I watched "Lucky Number Slevin" last night and thought it was a great flick. Kept me entertained, pretty much through out the movie, there were some boring spots but over all I enjoyed it. And I finally found out what smoo is.

This has probably been discussed in this thread at some point, but I watched "The Matador" tonight on cable. I liked it. Brosnan is a good actor. I wonder if he will come back with another debonair, Bond-type of role again or if he will continue to try different types of characters.

Crank -- It won't test the limits of your intellect, but for am intense, non-stop 90 minute action adrenaline rush, it was pretty fun.

Just watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre: the Beginning. Some good, bloody fun. If you liked the remake TCM, Hills Have Eyes, etc... check it out.

Saw a couple:

Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai..... I thought it was pretty good. Forrest Whitaker took what could have been a pretty cheesy movie and made it interesting.

Idiocracy: I thought it was a pretty good premise...but taken too far. The people in the future were just too dumb. If it had been toned down a little..it would have been better.

May have watched this biggest cluster-F of a movie ever made last night. Shockingly bad.

M. Night's "Lady in Water."

It was like the script was written as they shot the film. Now I understand the trouble Disney had with Night over this film.

It was so bad it really makes you question Night's ability. It seemed like he just threw his jock out there expecting that to be enough.

Anyways one of the most dissappointing movies I've ever seen. Sixth Sense was a great flick and Signs was entertaining. Unbreakable is one of the top films made in the last ten years.

Even "The Village" was decent.

I'm a sucker for his ####, for some reason.

Watched a total Chick Flick the other night that I enjoyed a lot...

The 'O' in Ohio

Paul Rudd (40 YO Virgin) and Parker Posey are both excellent in this one. Also, Danny DaVito puts up one of his best roles in a long long time. I totally expected to HATE this movie, but found it fresh, funny and interesting.

If you want to grab a movie for your chick that you'll also enjoy, give this one a shot.

One last thing - it takes place in CLEVELAND! how many movies can you say that about!!!

They are good movies as long as you aren't over-analyzing everything that happens.

The Station Agent

Really well done movie with a nice story about a few people with troubles. Wasn't sad, wasn't funny but it was a nice combination and the acting was impeccable. A few surprises I won't address that make this even better. :wall:

:banned: Love that movie.
:hifive: My woman always finds these damn movies that I ##### about having to watch, that end up being great. :bag:

Superman Returns

I don't think it's just that I'm getting old, but they really should have cast the movie with an adult to play Superman. It was more like Superboy.

A couple of good scenes, good effects. But not something I could ever recommend.

Certainly. M Night makes movies that most directors would look pretty bad at. He isn't perfect, but he sure knows how to create interesting stories.

Good little movie. I'm here to say that there are way too many films that deal with romantic love and almost nothing available that deals with friendship. Finallly, here's a movie that deals almost exclusively with friendship.

Just watched this too. I was entertained as well. Pretty good story. Thought it could have been better if they took a more serious tone because they had a decent story and the actors to do it.I'm amazed at how poorly this did at the box-office. I checked it out only $22 mill. What a crumby marketing job they must have done. The title of the movie is pretty weak too.

This movie was an inferior version of a Tarantino/Guy Ritchie film, but it was still entertaining.

 The wife and I liked the movie. Everybody at the store seems to complain about it though. Not sure that I would place Unbreakable as one of the top films of the last decade- that's a bold statement. :lmao:

Employee of the Month

I know this comes as a surprise, but this was a stinky turd of a movie. Of course it might be worth the rent for some of you for Simpson's fun bags.

the machinist - i really liked this film. reminded me of something that cronenberg might do. bale is remarkable in it. i am rarely surprised in films but this did a nice job of keeping me truly interested.

meet the fokkers - hotel HBO late night viewing and a total stinker. dreadful.

charlie & the chocolate factory - another hotel flick but i enjoyed it.

I watched "Invincible" last night, thought it was a good movie, even better when I found out at the end it was based on a true story

The Machinist was cool. Not great, but well made with amazingly eerie sets and art direction. Meet The Fokkers stinks. I like Ben Stiller. I liked his short-lived TV show. But rarely does this guy make a movie worth seeing. Fokkers, Mystery Men, Zoolander. What a bunch of garbage.

I just watched most of "The New World" with Collin Ferrell and Cristian Bale. It's one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Painful.

Superman HD- Picture was great, plot kind of sucked. I thought it was pretty drawn out, so I could oly imagine the kids who had to sit thru this might not enjoy it. Some good effects and cool scenes.

After much anticipation, I finally got to watch Kurosawa's Yojimbo. This was the film that Sergio Leone adapted as Fistful of Dollars. I'm a huge Eastwood fan and Fistful is one of my favorite all-time movies. So Yojimbo had tough competition and sadly, it didn't stack up. It's the first Kurosawa film that I've been disappointed with. That's not to say I didn't like it, because I did. It just didn't live up to the hype that I placed on it in anticipation that it would rival Seven Samurai as my favorite Kurosawa film.

There was none of the sweeping wide-open imagery and fast paced action scenes of previous epics. I guess it was intentional, but many of the supporting cast were goofy and cartoonish. And to me the biggest difference was the development of the Man With No Name character. Mifune, in a great performance, didn't really seem like a deep conflicted man, like Eastwood. Mifune was all about the money. Even when he helps the woman escape, you're not sure of the motive. Maybe it gets lost in the translation.

Also, the fight scenes still need much to be desired. Kurosawa films always feel like they could be modern movies, except for the fight scenes. Probably to do with a combination of special effects and censors back in the day. The fights in the movie look like fencing fights, not sword fights. There was much more bloody aftermath than in previous films though.

A couple of other things:

I always watch the trailer before watching the movie. In the trailer Mifune is in a one-on-one duel with the guy with the gun. He shoots straight ahead and the scene ends. In the movie, the guy with the gun is backed by the whole clan and dives off to the side before shooting. I really was hoping for a High-Noon duel as a climax to the flick.

The DVD transfer also puts the subtitles below the actual film so you can't zoom to fill the 16x9 screen. Not smart. Had to watch with black bars on all 4 sides.

Very tough to rank. I have to adjust the movies to group them since.

We'll see how Sanjuro is.

Ranking so far:

Seven Samurai

Rashomon

Throne of Blood

.

.

.

Yojimbo

Ikiru

The Bad Sleep Well

.

Hidden Fortress

The Protector (Tony Jaa). Good action, kinda silly plot with the elephants, but he is a bad arrrrse mofo.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Beginning. Your usual TCM movie, lots of gore.

The Proposition. I heard some good hype about this one and it lived up to it. I guess I would call it an Aussie-Western. Nick Cave actually wrote it. Guy Pearce and Emily Watson are in it. Beautiful landscape shots throughout. There are some very violent scenes but in most cases it was called for. All aspects of this film were well done. It wasn't quite and "A" movie because it was slow in parts but it's a solid B+. Definetly worth checking out.
I watched this last night and this is a good review. It was good, but it missed being great because it got pretty slow in some parts.Beer League -- I generally like Artie Lange and had some high hopes for this movie but it just wasn't funny. The jokes were tired -- I'd seen them all in many previous movies.

I watched it twice. The second time, I really developed an appreciation for the pacing of the film. It was very deliberate, and although "slow," it worked well. The first time through, I couldn't help but wonder why so much time was spent with the sheriff and his wife. It made much more sense having had seen the film all the way through the second time around. The dragging pace makes the payoff that much more profound. Good flick.

Just saw 'Hoot'.. it is a family movie about a group of kids trying to save some protected owls from a developer in Florida.. not bad, cool soundtrack by Jimmy Buffett and GREAT Florida everglades scenery.. Good family movie that the kids will enjoy. (The owls are cute)

Also, Idiocracy was just ok for me.. as others have said, great premise, just overdone

Last Kiss-- WHY oh WHY did I rent this steaming piece of rat ####?? terrible
