I didn't hate it. But I thought it was easily forgettable.Am I the only person that absolutely hated Book of Eli?
Love this movie. While the 3yo napped, I popped in The Damned United today.
Didn't know anything about the guy or the story, but really liked the movie. Sheen is a hell of an actor - I recognized from Frost/Nixon and he was great in that as well. Looked up his other movies, and didn't know he was Lucian from the Underworld movies too. Quite the mix of movies on his resume. Anyway - agree with others around here that it was one of the better movies of last year.
The Queen isn't great, but it's worth seeing. Sheen is excellent in the HBO-made Bill Clinton/Tony Blair movie called The Special Relationship.Good to know - I read that it was a fictionalized account, so I am curious how many liberties they took while telling the story. Still haven't seen The Queen, but heard multiple times that he was great in that too.I lived through that time and it was an extremely realistic story. Sheen was Brian Clough and Colm Meaney captured Don Revie well. Sheen is great as Tony Blair in The Queen too. While the 3yo napped, I popped in The Damned United today.

Finally saw this. What a crap convention. The bolded sums up my feelings as well. "Oh jeez...another 'incident'. Can we get to the part where they both hopefully die?"Saw Paranormal Activity a couple of weeks ago.
Big fan of the genre and the style...watched it alone in a dark apartment...great mood and setting for a scary flick.
What a friggin' letdown. Man, this movie really stunk. A couple of tense scenes, but the overall experience consisted of me wanting to deliver alternating beatings to the two characters.
Dude, you're just pretending to like that movie so you'll look cool. You guys just didn't "get" The Book of Eli.![]()

I'm not surprised that someone wouldn't like this movie. But I am surprised to hear that a Coen fan doesn't like this movie. A Serious Man was 100% Coen.Just saw A Serious Man and this is easily the biggest piece of crap I've seen in a while.
Maybe my expectations were too high since it was the Coen Brothers.
A wimpy schmuck lead, obnoxious kids, #####y wife, deadbeat brother and an abrupt ending.
I'm shocked it was this bad.![]()
Personally I find that Coen brothers movies get better after repeat viewings. It's been awhile, and it's difficult for me to imagine I ever felt this way but I am pretty sure I didn't really like The Big Lebowski the first time I saw it.I think Raising Arizona, and Fargo are the only ones of their films that I truly enjoyed on first viewing.I'm not surprised that someone wouldn't like this movie. Had the same oh ####! reaction when I first saw it too.I just didn't see the humor in this one. It was just a miserable, boring ride.I almost turned it off early and was sorry that I didn't.jdoggydogg said:I'm not surprised that someone wouldn't like this movie. Perhaps. I enjoy the metaphors in A Serious Man. What does the end mean? What does the beginning mean?Chaka said:Personally I find that Coen brothers movies get better after repeat viewings. Almost positive he did this on purpose, especially with the two "Royale with Cheese" scenes. I had a lot of fun with this film. Best part is when he runs up the stairwell wasting the Asian drug cartel. Dude asks "how many do you think are left?", Travolta's answer: "According the last census? About a billion."Watched these in the last few says....
The Informant - as much as I like Damon and Soderburgh I just couldn't get in to it. Tried watching it for a second time and gave up.
Brooklyn's Finest - I thought this was EXCELLENT. No idea why it got poor reviews. It doesn't have a huge story arc and they probably could have done a little more with the missing girl angle but I thought Snipes, Cheadle, Gere, and Hawk all did EXCEPTIONAL jobs with their roles. Anyone that likes cop drama or "city" films would like this in my opinion.
From Paris with Love - grinding through this one now. It's okay. Travolta has become a parody of himself. He even says "MF'er" the same way in this movie as he has in his last three movies.

is right. You don't like a movie that makes you laugh many times? That's a winner in my book.I don't have to like any one character to like a movie. If I absolutely hate everyone in a movie, that could be difficult to enjoy. I agree that no one is likable in A Serious Man. I just like the questions it raises.I just didn't see the humor in this one. It was just a miserable, boring ride.I almost turned it off early and was sorry that I didn't.jdoggydogg said:I'm not surprised that someone wouldn't like this movie. I didn't like Burn After Reading that much but I certainly laughed many times watching it.
It didn't help that there was no one to like in Serious Man.
I really need to take notes while I am watching movies. By the end of the movie I was spent, and just had the general "now that was ####ed up" feeling. However, I remember at the beginning of the movie thinking that there were some impressive shots in the movie and feeling that it was well filmed. Then you have the squid, the 'twist', etc.. and that what you are thinking about at the end. I'll probably watch it one more time for a rating, but that's about it. Very glad I finally got around to seeing it though.Tonight's fare was Oldboy .

what exactly? The 'twist', the violence, just the overall movie?I thought Oldboy sucked![]()
I was exaggerating a little there, but I remember watching it around when it came out on DVD after all the positive reviews and left feeling like a just watched a movie with cool action scenes and cinematography and that was about it. I dont remember much about it, so maybe I'll watch it again at some point.what exactly? The 'twist', the violence, just the overall movie?I thought Oldboy sucked![]()
I've seen Three... Extremes and some of his Vengeance series. Honestly, as I get older, my tolerance for extreme cinema is waning.KarmaPolice said:I really need to take notes while I am watching movies. Anybody watch the director's other movies?
The Man From Earth
As compelling as a campfire tale can get. Entire film takes place with intellectuals in a cabin being intellectual around a fire. It gets a little overboard by the end, but I was hooked by then. Good science fiction without any special effects, robots, aliens, or even action scenes.
3.5/5
I really enjoyed this.Just saw this recently.I wanted to like it. The best thing I can say about it is there were a couple chuckles and some nice boobies.I know it's hard to believe with a title as cool as Hot Tub Time Machine, but the movie was all sorts of bad. I laughed a couple times at the beginning, but that's about it.
Me too. Clever, thoughtful and entertaining. Had one part that was an obviousThe Man From Earth

I really enjoyed this film. Five hours was not a problem for me and I would gladly watch it again.I watched Red Cliff the other day. Only saw Part 1 which was about 2.5 hours long, and I have Part 2 arriving from Netflix tomorrow. Now that's a movie.
It went by very quickly. I really enjoyed the role played by Takeshi Kaneshiro (as Zhuge Liang). And Tony Leung is always good.I really enjoyed this film. Kaneshiro and Leung were both excellent.I found the strategy discussions to be fascinating, particularly how they switched between the two opposing armies for the point and counter point so you could understand where the strategic mistakes were made before the battles were even fought. I was also blown away when they showed the implementation of The Tortoise strategy. It went by very quickly. I really enjoyed the role played by Takeshi Kaneshiro (as Zhuge Liang).
