Finally got to see Delicatessen last night, after wanting to see it for years. I liked it very much. It's not as good as Amelie, but you can see the director perfecting some of the techniques that he would later use in that film.

I agree with that. I didn't care for A Very Long Engagement with Audrey Tatou as much.I really enjoyed Being There with Peter Sellers after finally seeing it. Loved all the 70's TV that was in it. Fans of Harold and Maude or Dr. Strangelove should definitely see it you haven't.

Good movie. Sellars was a genius.

Watched Bullitt last night for the 1st time.

Great movie, very gritty and true to life type of crime mystery. I wasn't really sure what to expect, I had always heard it had this mind-blowing chase scene and while the scene was good, especially the end of it, it's hard to compare it to the stuff they do today.

It helps out if you know that Steve McQueen did all his own stunts and driving in his films and there's no CGI in there. I think that really adds to the respect I had for it.

Crank -- It won't test the limits of your intellect, but for am intense, non-stop 90 minute action adrenaline rush, it was pretty fun.

Statham was made for this kind of movie.

May have mentioned it before, but if you like intense all out action, check out District B-13. It was much better than I anticipated, with some truly moments.

Read some reviews on imdb.....I MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!

Expected it to suck, and came away very impressed. Watched it like 3 times in 2 days.

Also just watched Crank the other nite. The original description was right on...great movie I thought. Not for those prone to epileptic seizures though I would warn. But very quick and intense. If you are into action flicks, definately check this one out.

Bullitt and The French Connection were sort of the progenitors of the modern chase. I always stop and watch Bullitt's chase because they were in seventies muscle cars, man.

It's a great movie and one of the best of the genre. McQueen really solidifed his place in pop culture with the role. As for the "chase", I hate to be bearer of bad news... wiki

Though it is widely believed that Steve McQueen, who was a great race car driver, did the bulk of the driving stunt work, the stunt coordinator, Carey Loftin, had famed stuntman and motorcycle racer Bud Ekins do most of the risky stunts in the Mustang (Ekins also doubled for McQueen in one sequence of The Great Escape, in which McQueen's character jumps over a barbed wire fence on a motorcycle).

No doubt McQueen would have tried to do the stunts but likely the studios (and their insurance underwriters) wouldn't allow him to participate in a chase where speeds reached in excess of 110 mph.

Watched "An Inconvenient Truth" last night. While some of what Gore talks about are worst case scenarios, it's troubling nonetheless. I know that it would have been nice to have a thoughtful, intellectually curious guy like Gore as our president, rather that the dude we have now. After watching this, I was ready to drive to Washington and start punching people in the face.

In the last two days:

Open Season (with the fam) - decent movie to watch with your two year old and wife. I didn't hate it, and actually giggled a couple of times.

Unknown (by myself) - Meh. Supposed to be Memento-ish, but failed. The premise was pretty cool...they just didn't pull it off. Included a "twist" at the end that left me saying "huh" instead of "wow."

The Illusionist (with the wife) - Really enjoyed this movie. In spite of all of the silly hangups (accents, for instance) I thought it was a fun, interesting story. I would have appreciated a little more "explanation" of the big ending, but it was worthwhile nonetheless.

I didn't really want to watch this, but my wife did. I guess I'm kinda glad we got it. As tough as some scenes were to witness, it was a very well made movie. Maybe shying away from it is the wrong thing and we should embrace every movie made about 9/11 just so we never do forget.

I didn't know they had a fake bomb. That makes a big difference in thinking about how they pulled it off.

worth seeing. Can't recommend it. Stirs up too much ####.

Just saw "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" tonight - for some reason one of my friends had a copy of the disc. It's by the director of Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance - Chan Woo Park. I heard it was getting so-so reviews in Korea, but I thought it was one of the best movies I've seen this year, on par with Oldboy. Some really cool scenes in this film, I was really impressed. However, the film is not for everyone - the gf thought it was so-so.In my opinion, I can't really think of any director nowadays making such original films as well as Chan Woo Park these days.

Saw 3- I liked it primarily because it stuck with the whole game theme. It was cool when the guy was revealing who he was testing, and how all of the games came together at the end. Pretty nasty, and will have you cringing your teeth the whole movie. I guess you need to be a little F'ed up in the head to get a kick out of the crazy torture games.

The Descent- I didn't like it too much, but I think my gf and friend did. Just seemed like the typical bad acting horror movie to me.

Miami Vice HD- movie could have been cut in half, it was way too long. Colin Ferrel had a horrible american accent, and at times sounded like a cowboy. FF thru the slow scenes and it isn't bad, but this movie really drags on.

Watched Billy Wilders "The Front Page" with Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon and Susan Sarandon. Nice old comedy, typical Billy Wilder style. Matthau and Lemmon are a effective combo here.

I Tivo'd this the other day in HD. Mostly because I'm on my Kurosawa kick and Mifune is in it. I don't think I ever saw it before because of how bad the reviews were. Hopefully the low expectations will make it a better viewing.

Flags of Our Fathers -- This is a very good movie. I can't wait to now see Letters From Iwo Jima. This movie isn't, however, a straight war movie. It is more the story of the flag raising and how it affected the men afterward. Its very, very good.

Green Street Hooligans - I really enjoyed this movie. For whatever reason I recorded it to my PVR and gave it a shot, and I wasn't disappointed. Although I think they could have got a better actor for the main character. The plot outline from IMDB says: A wrongfully expelled Harvard undergrad moves to London, where he is introduced to the violent underworld of football hooliganism.

So I'm renting all the HD movies I can from Blockbuster to utilize this Xbox360 add on and the movie selection for the format is hit-and-miss. Here are the two most recent.

Pitch Black - If you like SciFi and haven't seen this movie, you should. For some reason, I really like Radha Mitchell. And I like that they had a non-conventional ending. 7/10

Chronicles of Riddick - If you like SciFi and haven't seen this movie, consider yourself lucky. The first half hour is great but the story gets muddled in the middle and then reprises Dune at the end. And did you know that you can withstand 700 degree temperatures if you just stand in the shade? Horrible. - 5/10

I wasn't expecting much since word of mouth has been pretty poor.

I thought it funny and entertaining in a hokey way.

There must have been 10,000 snakes on that plane and many looked rubber, which made it even funnier.

That's funny. I said the same thing about 20 pages back when the subject of GSH first came up. Haven't seen GSH, but there's absolutely no way its better than The Football Factory with Frodo as a hooligan. Only wish it wasn't about Chelsea fans, as I loathe the team. Good movie though.

This review pretty much nails it.JUST finished watching this. I've never laughed so hard at so much death and mayhem as I did while watching this movie. Pick a body part. Any body part. Somone in this movie got bit there, I guarantee it. Hokey describes this one very well, yet I think it went by VERY quickly and I actually thought it was pretty good. Well, maybe not GOOD, but certainly entertaining.

Craig isn't has good-looking as some of the previous Bonds, but he is certainly one of the best actors to ever play the role.

I always liked to indulge in some Mickey D's occasionally even though I knew just how bad it was for me. After watching this movie, my cravings for greasy fast food decreased significantly. Good movie, informative and pretty humorous at times if I recall correctly.

I watched Beerfest again, and it was funnier the second time. If you like funny / stupid movies like old school this is a must see. I bump it up to 8/10

To defend the ending of the departed without spoilers: I think it was gutsy to end the film that way. Most films don't have the courage to end a film wiith such a dire consequence for the protagonist. As for the rat that no one seemed to like, Scorsese has a sense of humor. And the total ham-fisted metaphor was clearly meant to be funny.
