Where the Buffalo Roam is so much better than Fear and Loathing that they didnt even need the psychedelia to make is better

Any movie that tries to simulate a drug trip almost always fails. It's like movie sex: it's never as good as the real thing. The only movie that I can recall that really captured a drug trip with any accuracy was Requiem for a Dream.

X
Drugstore Cowboy

Loved that movie, but it's been so long since I've seen it that I can't remember the drug trips.

Neither do I. Might have to fire that one up again.

Its probably top 10 for me, all time. The drug scenes were all heroin or narcotic, rather than halluecenogens, so I think it was probably easier to depict. But I thought it was spot on.
Gus Van Sant may not have that great of batting average, but when he hits, its out of the park:
Drugstore Cowboy, To Die For, I can re-watch anytime and thoroughly enjoy.
My Own Private Idaho, Good Will Hunting, and
Milk are all pretty amazing, altho they don't have the rewatchability factor.
