We watched the Hathaway boob vehicle movie. I'm pretty sure there were other things going in that too. I think. So my wife says afterwards- "who the hell would want to watch her getting naked anyway" which I immediately pointed both thumbs inwards and said "I do!". She was incredulous that guys would find her attractive- "jappy and pasty with a big mouth". Me- and big-red-X
I agree with your wife, she isn't hot. Her boobs are nice, but that's about the only compliment I have for her.
hmm.anybody else? she really turns my crank and I just assumed she was an accepted hot-chick. but maybe I just have a thing for the pasty jappy brunettes (loves me some Rachel Weisz).

RED

Add this to The A-Team, The Expendables and The Losers group of action/renegade kick ### group/caper films that all came out at the same time. Enjoyable at times. A bit long at times. Another movie that's a near miss. In this recent genre, I'd put this one behind The A-Team and ahead of The Losers with The Expendables brining up the rear.
Red was fun. Nothing special, but entertaining.

You should tell your wife that kids like candy, too.

watched "tron: legacy" last night on a lark. a big mess, i thought, and a miss too. felt like it was aiming for "blade runner" meets "matrix" but wasn't willing to do any of the hard work required in getting there. nothing felt earned somehow. the cgi version of bridges was damned creepy while bridges himself felt like a caricature of "the dude". michael sheen should be taken out back and shot. olivia wilde, however, is a *hot* POA and seemed to know how to play her role in this very humdrum flick.
Nice-looking, and I liked the soundtrack enough to buy it. But the movie's a mess.

The plot is a little muddy. I think the script could have used some punching up. And yeah, that Bridges CGI was awful.

The Change-Up:

Yes, it's a Freaky Friday/Like Father Like Son/Vice Versa ripoff. Yes, it's pretty damn funny. Really enjoyed this one and would probably say it's the most consistently funny movie of the last year or so. Liked it quite a bit better than Hall Pass, Bridesmaids, etc. and thought overall it was better than Horrible Bosses. Bateman carried this movie, so if you don't find him funny you should look elsewhere for a comedy. Shocked me that you see Leslie Mann's breasts so much in this one as well. 7/10
They weren't really her breasts :kicksrock:

I thought the movie was a mess but the Bridges CGI was eerie good at times. As with most human form CGI it usually breaks down when they speak. Hollywood still has real trouble capturing accurate movement of human mouths for CGI.

I like Weisz. Hathaway does nothing for me. She seems nice but I don't find her attractive.

Hathaway is big eyes and big boobs, IMO. Nothing wrong with that, but if were talking actresses, there are tons more attractive. Im maybe a year or 2 older than Hathaway, and Id rather bang Rachel Weisz who is probably 40.

I liked Cedar Rapids. Nothing special, but just the whole concept itself was funny. Maybe its because it was the first comedy i saw after Bridesmaids, but i laughed. John C Reily was perfect. I thought Helms was good as well. I keeps one in the chamber. 3/5.

Fascinates me what different people find funny. I thought this was one of the worst comedies I've tried to watch lately and don't remember laughing once. I have thought that before, returned to a movie and laughed a bit the second time around, so maybe this is should get a second chance. I think the humor was just too dry for my liking the first time around.

It is definately dry humor. I think half the comedic value lies in the concept itself here with JC bringing the typical obnoxious sales person conventioner role home.

Conan: Terrible. Bad acting. Bad plot. Bad dialogue. Ridiculous use of blood in a weak attempt at gore. The high amount of gratuitous boob scenes couldn't save it. .5/5

pretty but there is something rather boring about her and that's the problem. weisz, however, is a hotbox. there is a spark there between the slight uni-brow.

The Mist

Awful. Marcia Gay Harden was good in her over-the-top role, but the other actors were turrible. The abundance of chuckle inducing decisions, culminating in the ridiculous ending, made it difficult for me to take it seriously at all. The camera work was the nail in the coffin. It seemed Darabont was going for the shaky hand held effect that, when used well, can add a good deal of suspense to this type of movie. But he missed badly. It was too polished to pull off that effect and really just made it look all the more cheesy.

Maybe check out the novella, but avoid this movie at all costs.

1/5

Yeah, as a Stephen King fan, The Mist is not the screen adaptation to skewer. There are many more that suck balls, but the Mist was good. Disagree with you, sports_fan.

This was one of those King short stories I was always drawn back to growing up. I always wondered what kind of ending I would have slapped on it. I loved the one we were given. Also enjoyed the use of puppets over just all CGI. I'm a big fan of creature features and got everything I desired here.

The Bridges CGI in the opening scene is terrible. Avatar got motion capture right.

Not great, but entertaining.

Tower HeistFinancial revenge/heist caper with all-star cast follows a paint by numbers storyline and plot. Predictable results elevated somewhat by the solid cast. Stiller does good work, Tia Leone was very interesting, and Eddie Murphy still has a dose of charisma, but looks like he's been in the joint the last two decades. I liked it okay. 2.85/5 stars
Yeah, I would officially rate it "ok"

It's all in the mouth. It just doesn't open far enough. It's why that Final Fantasy movie a few years back didn't do well either.

Fast Five

First one is a cult classic, but this is an action extravaganza. They probably could have just went ahead and named it something else. Only thing I was dissatisfied with was the conclusion of the Vin Diesel/Rock hand to hand combat fight. The most unrealistic part of the entire series! ;)

Easily the 2nd best of the series, but it is really nothing like the first one. If you've skipped the rest of the sequels or even the original this is worth checking out if you like action movies.

4/5
I haven't seen any of these films but decided to check this out tonight based on all the positive write ups in this thread. I am 1 minute 52 seconds into the film and almost ready to turn it off. I am generally very good at suspending disbelief in the name of entertainment but OH, COME ON!

If it keeps up like this the most entertainment I will get out of it is when I pause it to continue this commentary.

Yeah, they just can't get the mouth right and Jim Cameron's 3D technique is just too expensive (or is it proprietary?).Still there were times where I forgot I was looking at a CGI character.

I know I'm being nit picky here but deflecting a full swing crowbar with your forearm and not flinching? That's the best they could stunt coordinate? Oh, come on indeed. It's gonna be tough for this one to win me over but they have...GOOD LORD this flick is two hours and ten minutes?!?!?

You'll be really impressed with the final chase if you make it that far.

There might be a good movie in here somewhere but so far it is an incredibly lazy production. So many of the problems could have easily been dealt with but they are clearly catering to a non-discerning movie going audience. Yes I was completely expecting that before I hit play. Love the indiscriminate machine gun fire from the cops in one of the most densely populated communities on the planet. L-A-Z-Y.

The good news is that I only have...##### ###### there are still 96 minutes left?!?!?

I think Anne Hathaway is very beautiful, though not quite otherworldly like Rachel Weisz. I'm surprised to hear there's debate on this. But, I'm a chick.

I would bang Rachel in a Stalingrad sewer tunnel like in Enemy at the Gates, but I wouldnt call her otherworldly.I wouldnt call Hathaway beautiful either. If she wasnt a celebrity, she'd be average at best if she did an amateur porno.

What the hell were you expecting out of Fast Five, Chaka?

I don't usually like brainless action movies, but I had a ton of fun with the first and fifth of this series. And no, it is not any more unbelievable than the A-Team was.

THE Final Destination:

I enjoyed the first two quite a bit, but they are not even trying anymore. When you are at the point where you get to somebody dying by getting their entrails ripped out through their ####### via a pool drain, you know your franchise is done. Just a terrible movie all around. Sadly, I've read enough decent reviews for the 5th installment to give that one a try. 3/10

Apollo 18.

I had high hopes for this one - a government conspiracy to cover up a final moon landing filmed documentary-style on the moon. Unfortunately, there was virtually no plot and what there was of it we've seen a million times before. It did have it's moments and the director did a good job of creating the claustrophobic feeling of being there. The actors did a good job I thought and I pulled for them to survive. It just wasn't enough to make up for the paint by numbers story.

The ending was riveting. Their was a great movie in there but the melodrama with Harden was ridiculous. Just lazy writing. Just didn't have to be the way it was.

30 Minute or Less: Really didn't think I'd like this one. Not a fan of Eissenberg or McBride but Ansari killed it. Lots of laughs. One of the better comedies I've seen recently. 3.5/5
:goodposting: It avoided the big fault of most recent comedies of going 1:40min with the last 20 min being lubby/dubby unfunny stuff, as it stayed a tight 1:20min. Some excellent performances by Ansiari, and especially the Mexican dude. The score was also pretty good, particularly the song choice of the car chase scene. One of the best comedies of the last few years imo, it's tomatometer is undeservedly low.

Actually saw this in theaters and I might still have a headache from how bad the 3d was.

I'm with you. Watched this last night as my free Red Box rental. Glad it was free. Ridiculous movie. You not only have to suspend disbelief, you have to take it outside and beat the snot out of it to think this movie even gets within 5 miles of reality. Comic books have more realism.Had some hot chicks in it though, so 1/5

This is not an issue of expectations and I am not really looking for believability. There are plenty of films in a similar vein that I completely enjoy. Fast Five just felt lazy, and kind of insulting, from the opening scene to the very end.I am very good at keeping appropriate expectations and suspending disbelief for movies, but this movie didn't even try. It was the action movie equivalent of an Austin Powers film, no story just a bunch of skits loosely stitched together for the sake of box office receipts. There were some good moments, I liked some of the interactions between the secondary characters and some of the 'stunts' were entertaining (I enjoyed the car going over the cliff and it didn't bother me that the landing would have easily been fatal to any human who attempted it). But for the most part even the 'stunts' and fight coordination were lazily thrown together (that whole train heist was a joke, right?). And forget continuity of any kind, Ninja Assassin had better continuity than this 'film'. The best thing going for it were the production values, clearly the film had a big budget. Despite that this film was a huge mess. I will give it credit for crossing the line from 'awful' to 'so awful it's kind of entertaining' but it took almost 90 minutes to get to that point.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it as much as I did fellas.

Maybe I took it for granted that I had seen all the other crap sequels and the original in all of its completely awesome awfulness. The serious parts of the this movie did make me life. Paul Walker's inability to wipe the #### grin look off his face cracked me up the entire time.

This franchise involves driving cars under semis and through mine shafts. Everything was totally plausible in it's little universe.

I am hooked on Intelligence. Some guys brought it up in the Instant Watch thread as Canada's answer to the Wire. Not quite that good, but it achieves everything it is going for. If you're like me and have a hole inside of you from no Sopranos, Shield, or the Wire, this goes a long ways in filling that.

Don't apologize, I think I am in the minority here.Perhaps I am not articulating this properly but I do not require plausibility to enjoy a film. This film just made little sense from start to finish. Like I said it felt like a bunch of skits loosely stitched together for the sake of box office receipts. I'm not blaming Hollywood for that btw, I would do the same thing if I was in charge of a major studio. I know you don't go to a movie like this for the plot but did anyone actually pay attention to the story? It's a complete nonsensical mess. I mean, it's laughably bad to the point of distraction.Good production values though.
