This is why I liked it. Well said.I think I am still processing how I feel about this one. There really is no plot and little acting, but I still found myself glued to the screen. Think it is a beautiful looking movie and loved the feel of it. Sounds stupid, but the name that popped in my head when I was watching this was Malick. I am not saying that there is the same level of talent involved, but it did start to feel like a neon ode to him. In a way this is the 2013 Badlands. You have: teenage girl(s) falling for and in a way running off with a criminal, instead of the narration we have weird calls to their families, and replace meandering shots of nature with slow motion shots of bouncing ####. I can see why there is a big divide between critics and fans on this one, and for me it would be in the category of liking it, but probably wouldn't recommend it to many people. 6/10.
I didn't really like Knocked Up either. Both were kind of meh. Not terrible, not good.seemingly very polarizing movie. the wife and I laughed quite a bit during this one. really dont understand why people find this one so much worse than knocked upSaw This Is 40
What a steaming pile of crap that was.
Apatow needs to hang it up.
Brosnan's best, easily IMO. It will always be my favorite Bond movie or close to it because of the N64 video game as well.Goldeneye
Not a bad Bond flick. Features the unusual pleasure of seeing a fairly meanacing female bad guy.
wasnt going to watch this, but the reviews arent too bad. What would you compare this movie too? Is it just dumb fun, or some sort of a "thinking dumb fun" film?Oblivion
IMO, Tom Cruise is not all that good of an actor, but also I think his movies are typically entertaining and worth the watch. Oblivion goes along that line of reasoning, but is elevated by some of the best direction/visuals Ive ever seen (watch this in surround sound HD for sure), a solid script, and a timely soundtrack. Im not sure what my expectations were really for this, but I thought it was a fantastic sci-fi thriller pretty much all around. Highly would recommend.
4/5
Id probably even rate this more highly, but I cant help but feel like it rips off Moon. Early on, I felt that was going to happen just based on intuition. Over the next 20-30 minutes, I thought maybe Im wrong. Shortly after, Cruise is indeed a clone who is a low-level servant expecting/looking forward to his release from his job and return home. This didnt bother me enough to get in the way of enjoying Oblivion, but I got that feeling early on

The writer's must have thought having Bruce Willis saying "I'm on vacation" was a real hoot. Think he used that line about 15 times.A Good Day to Die Hard - Watched this last night. Holy crap. This was absolutely horrible. I mean - ridiculously terrible.

Unquestionably as I thought the 4th was actually pretty entertaining and fun. Seriously. Don't waste your time.
I almost rented this the other day and instead got Silver Linings. Can't remember who or where i heard it, but someone said this was the best movie of the die hard brand. Maybe it was in sarcasm. Siliver Linings was good. Wifey liked it more than me, but definetly better than alot of other crap out there.Unquestionably as I thought the 4th was actually pretty entertaining and fun. Its just a terrible, terrible movie. And not in an entertaining way. Its an awful way to spend 2 hours.
Guns, Girls, and Gambling wasnt bad. Its only 90 minutes long, Christian Slater with his schtick in full force, some decent shootouts, and nice eye candy.I also just rented Guns GIrls and Gambling from the nearly new rental section and Lincoln Vampire Movie. Anybody have any thoughts before i put either in....ie....don't waste 2 hours and take the dollar loss?
Well, not anymoreHe's still attached to the project. So is that still actually happening? Based on what I saw from Cohen in Hugo, Im fairly convinced he could do great things with this role.Speaking of Freddie Mercury, I hope Sacha Baron Cohen's Mercury movie will be good.
To me, this movie worked when it was trying to be funny. The rest was about 60% hoary melodrama.Seven Psychopaths:
Decent movie, but just not my type of humor I guess. I didn't love In Bruges as much as others either, but liked it more than this one. 5/10
Loved the sci fi in this movie, was bored with the horror aspects.Prometheus - Good, not great. So much of the movie has been done before that it's hardly an original idea but it was visually stunning and somewhat kept my interest throughout. Plenty of gripes but it was a fun ride. The underused Charlize Theron/old man storyline should have been left out, imo. 2.5/5
Even the self-surgery scene? That was pretty wild.Loved the sci fi in this movie, was bored with the horror aspects.Prometheus - Good, not great. That was well done. I just found the monster stuff to be dull and cliche - whereas the sci fi stuff felt fresh and innovative.Even the self-surgery scene? For me, that was enough for Lawless to be one of my favorite films from last year. Granted, Im a sucker for period/historical dramas, and add in illegal activity & the mob and you have me sold, but this was strong in multiple areas. Guy Pearce and Tom Hardy both had award worthy performances that give it a lot of re-watchability, Ive watched it 3 or 4 times already. Dull is the last thing Id call it if for any reason because of the acting all around by the cast. Really my only complaint was it shouldve either used a lot more Gary Oldman, or not had his character in the script in the first place.Lawless:
I ended up having an odd combination of feelings about this one. Really liked a couple of the performances, especially Guy Pierce, and really loved how the movie looked. In the end, I think that is all that kept me going. Plot was straight forward and predictable, and the movie was dull. An OK rental, but don't expect much. 5/10
I watched this a few months ago when someone posted a list of Top 100 instant watch films on Netflix and it was in the top 5. After the first 20 minutes or so (once he goes on the run), overall I found it rather slow, but Duvall without a doubt carries it and keeps interesting. His character was quite complex and he pulled it off almost effortlessly. Its hard for me to rate it because I thought it was a great performance in an average at best film, but simply its worth watching just for Duvall's Oscar-nominated performance (and in retrospect I have no idea how Nicholson won it that year in As Good As It Gets over Duvall here). The Apostle - Amazing performance by Robert Duvall who also wrote and directed it. Must see for any fan of his. Duvall plays a preacher on the run after a violent conflict who seeks redemption in a small Louisiana town. While I think they overdid the length of some of the preaching scenes, especially at the end, it didn't really detract from the movie. Duvall at his best. 3/5
Yeah, it's definitely all about Duvall. Hard to say how many redeeming qualities Duvall has in The Apostle, but I thought the character had plenty of dimension. Being a preacher who ends up beating a man with a bat, nearly killing him, and trying to find forgiveness from god in the aftermath is fairly complex. Not to mention Duvall made it hard to know if he was scheming or honestly trying to do something for others quite often. The fact that he started a new church and gave people in the community transportation to it and the opportunity to pray, learn, ask for forgiveness, etc is a redeeming quality regardless of Duvall doing it more for himself than them, or whatever the case.Love Duvall in everything I've ever seen him in.Yeah, it's definitely all about Duvall. But I really don't like this movie. Much like Ed Harris in Pollack, here are characters I hate with few redeeming qualities. I need a bit more dimension in my characters than this.
Spring Breakers
Horrible movie. Aside from the hotties and nudity, nothing is appealing about this movie. It was laughably bad at times. I have never rolled my eyes so much than I did with this movie. The ending was even more ridiculous than anything I have ever seen.
2.5/10
Pointless to rate this piece o' crap, other than how many times you spewed.Everything you said is valid. Had planned on skipping this one, but you just gave me not only a reason to watch it but also come away after viewing with no chance of being disappointed or feeling like a waste of time. Luckily, I rate my movies on a scale of 5 so it has a shot at a better than average score from me.Spring Breakers

From THX1138 to Get Low the man has been a force. And while he definitely gets many accolades IMO he doesn't get the credit he truly deserves.
Guns Girls and Gambling was decent. Seemed like director was doing a Tarantino immitation of some sorts. Stupid funny, entertaining, and worthy of a watch imo. Lincoln Vampire was pretty weak, some cool things about it, but probably not worthy of a watch imo, unless just utterly bored. Surprised I made it to the end actually.Guns, Girls, and Gambling wasnt bad. Duvall is a rare guy. Like Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, or Gene Hackman. Actors that are instantly believable the moment you see them on-screen, and they automatically improve any movie they appear in.
What did you think of Sixth Sense? They both were released the same year, and I thought Stir of Echoes was the much better film. I can see how maybe you were disappointed, but to think Stir of Echoes sucked? Im not seeing it. Its an above average supernatural thriller, especially based on whats considered average these days. It has solid acting, plenty of tension, and a twist or two that I dont see how anyone can really determine beforehand. I cant say the same about Sixth Sense, or many others in this genre.Wow, Stir of Echoes sucked. I think I put it on and bumped it up my queue because of this thread.
