Watched 28 Weeks Later last night.

It is a decent addition to the horror/zombie genre, but not nearly as good as the first one. For lack of a better description, I just thought the movie was 'ugly'. I guess I didn't like the fact that the kids were involved so much in the movie or that the makers of the movie kept trying to hard to make the dad seem like an uber-zombie or something. Slightly above average for the genre, but I don't think I'd watch it again.

I look at 28 Days/Weeks later like I do Alien/Aliens. The first movie is a horror film and the second is action flick. Hard to really compare the two since they're different genres.

Except in the latters case the sequel is better than the original.

I agree with the minister here. Alien is such a dramatically different movie than Aliens it is really unfair to compare them. Aliens is a great action movie and is more humorous and engaging (as well as being one of the most quotable movies ever) but Alien is one of the most terrifying movies I have ever seen. Alien is a straight laced horror drama with no comic relief (ala Bill Paxton) and it creates a mood that is unparalleled in the genre.Plus you have Ridley Scott v James Cameron.

I hesitate to make a choice as to which was the better film. It appears IMDB is deadlocked too, both get an 8.5 on over 165,000 votes.

Alien/Aliens is one of the rare pair of movies that are both awesome. There are only two franchises I can come up with that are similar in greatness: Toy Story trilogy and Godfather I / Godfather II.

underrated british 60's sci fi film 7/10 sat afternoon (3:15 PST) on TCM - five million years to earth...

saw blind side recently... really liked it... inspiring story, good family film...

music-related...

stones in exile - good, though short doc about circumstances surrounding stones moving to france and recording exile on main street (maybe their best album, consensus top 2-3)... suffers from not a lot/any musical performances... lot of stills with narration...

gimme shelter - classic altamont, death of the 60's post-mortem... more footage than i recalled from madison square garden concert... highly recommended (if you like stones)...

started doors doc when people are strange (?)... interesting so far... some not previously viewed footage from the vaults... narrated by johnny depp...

u2 360 at rose bowl... awesome staging, great performances and sound, easily my favorite u2 concert video...

just finished season one of arrested development on computer...

next up...

got another football move (the express) about the late syracuse great, ernie davis...

and the elmore leonard noir with roy scheider - 52 pickup...

I watched Alien 3 about a year ago and found it more entertaining than I remembered. Still hated the ending.

I will never ever watch Resurrection again. Horrible.

Id like to revisist Alien 3, as I didnt like it when I saw it, but part of that I think was due to it just not being near as good as the first 2.

It definitely suffered by comparison.I was entertained on some level by all four (4 is definitely more of a cartoon/video game than film).

Well done, for sure. But it felt like Fincher was trying to make an important film more than an interesting one.

- 28 Weeks Later is a good movie. It can't beat Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson but not much can. It was still very well done and I'm happy they are considering a third installment.

- I thought World's Greatest Dad was ok, but from that (and that alone) Bobcat Goldwaithe is not even close to the level of a PT Anderson, Wes Anderson or Terrence Malick who do not conform and continue to make fantastic works that are both art and film. That being said Goldwaithe is trying to tackle making a movie based on the Kinks "Schoolboys in Disgrace" album, which I find fascinating and look forward to.

Barton Fink is great. Hudsucker Proxy and Burn After Reading were not.

I watched The Road, Pirate Radio, and The Soloist recently. Road was good but the book is definitely better. Pirate Radio is very good. Soloist was pretty meh, although it's a somewhat interesting story.

I never felt the desolation or hopelessness in the movie that I felt reading the book. But Viggo was good as ever and the kid was very believable

It's hard for me to say since I read the book first and it did such an incredible job of painting the most hopeless post-apocalyptic imaginable.I did enjoy the movie and thought it kept pretty true to the book.

I agree with the Alien movies being quite different. but don't agree that 28 Weeks is an action movie - just a different 'type' of horror movie. I liked the first one a lot more because it was creepier - probably because there were so many less people living. This movie it just felt like they said "let's just get a ####load of people back on the island so we can kill all of them", and I thought it took away from the mood the first one was able to get across.

Not even close to the first one. Not bad....but like you I have no desire to watch it again and also felt it added nothing to the first story.

I think it started to do an OK job of setting up what happened during the 28 weeks and having a small part of England safe while other parts were dangerous. I thought it was good for about 30 mins - until they started getting infected again. Also - it's kinda silly that the kids were able to basically just walk out of there.

The Ring was fantastic. People hated Point of No Return, but I enjoyed it. The Departed was excellent, although some don't like that as much as I do.

Brooklyn's Finest

Nothing new in this police drama, filled with cliches and stereotypes in situations you've seen again and again. But the first rate acting, in particular Cheadle and Hawke lift this above your typical genre movie. I enjoyed it much more than it deserved. THe multiple cast members from The Wire also helped. If the script/story had presented an iota of originality or freshness, it may have been oscar-worthy. But as made, its more of a guilty pleasure than anything else. Still, I enjoyed it a lot.

Based on this and what I originally thought, I think this movie will be somewhere in the Pride & Glory ballpark as a cop movie for me. One that isnt exactly original, but has actors I like and solid performances that put it a few cuts above similar movies. Hope to see this soon.

Pan's Labyrinth

I've been meaning to see this for years. But since the wife and I usually watch movies together, she's been too scared to see it. Wow. What a stunning accomplishment. I loved it. My only beef was the extreme violence. I don't think the graphic gore contributed to the story. Still, what a fantastic movie. The antagonist is certainly one of the most evil in movie history, and I think the lead child actor was excellent. I could go on and on, but you've all heard the accolades before. Huge thumbs up.

Watching this movie, I couldn't help but think of some of the trash that has won best picture Oscars over the last few years. Crash, Chicago, Million Dollar Baby, Titanic, The English Patient, Forrest Gump, Driving Miss Daisy, Rain Man...these movies aren't even in the same universe as Pan's Labyrinth.

I've been meaning to see this for years. But since the wife and I usually watch movies together, she's been too scared to see it. Wow. What a stunning accomplishment. I loved it. My only beef was the extreme violence. I don't think the graphic gore contributed to the story. Still, what a fantastic movie. The antagonist is certainly one of the most evil in movie history, and I think the lead child actor was excellent. I could go on and on, but you've all heard the accolades before. Huge thumbs up.

Watching this movie, I couldn't help but think of some of the trash that has won best picture Oscars over the last few years. Crash, Chicago, Million Dollar Baby, Titanic, The English Patient, Forrest Gump, Driving Miss Daisy, Rain Man...these movies aren't even in the same universe as Pan's Labyrinth.

I know I'm a broken record on this, but I still think The Orphanage is better (although Pan's really is great).
