Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.....First time seeing it. Can't deny the presence or compatibility of Redford and Newman, but nothing happens....and that's something I notice more in late 60's/70's movies. I don't know, was the "journey more important than the destination" in the films of yesteryear? Were people more interested in the actor and seeing him perform the craft than a plot driven story? I certainly don't mind it, but it's something I think I picked up on.

Alright, I'll admit I'm biased as this is one of my three favorite movies of all time (with their other tandem, The Sting, also on the list). That said...wth do you mean "nothing happens"? Can't possibly understand how you can honestly say that with a straight face. I know you're not fishing but completely shuked here. They rob trains. They run from a posse. They flee to another country. They leave the life of crime. They're lured back in. Nothing happens in Star Wars. Absentee father comes back into the kid's life and wants him to join the family business. What happens in Titanic? A boat sinks. People die. Rocky? A boxer boxes. Rear Window? Some cripple sits in a chair and watches life from his window. Batman? Dude with issues from childhood plays dress up at night. Big Lebowski? Fat man goes shopping for a rug.

Killer Joe, what a crazy movie. Still not sure if i actually enjoyed it especially that ending but it was very different then any other movie I have seen in ages.

This one has seemingly pushed people strongly into the love it or hate it category. Glad more folks are giving it a go. I loved the movie but absolutely despised all the characters.

The movie comes across as very disjointed; to the point where any action or event comes across as an afterthought. In a real sense there isn't even much of a coherent story. There didn't seem to be any growth in the characters; they didn't seem to be wanting anything or aspiring to anything. A lot of movie seemed a bit extraneous, inlcuing; (as mush as I liked it) the fight for the leader of The Hole In the Wall Gang, the bicycle montage, the encounter with the "friendly" sherrif, the traveling to Boliva montage, the bank robbing montage in Boliva and (even though I liked it) the entire situation with Strother Martin.I'd always heard and seen that it was an "all time" for a lot of people and critics.....and I just didn't see that. Why do you like it so much?

They absolutely wanted to be something. Rich. Is that not an aspiration many of us have? I completely and totally interpreted the scenes differently from you. To me, the scenes didn't simply happen. The fight for leader, the bicycle montage (okay, the montage itself wasn't needed but it showed the love). They went to Bolivia to escape. I can understand if you didn't like the movie. Tastes differ. But to say nothing happened? Mind is completely boggled. If you go down that road, can't you say the same for any movie?

I didn't say I didn't like it. There were some good moments...nice cinematography....and you can't deny Newman and Redford. I was born a decade+ after the movie came out. And I didn't see it until my teens. It was an old movie when I watched it, and while I wasn't quite like Andy's take on older movies, it wasn't an area I was overly enthusiastic toward.People don't always grow in life. Sometimes they are what they are. They're charming crooks, but they're still crooks. They rob trains because it's easy. It becomes less easy so they run for their lives. Why Bolivia? No real reason, Butch simply thinks the money will be easy. Men have been moving to countries with dreams of easy riches since civilization began.I can agree with it being more of a journey and not destination movie, but isn't that what life is all about?

True enough... I'm one to watch movies that I'm more negative to more than once. I hated Heat when I saw it in the theater....Hated it. Now, to me it's one of those perfect movies. I'll be sure to check Butch and Sundance out again.

I watched this about a month ago and felt the same way about it. There was a point where I contemplated not proceeding, but I decided to finish it. I had heard some good things about it, but I put it teetering the line of "worth watching" status.

Argo best cast win at SAG awards is a bit strange when you see all the nominees in the individual awards. Affleck's lead performance the weakest part of a good movie.

was barely a twist, everyone I know saw that Robin thing coming a mile before it was revealed. I doubt Nolan was setting up anything as he is done with Batman and i guess the new Director will reboot the franchise like they did with Spiderman and are doing with Superman now

Oh THAT twist... I loved it.. In fact....I hadn't watched since the theater launch until this past weekend and forgot THAT twist until right up to the final fight.. and thought how did I forget THAT?

watched Wanted: Dead or Alive for the first time in over 15 years and have to say it is still as good as I remembered. One of the best endings and ending lines in a movie

Although he didn't have a lot of lines, kinda of surprised Gene Simmons didn't get more acting roles in movies after that as I thought he did pretty well for who he is.

I can see why this film was so beloved by critics. It features all the acting, direction, and cinematography you'd want in a good movie. But I thought it was kind of ugly and pointless. I'd recommend you see it. You'll probably like it more than I did.

Avengers: Might have been expecting a little too much. It wasn't bad but it definitely doesn't rank up there with the top comic book movies. A little long but I'm not really sure they could have shortened anything; the story was already pretty thin. Hawkeye might be the worst superhero ever. 3/5

Agreed. It was entertaining but I think it made so much money because of the perfect storm it walked in to. Not much else to knock it from the box office, a wide range of lead-up films to build the audience. But I thought both Iron Man's were better on their own, thought Thor was as good, and had little use for Captain America.

That's probably why I liked it. I like sci-fi. Horror not nearly as much.

I think if Prometheus had been 90% sci fi / 10% horror, it could have been fantastic. The effects and art direction were stunning. But I just was so bored by the horror elements.

Avengers: Might have been expecting a little too much. It wasn't bad but it definitely doesn't rank up there with the top comic book movies. A little long but I'm not really sure they could have shortened anything; the story was already pretty thin. Hawkeye might be the worst superhero ever. 3/5

Agreed. It was entertaining but I think it made so much money because of the perfect storm it walked in to. Not much else to knock it from the box office, a wide range of lead-up films to build the audience. But I thought both Iron Man's were better on their own, thought Thor was as good, and had little use for Captain America.

I watched Thor over the holidays as I wanted to see it before Avengers, and ended up watching Avengers the next day. In the grand scheme of comic book/superhero movies, I liked Thor a good bit, possibly most of all because it felt like it took itself less seriously than the rest of the genre for the most part. As for Avengers, why wouldnt it rank up with the best of the bunch? Once again for the genre, I loved it. My biggest complaint with Thor would probably be that I found Loki, or at least the actor playing him, pretty bad and not believable at all (this is the guy keeping Thor off the throne?!). So seeing him as the primary villain in Avengers was disappointing, and I think made for a weaker plot with less backstory (and is my biggest complaint), but using Loki/Thor's realm made for a great final half hour and the best action I recall from any of these movies.Now I consider Nolan's Batman films to be on a whole other level than the rest of the genre so I wont bother ranking them, but if I were to rank the rest of the comic book movies off the top of my head Id say something like:

Finally saw Prometheus.

I don't see what all the fuss was about. I liked it even though it fell apart a little bit at the end. I guess I didn't go in with as high of expectations since I had already heard the bad press.

This movie seemed very polarizing. My main beef was I was a lot more interested in the sci fi than the horror.

That's probably why I liked it. I like sci-fi. Horror not nearly as much.

I think if Prometheus had been 90% sci fi / 10% horror, it could have been fantastic. The effects and art direction were stunning. But I just was so bored by the horror elements.

Isnt that basically what it was?

I thought the horror was fine, and the relatively smaller amount of it created a higher degree of suspense throughout basically the entire film.

If you're excluding Nolan's Batman, then it is definitely higher up. I didn't like Hawkeye or Black Widow. Iron Man was just more of the same. I didn't like the Captain America movie very much and really don't find his old fashion, prime and proper shtick entertaining.

So that leaves Hulk, who was great, Loki who I liked (although I was expecting some more humor from him) and Thor, who was pretty good.

Maybe I was just expecting too much. I'd put it behind the a couple of the X-Men movies (I don't remember which is which), Iron Man and Spider Man 2.

Was is suspenseful? Yes. I am just getting bored with horror cliches.

Damn, page 5? Now I feel even more guilty for not posting what I have been watching and keeping up with the banter.

I go in streaks, so after watching a few new releases that I didn't love - Ted was Ok, Taken 2 was meh, and liked but didn't love Looper, etc... I decided to slowly try to start going through the Criterion releases. The past couple weeks involved:

Spellbound:

Not my favorite Hitchcock, but even average Hitchcock is better than 80% of most movies. I think it was the script that was grating to me. It centers around a group of psychologists who are into psychoanalysis. However, that seems to be about the only thing they talk, and everybody is busy studying each others dreams throughout the whole movie. Small nitpick, but I did start noticing it and it took away from the experience slightly.

Gimme Shelter:

Fantastic doc about the last couple months of the Rolling Stones' '69 leading up to the concert at Altamont (sp?). Even though you know what's coming there is great tension being built up because of the the way they did the movie mixing songs from a NY show with them watching the events in SF in the editing room. A lot of great stuff in the supplemental material - I was listening a bit to the radio shows that were on there discussing the events, read through the booklet, etc.. Highly recommend this one to everybody who hasn't seen it.
