I cant believe how much I enjoyed Kick ###. I thought it looked so dumb. And everyone I tell to watch it laughs and thinks Im kidding. I loved it. Watched it twice. Nicolas Cage was horrible in it but thats my only complaint. Any thread on here discussing the movie? The best part of the movie was the soundtrack. One of the best movie soundtracks since Kill Bill IMO. Made the movie that much better. And of course Hit Girl was ####in awesome.
I enjoyed Kick ### too. Very entertaining and funny. Unlike you though, I enjoyed Nick Cages work in it (starting with his opening scene, I'll stop as i don't want to throw in spoilers) and then later in the movie when he was talking like (no spoiler) someone. Had me laughing alot. Good flick and definetly worth the time.

Dear John-Wife's pick. She'd heard all kinds of great things about the movie. It had an army guy, so I was in. It sucked. Bad acting. Bad character development. Even Mrs TRF didn't like it.

The Devil's Rejects

Not a fan of "torture porn" horror movies, but if one of them had to work, this one did. Rob Zombie just has an uncanny feel for a good horror flick. His camera work is great, and choice of music couldn't have been better. Best horror film I've seen in a long time, about a million times better than House of 1000 Corpses. Guess I'll have to give the Halloween remakes a chance. Loses half a point for being vile, disgusting trash; but it's great vile, disgusting trash.

4.5/5
Don't bother with the 2nd one, but maybe try out the first. You might also knock that one down b/c it's vile an disgusting too, but thought it was a decent horror flick.

Drag Me To Hell

I've read some fairly negative reviews of this movie, and I don't get it. I thought it was really fun. I can't remember the last new horror movie I enjoyed. And as a bonus, this movie is very funny at times.
:goodposting:
I just thought it was too toned down. Could have used an R rating. It was fun, but I guess I have just been looking for less humor and more scary from the horror movies lately, and have been disappointed because of it.
I concur.

The Insider

Never was too big of a fan of Michael Mann's camera style. For every interesting shot he has, it seems like it his surrounded by 5 jarring ones. Interior scenes were especially absurd, he brings a sense of urgency to several scenes that don't really need it. Crowe turns in a dynamite performance and Pacino works as a good foil to show off how good he is. I just didn't find it to be a great film.

Loved this movie. I think it's in between good and great.
The Player

The Hollywood insight and satire was totally money, the murder mystery part of it sucked. Fun to see so many Hollywood players play along and while I've never been a huge Altman fan either, he brings this together seamlessly. Bruce Willis cameo was great.

Love this movie. Saw it in the theater when it was first released. I liked it so much, I watched The Bicycle Thief as a result.

Do not like this movie. I agree that Zombie "gets" horror movies. But as is the case with most modern horror films, Zombie is content to use gore and depravity in lieu of real suspense. Far too many horror movies confuse disgust with fear, and this movie is no exception.

sorry. thats sounds very similar but its not it. Apparently it was created for the original score by John Murphy and its called The Corrider. And I dont listen to rock so sorry didnt know that song

Repo Men. Dreary movie with gaping plot holes. Seemed like one of those 'going through the motions for a paycheck' flicks. Instantly forgettable.

Ong Bak 2. Contained some of the most amazing martial arts sequences I've ever seen. Standard boiler plate 'child of murdered parents out for revenge' plots but it worked it this movie. Big fan.

4.5/5 (The only disappointing thing was finding out there was a Ong Bak 3 which finished the story, being pysched to see it and going to .imdb to find out when it's available, then reading that everyone who has seen it says it sucks. Oh well.)

An older guy came into work today raving about a movie, but I can't remember the title. He says Jamie Foxx was in it and played either an attorney general or an assistant attorney general. A family gets murdered, except the father somehow survives. There are a bunch of twists in it, and the movie sounds like something I'd love, but I can't remember the title. I'm pretty sure the title was a 3 or 4 word phrase. Can anyone help me out here?

I had a hard time placing DR in the horror genre. Came off more as a Natural Born Killers to me. I liked the movie myself despite the annoying slo-mo ending.

Yep, I thought it was a pretty good movie. A bit of an impossible premise but it kept me thinking throughout the movie and had a fair share of action. I would definitely recommend a watch.

Watched Following on Netflix instant last night. It's one of Christopher Nolan's early efforts.

Really good budget flick, IMO, full of Nolan quirks like fractured narrative, high suspense, near omniscient villains. Check it out.

Me too!Fantastic movie. In any other year, it should have won Best Picture. It wasn't even nominated, which is criminal, but tough to be disappointed when Unforgiven wins instead.

Sure. Although 1992 was a pretty decent year for movies:Reservoir Dogs

Glengarry Glen Ross

The Crying Game

A Few Good Men

Howard's End

The Last of the Mohicans

Malcolm X

My Cousin Vinny

Of Mice and Men

Unforgiven

One False Move

Husbands and Wives

…and of course, my favorite: Army of Darkness.

Good reality check jdogg. I would have nominated: Unforgiven, Reservoir Dogs, Malcolm X, Last of the Mohicans and The Player. (haven't seen Army of Darkness yet, sad to say) Some of the others were very good, but The Player is exceptional.

Sure. The Player is excellent. If you are a fan of horror / horror-comedy, you have to see Army of Darkness. Hilarious.

Unforgiven, Malcolm X, and The Player were all on my squad during the recent Movie Draft.

I like Glengarry more but The Player was definitely a top-5 movie that year.

I was actually watching it home alone Sunday afternoon and followed through on the urge to pause it a couple times and clean some random portions of the house that Ms Hooter already keeps spotlessly clean.Agree with KP that it is in the same class as NBK, both great films.

Wolfman

Agree with Jamny that the wolf effects could have been a lot worse, I liked them too. This movie was pretty lame-o though. Nearly every action scene was disappointing. The homage it was paying to the original didn't quite work, but they made a genuine effort. Not much going for it besides a couple overacted scenes by Benico and Hopkins that I enjoyed.

2.5/5

A Town Called Panic

Bizarre. Absurd. More like a stream of consciousness than a plot. It's an adult stop motion film about Horse, Cowboy, and Indian in french. Horse is the smartest and calmest one, while Cowboy and Indian act kind of like the Saddam caricature on South Park. Entertaining, especially under the influence of drugs, but most certainty weird. You would have a hard time explaining what you were watching if anyone else walked in the room.

4/5

Saint John of Las Vegas

Another retelling of Dante's Inferno, they should have worked a little harder in making this version coherent though. Always good to see Buscemi on screen. Sarah Silverman is wasted. Conrad needs to go back to Weeds. You're not missing anything here.

2/5

Watched this one again last night, and it still works for me. I don't watch a ton of romance movies, but seems like the genre is saturated with movies were romance = having to stay with somebody for life and have babies. Refreshing when you see a movie about people who connect for one night, and that's basically the end of it. Some parts drag a little, but for the most part I like the dialogue and a lot of the stories/commentaries on life they had. I believe this made it in my top 100 movies, and easily one of my favorites of the genre.

I agree with jdogg that NBK is more satire, but while I was watching Devil's Rejects I just felt it was more like that than a horror movie.

I think one of the reasons I like Zombie's movies is because of that feeling. He shows horrible things in a horrible way, but unlike the Hostel/Saw movies I never felt like it was gore just to have gore. I think when you are watching a movie you should have a visceral response to that violence otherwise it's just being washed over. I have the same feeling after watching the original TCM, and I think that's why that's my favorite horror movie. It hits you in the gut and gets a reaction from you.

For those that like the Player- The Big Picture is worth seeing, more comedic and probably not as good or "important" overall movie (film people always rave about that opening crane shot in The Player). Martin Short is genius.

Wasn't aware of this. Guest and the cast make it look pretty promising. Agree that Short is genius. Queued up. Thanks for the rec!

i don't know that "the player" is important, per se. it's just a convergence of so really talented people. altman, the respected outsider, working with a great cast and script (buck henry is rumored to have punched up the script). it's a dream project for most of those involved and it's one of altman's better films. the opening crane shot is a tip of the cap to the crane shot in "touch of evil" and does it one better.

Watched After Hours for the first time last night. Hard to believe that Scorsese of all people was involved in laying the groundwork on the kind of running gag that made Ben Stiller famous. Love the opening and closing camera shots. Loved how dark it was. Great film.

4.5/5
Watched this a couple of weeks ago as well. I'd seen it probably 20 years ago or whatever. Fun movie to watch. There's a line where Teri Garr puts a Monkees record on and asks Dunn "Do you like the Monkees?" For some reason that line cracks me up.
Speaking of Teri Garr I just watched Young Frankenstein. Man did she not age well.
Yeah, but reason 1001 why Young Frankenstein is great is that it captured her at her absolute hottest moment in life. Like some kind of hotness time capsule. Also one of the reasons why I like Rocky Horror so much. Susan Sarandan has never nor will ever look that good again.

 Just watched Diva again recently- I dont' think any move has had a more profound effect on me (aesthetically more than anything else) than this one, but predominantly because I saw it in theaters when I was 13. still love the movie- but I can recognize the flaws more readily (the horrible, horrible acting by the opera singer, for one).

well, yes, but she just one in a long line of hot french actresses.
Probably at her hottest in Europa Europa (one of my favorite WW2 movies)... but also very young. Also looking good in Killing Zoe.I sat across from her in a restaurant a few years' back... very NOT hot in person.
she hasn't aged as well as i would have like, which is so unlike french actresses, but she was something for a time. "killing zoe" is a pretty good flick. i had such high hopes for roger avary...

IIRC, I saw her during a period when she still looked good on film- just didn't look so great on the day in person.gets me thinking- of all the celeb/hot-wimmens I've seen in person, who's the hottest.... I'll jump to Raquel Welch- and she was probably in her 60s- and Elle McPherson (dressed in skin-tight SuperGirl outfit for Halloween in the early 90s... :boner: ). and now I'm laughing rememering Otis' Sara Jessica Parker love phase...

Oh yeah... I saw that one too. Remember the big hubabaloo because she had to gain 30 pounds for it... and still looked like a skinny marink.btw- I can't begin to tell you how freaking amazing she looked that halloween. I got to meet her briefly that night and literally couldn't breath for a full minute or two afterwards.

Yeah, when I first saw this a few years ago I think I watched it because nothing else was on. Was surprisingly, hell, alarmingly good I thought. Watched 1000 Corpses after it, didnt think it was near as good.

A family gets murdered, except the father somehow survives. There are a bunch of twists in it, and the movie sounds like something I'd love, but I can't remember the title. I'm pretty sure the title was a 3 or 4 word phrase. Can anyone help me out here?
jamie foxx + gerard butler + 25% RT rating = worst movie of any night.good luck with that, guy.
When Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler make good choices on the movies theyre in, I almost always find them to be entertaining or better. While LAC wasnt great, its closer to the 7.2/10 on IMDB than the 25% on RT and was certainly worth watching
