Dark City
Took me a long time to see this, but it was every bit of what it was hyped. Modern Sci-fi doesn't get much better than this. Great concept in a film that pretty much was forgotten after the Matrix was released. William Hurt was better than anything else I've seen him in, which kind of says a lot. Keifer's delivery irritated me, but I could see what he was going for.
4/5
I saw this movie based off the hype from these forums and I was pretty disappointed. It has interesting ideas, but it doesn't feel like a modern sci-fi to me, especially when compared to the Matrix which was supposedly made with the same sets and whatnot. The story was pretty neat but the execution could have been a whole lot better.
One main problem I had was the strangers look stupid. For a 'modern' sci-fi the strangers look like villains you would make in an old school pioneering sci-fi film. Usually I like Connelly a lot, but I didn't like her so much here. She's a performer in a place full of people (can't remember the setting) but she doesn't even acknowledge that there are other people in the room, she's looking at the ground the whole time; felt really unnatural. Rufus Sewell is a meh actor imo, not good enough for a lead role.
