that movie was so uninspired and unfunny that I thought Adam Sandler might somehow be involved.it's like they took the script from the first movie and turned it into Mad Libs. name a place...Thailand! name a location in a building...elevator! name an animal you would like to steal...monkey!

Even going in expecting the worst, I was surprised at how awful that was. It's like everyone involved decided, "Let's MAKE SURE we never have to make a third one of these."

Keep wanting to watch this again, but really disagree with this part. Liked the movie overall, but could have used a helluva lot more of the bosses and a bit less of the trio of "funny" guys.

Yeah, I am not automatically adverse to sequels. But this was nothing more than a money grab.
 
If autocensor corrects #### in Boots, I'mma gonna be mad.

I was a little disappointed in this- which I guess says I had some expectations for it... but it just lacked humor. Some nice animation, but a bit joyless considering the source.

Not sure what I was expecting, but it was a little more than I got out of this one. I am done with the "ex-criminal's family gets in trouble, causing him to go in for one last heist to save the day" cliche in action movies. This combined with whatever the hell Giovanni Ribisi was doing made this quite the unpleasant experience for me. 4/10

The Innkeepers:

This one had a lot of potential. There were a couple decent jumps/scares in here, and I thought the director was able to build up the tension effectively when he wanted to. However, any momentum the movie had was always killed by the idiot characters in the movie that were driving me nuts. Overall, I thought the pluses outweighed the negatives and made it an above average horror movie, but only slightly so - 5.5/10

One of the worst action films I've seen in awhile.
 
Second viewing of Moonrise Kingdom last night. I freaking love Wes Anderson's world. And I had a weird dream last night obviously rooted in QT's assertion that his movies all exist in the same world that Margot Tenenbaum wrote the play where Suzy was the crow. A lot of great stuff and as always, the sets are eye candy. The kids seemed a little less stiff in the second viewing. More deliberately so, I guess. Some funny lines, scenarios, but again, I really wish Owen would do another screenplay with Wes. He's funnier than Roman Coppola. Either way, great, great film with a lot of heart.

While the movie is nothing special, and very obvious at times, I always appreciate that these kinds of films get made and distributed. Here you have a movie wherein the acting is good, but it's all about the script. This script isn't special, but it's clever. Even though the acting (especially by Foster) is ham-fisted at times, these performers do work here that's fun to watch.

However...

(minor spoiler)

Enough with the ####ing vomit scenes, already. Really. Perhaps there was a time (what...1986?) when a vomit scene was so shocking, using that device was original and cool. Now, it's just revolting and cliche. Never again do I need to see a character throw up.

this was an adaptation of a play. the same playwright that did "ART" a few years back. like that play, i think it tackles ideas that reflect values and concerns that are not intrinsically American. it's an idea play reflecting european - especially french in some ways - thinking. "carnage" is very much an adaptation as much for hollywood as for american audiences.

really creates an atmosphere of desolation, desperation and the economic and cultural decline of a small Texas town. Great acting all around. A little depressing. The line about "not missing...'whatever it is'" kind of sticks with me right now.

I understand this movie is revered. I am glad I saw it, but it is very overrated.

Hard to argue with any order with regards to BB, Mad Men, The Wire and The Soprano's. Do think it's hard to find anyone who wouldn't enjoy Soprano's and BB. Easy recommendation. I usually have to size someone up when recomending Mad Men and especially The Wire.I put BB #1 because it's more accesible then The Wire/Mad Men and it has does so with rating limitations that Soprano's does not have.

They are all so close. I much prefer to rewatch BB and Soprano's. But if I was launching a time capsule into space I might put The Wire and Mad Men due to it's artistic value and depiction of humanity.

Breaking Bad passed The Wire for me last season as the best show ever. I didn't think any show would in the near future. It would take a massive clunker of a Season 5 to drop it back down again.
 
Although, even though I think BB is a better show overall, I haven't seen a single season of any show that is better than Season 4 of The Wire.

The final Season 7 of the Shield might be my favorite season of any series. Season 3 was my favorite of the Wire, Stringer & Avon were the most captivating characters for me.

I absolutely loved it, of course I was tripping balls in the theater. But it was an incredible experience.

My theory is that Liam offed himself that first night he left the mess hall with his rifle. He was able to find peace after killing the pack leader. It didn't matter what direction they were heading because he was going to the epicenter no matter what. The wolves were ridiculous because they were exaggerated on purpose. The wolves were the only thing he really knew and understood so it was what he personified as his foe.
 
City Of God:

Finally got around to watching this one. This was a good film, but I didn't think it was great or the best foreign movie in years like I keep seeing it rated as. I understand that maybe it's just my dislike for gangster/mob movies which this takes the tone of. There were several problems I had that I just couldn't shake - voiceover, lack of buildup of the underlying story of the narrator, and the ending of the movie fell flat for me, mainly:

1. The narrator and his camera. This was a supposedly big story arc in the film, but wasn't really touched on that much until the end of the movie. I was just hoping for more buildup with him and thought we would slowly watch him deal with things - the first 1/2+ of the movie was basically watching heads of the drug trade get eliminated every 10mins.

2. The silly 'Scooby Doo' reveal about the kid who shoots Karate Mike/Knockout Ned (whatever the hell his name was) got a groan out of me. Felt like a Saw reveal - where we were supposed to pick up on this 2sec statement from the kid and care about that.

3. The very end with the kids talking about who they are going to kill off first. Seems like there were always a #2 guy waiting to take over the slums, but now at the end of the movie it's going to be run by a bunch of 10 year olds?
Long story short, I liked the movie, but the last 20mins or so really left a bad taste in my mouth and knocked the movie down in ratings a bit. Regardless, I am glad I got around to watching it. 6.5/10

 
Caught up on some silly horror movies too:

Freddy vs. Jason:

This one is a weird combination of silly and actually quite good for the series. Though it was the sole reason for the movie, the final battle didn't do a whole lot for me, but I was impressed with how they got them together and thought that was quite well done. A must see for fans of these series - I would say it's the 3rd or 4th best Jason movie, and 2nd or 3rd best Freddy movie.

Hatchet:

Decent little slasher movie from the last few years. Kids take a haunted swamp tour and get stalked by madman Victor Crowley (played by the dude who did the late-era Jason). It brought nothing new to the genre, but thought it was a fun throwback to the 80s slasher movies. Now they have the ability to put in a ton of gore that they couldn't do then though - this one is bloody as hell. I would put this one on par with some of the better Friday the 13th movies.

Child's Play:

Been years and years since I have seen this one. Unfortunately it does not hold up very well. There are a couple quite tense scenes that I was impressed with, but that is enveloped in 80s crap for the most part. Thought I remember liking the 2nd one more at the time, so maybe I will revisit that one soon too.
