I havent seen Before Sunrise, but Killing Zoe would be hands down my favorite movie Ive ever seen her in. Love that movie.

I don't need my action movies to plausible, what I need is for the star to be a total bad ###. LAC certainly worked for me, despite the "yeah right" moments. Watch the explosions and violence, don't reflect on them.

I guess being a married 34 year old with a 4 year old son really made me connect with this movie and Ethan's character this time around. I would think this is a movie that would hit home with anybody who say every once in a while "what if". I think more people than not have that one person that might have gotten away or we wonder what would happen if you crossed paths with them again, etc..

Can't say enough good things about either of these movies. Tells a lot when a movie is so interesting even though it is 90mins of following 2 people around while they talk.

Movie itself was awesome. Deviated from the comic in a few significant ways but it didn't bother me. Obviously left it open for a sequel. If they make one, it should be called Hit Girl. She might be the coolest little girl in the entire universe.

I couldn't get through it the one time I rented it (IIRC, more about being busy and distracted than disliking it)... if I ever get time again- I'll give it another go.I will say, my favorite 90 minutes of 2 people talking is My Dinner With Andre... it even avoids the "action" of walking around- the camera and you are the third party at their dinner. Brilliantly written (?) performed (?) and directed.

wallace shawn + louis malle = $$$the wife has taken my baby boy this week to California to visit her family. last night was the first time i've had the place to myself in a about a year. what do i watch? kevin bacon playing a recovering pedophile in "the woodsman". some nice performances - mos def and benjamin bratt, most notably and surprisingly - but it's a film hamstrung by a really weak script. bacon tries to give a complex character but his strength is not playing vulnerable characters (see "digging to china"). kyra sedgwick is a solid actor but miscast in the role of love interest.

Incredibly sad stop-motion for adults. It's about two sad people who become penpals. One's a young girl who lives in Australia and the other a middle aged Jewish man who lives in New York. The color scheme is dreary to heighten the sadness. Lots of bad stuff happens, but there are some laughs and good stuff too. It's actually pretty amusing in a dark sort of way.

Kids probably wouldn't understand it and would be depressed if they somehow did.

Definitely worth watching.

Also, the credits show Philip Seymour Hoffman as the voice of Max, Eric Bana as the Mary's husband (forget his name), and Toni Collette as Mary. I can't imagine this is correct though, since the voices sounded nothing like those actors.

Saw this a while ago, it's a really cool claymation movie. I thought it was brilliantly made, and a very enjoyable watch despite how dark it is. I think the fact that I had never heard of the movie and had little/no expectations is a reason I enjoyed it so much. The film starts off with more childish humor, but as the film goes it gets darker and darker. Usually I don't enjoy dark comedies but for some reason I liked this one a lot. After watching it I was surprised it wasn't nominated for an oscar under the animated film category. I was also really surprised to find out that Philip Seymour Hoffman voiced Max Horowitz. Though I wasn't surprised to find out that Eric Bana was the neighbour of Mary, I knew it was him right away.

Didn't Zombie remake Halloween a couple of years back? A friend brought it over one night and we all watched it on the big screen. It was pretty good - much better than I expected.The Player has always been a movie I really enjoyed and like to watch when it is on. I don't think it gets as much pub as it should. This moview really introduced me to Tim Robbins and he soon became one of my favorite actors until he made Arlington Road. He is still a very solid and intense actor. Plus he got to bang Susan Sarandan - not that she is unbelievably beautiful mind you but I have always found her red hair and off beat looks very attractive.

Let me start by saying I'm a huge fan of Donnie Darko. It is one of a very select few movies I would rate 10/10 or a "perfect" movie in my book, and its in my personal Top 3. I've seen it easily 50+ times going through college because it still seemed like you could pick up something else from the story. Richard Kelly treated as his love child and never talked about how he saw it in his mind, just let the fans accept it for what it is and come up with their own theories.

S. Darko almost had me fooled into actually enjoying it, until it started toying with themes from the first movie in a totally different manner. Afterwards, I watched the "making of" extra on the DVD and discovered that the director admitted to knowing "very little" about the Donnie Darko universe and also admitted he hadn't even took the time to watch the final cut of it yet. WTF? Then they interviewed the editor who also admitted to knowing nothing about Donnie Darko or even the rationalization of what was going on, he just said he was going for maximum emotional impact with little regard to anything else. It failed miserably. The acting is as wooden as I've ever seen in movie and it seems like the cast is actually convinced they are doing a good job.

The only saving grace was that the writer did make an honest effort as a re-imagining of the story line. He admitted to being very hesitant about the idea when he was approached with it, being a big fan of the first one. The problem is that with the director's disinterest and the actor's lack of any ability, very little of his intentions come across on screen.

They couldn't even come up with a decent soundtrack that they attempt to rely on. Nothing like the Tears for Fears covers from the first. This should not be considered a sequel as it follows almost the exact same plot line of the first movie, except that the role of Donnie Darko is split between two characters, and it branches off immensely in the complete train wreck of a third act.

I remember watching the original for the first time and being completely blown away by the ending. Watching the end of this one and trying to make sense of it made me want to gouge my eyes out. How could you even attempt to build on another man's vision without even a clue of what he was trying for? Kelly has said publicly that he would never work with anyone involved in the production of this film even before it was made.

I could go on forever, but I think I've made the point pretty clear. If you were a causal fan of the first one you may enjoy it as a timewaster, the special effects aren't too bad. But if you either loved or hated the first one, you are going to hate this one.

One star because I actually pity the guy the took the paycheck to write this abortion, he had honest intentions but inevitably end up being loathed by thousands of fans of the original.

Wag The Dog

Hadn't seen it in years since it was released in theaters. I am a sucker for anything written by David Mamet, so of course I like this movie. There are some big flaws, for sure. And there are some scenes that just don't work. But the satire here is even more salient than it was when it first came out.

This reminded me of In the Loop (2009), which in many ways a far superior movie.

There is a rare dvd release going for like $20 on ebay. Jdoggy found it for me last time I was crying about it I think.
