Millers Crossing - 5/5.....wow.
First time I've seen it after many recommendations. Beautifully shot. Great...succinct dialogue. Awesome charatacters. A few brilliant scenes. The perfect role for Byrne....the others had their moments. A plot that was easy to follow but kept you on our toes. Not sure what else to say!

Saw Snow White and The Huntsman.
Liked it, especially the scenery. Charlize's character dripped evil and made a fine villain.
Kristen Stewart was so-so but not as constipated as she is in the Twilight movies.
Look for some well known actors as the dwarves.
If you like fantasy type films. you'll probably like it.

Because it's Halloween, and because I saw the name Sam Raimi, I watched The Possession this weekend. Found out he produced it, not directed it, and it was all downhill from there. Halfway through, I just wanted it to end. Awful.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World:
A couple chuckles out of this, but really didn't enjoy myself. Something about Keira Knightly that rubs me the wrong way. Kinda like time travel movies (which I love), there is only so many things to do with an apocalypse movie and this one got stale fast for me. 4.5/10
Take This Waltz:
Very good, but a couple scenes kept this one from being great. Michelle Williams is easily one of my favorite actresses, and she really carried this movie. Reminded me a bit of Blue Velvet, but that one benefited from having a much stronger co-lead in Ryan Gosling. I really felt her disconnect from the marriage and the emptiness that she was feeling. Would have been great minus the silly underwater scene and the ending with Sarah Silverman left a bad taste in my mouth. For those interested, you do get to see quite a scene of Sarah and Michelle full frontal in the shower - but I am not sure it was worth the price you had to pay to see it. 7/10

Kept seeing this on 'best of' horror lists for the last few year and it did not disappoint. The lead was so damn good as the psycho, obsessive May. I would pass on that recommendation to other fans of the genre - one of the best surprises I have seen in the last few years for horror movies. 7/10

She rubs me the right way, but it was a disappointing movie. Without giving anything away, I didn't find it believable.

Agree with all the above, great film and I recommend it to all documentary fans. The film really could have done without the two pointless scenes of the main investigator's childhood in the beginning and middle of the film; no idea why they were included in the film.

Have been looking forward to and finally saw Safety Not Guaranteed. Loved it. There were a ton of ways they could have gone with the ending and while I didn't particularly love the path they chose, the journey getting there was great. Aubrey Plaza is actually really pretty when she smiles. 9/10

Had more than a few. Its not a serious film by any stretch, but I found it wildly entertaining and funny. From the trailers, I feared it would be over the top ludicrous, but it was actually quite restrained compared to the expectations I had going in. Not to say that it was particularly restrained on any level, just much more than I thought it would be. If you go in with your expectations properly set, I think you will have a good time. A lot of times, a good time is what I need.3.98/5 stars

i would really like to see McDonough adapt one of his plays - "Beauty Queen of Leenane" for example - for the screen. This film seem to follow the "Lieutenant of Inishmore" formula of funny but character driven.

I didn't quite like it as much as FreeBaGel did (although I do completely agree about the ending), but cute and fun is exactly how I would describe it. The film intelligently had modest aspirations; it would've been very easy for the film to get out of hand in it's eccentricity.'saintfool said:

Ended up liking this movie, although it was a little less 'fun' than other movies like it - Kick ###, Super, etc.. Woody has really grown on me as an actor over the years. 6.5/10
Get Low:
Been discussed in here before, but this was a GREAT movie. I think the only let down was that I felt the reveal at the end wasn't as good as the mystery/build up until that point, so the movie ended a tad flat for me. That said, Duvall was great in it, and it was one of the better movies of the past couple years I've seen. 8/10

I caught Tomorrow When the War Began on Netflix.
Apparently this thing was a smash hit down under, but by American standards it's a pretty run-of-the-mill, below average action flick. It follows a group of teenagers that go camping out in the wilderness for a weekend, and when they come back they find that their town has been invaded by some unnamed oriental army and is being used as a port for a country-wide invasion.
Cool concept, poor execution. It mixes a few mature themes/scenes with some really low level, adolescent girl stuff. Like when the two main girls turn off their walkie talkie in the middle of a covert operation to talk about boys, and then get snuck up on by a group of soldiers while giggling over said boys. This coming from the same girl (main character) who just went on a huge rant about how serious and dangerous this all is when the guy on watch started nodding off while they were well hidden a few scenes before.

WWII movie made a few years ago. It's about a British commando raid on a Nazi radar station in Norway. Not too bad. If you're a fan of anything WWII, this might be a decent film for you, although I wasn't happy with the ending as it felt very rushed.
Stars Sean Bean, whom I think is pretty good, along with some other very good actors, a couple who I've seen before. If you've ever seen Max Manus, that guy is in it as well.

I've said it before, but I'll have to give this another try based on your love of it. Just didn't interest me when it first came out (only watched 2 or 3 episodes and then gave up).

Just two people sitting in a room talking. Writing is really something to behold. Treasure trove of actors who you see all over the place now. Especially the young actors.
Reviews not too hot for Atlas but I can tell you End of Watch is superb.

I think that's one I'll wait for on the small screen. Our chances for going out with a 1 and 5yo and the high cost of babysitting for the evening here in NYC makes picking the movie vital; it typically needs to be something "big-screen" worthy... ie: a decent enough movie that more importantly looks great big.
