an awesome deadpan delivery from Jim Gaffigan. It had some obvious chick flick cliches going, but deviated enough to feel original. If your wife is asking for a movie you could do worse.

Good points and good description of Ledger's performance. Funny- I wasn't even thinking about the Jack/Joker role... which is a bit strange, considering. I had the Shining more in mind, along with typical Jack craziness across other parts. Agree that Jack's Joker was cartoonishly over the top compared to the more human performance Ledger gave his- but again, Jack's Shining was what I had in mind.

I thought Ledger created one of the few truly original, terrifying and menacing villains of all time. I never felt fear watching Nicholson's cartoonish Joker.

I didn't really mind the job Ledger did, but I definitely think it was overrated. But that may be because everytime I've seen the Joker in comic pics or on animated shows he was much different...

She's miscast. But when he slicks back his hair, that was one of the more amusing scenes I've seen in a movie.

Yeah, especially considering there were many women there who were much more attractive. But hey, the Joker is insane, afterall...
