Could have been my mood, but I don't give many Sandler flicks a chance. I liked this one. Then again, I have been enjoying the goofy comedies lately, like The Watch, Tropic Thunder, and Pineapple Express. Maybe it is me.

I enjoyed those other three to varying degrees, maybe it was my mood when I watched it but I just couldn't handle Sandler's obnoxious shtick early on. Listening to him suffer through a root canal without anesthesia would have been soothing by comparison.

I was also quite disappointed with this one. Was pretty excited to see it, but the majority of the fan theories in it were way more ridiculous than I was expecting; culminating near the end of the film with a guy trying to convince the audience and seemingly himself that this guy is not white but actually brown skinned. The interviewees were much more crazy conspiracy theorists than they were film critics deserving of having a movie about their thoughts, imo. Fair to say I'm not surprised one of the interviewees has starred and directed in a documentary film titled "Secrets of Alchemy". There were a few interesting tidbits like the Playgirl magazine, but they were few and far between. I'd recommend people pass over this one.
Am pretty shocked how much critics loved the film too.

Yeah I did. For some reason, I did not connect with the movie until Lauda's accident (over halfway through the movie), but then it got really really good.
It is very well shot and the actors who played the leads are spot on. Worth it

It was ok. However, any movie that basically says, in dialogue no less, that they are going to ignore everything to do with time travel because it is too confusing, probably should be skipped.

Bling Ring. Held hostage by my SO to watch. Based on a true story supposedly. I understand that when watching a movie, you have to let little things slide, afterall, it is fake. But time and time again, they find an open window or door to just waltz through. Or find keys under a mat. And all of these stars/celebrites have no security on their houses. If you can ignore all this and just go with the flick, it still sucked nards.

It's not 'supposedly' based on a true story, the film is literally based on a true story. The story was on the news and many of the kids faced jail time. Given that, I'm pretty sure the bolded is actually true. And although the stars/celebrities do have security, it is how the kids ended up finally getting caught after all, they must not have as much security as one would intuitively think.

Amazingly, that's the true part. Paris Hilton, for example, never locked her doors, never learned how to operate the security system, and never knew that she'd been robbed because they didn't disturb too much. How would she know if just one $100,000 piece of jewelry had gone missing among the pile she had? The guys would read on TMZ she was away in Cancun for a weekend and just hang out inside her house for days.

i saw this in the theater because i still kind of like Sofia's work. this was such a slight movie in almost every way. i know that is her MO when it comes to her films but it would be nice to see her grow a bit as an artist. it's a handsome film but yet another triumph of style over substance. i didn't learn much of anything about the characters and that made it hard to care for any of them. a shame because it has the germ of a terrific satire in the right hands.

Nice wiki link. Good read. Seems like they all got off pretty lightly too. Can't believe stars/celebs would leave their Mansions unsecure like that. Why not just a hire a housesitter and some dogs or something. Crazy.

I don't get the disdain that this most recent Winding Refn film got from critics. It seems most of the hate it has gotten is due to its pacing, but it's really no different than Drive in that regard and the critics loved that movie.
Really great casting/cinematography/soundtrack, etc. etc. I like Winding Refn's description of the film as a 'Western set in the Far East with a modern cowboy hero'; it's a pretty apt description as well imo. A bit more surreal than Drive, but I'd still definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Drive.

I would never call it a well done or intelligent comedy, but I thought it had a lot of funny moments and was Sandler's best comedy since Big Daddy.

Didnt want to say Sandler's best movie, because I thought Spanglish, Punch Drunk Love, and Reign Over Me were all well made and quite good.
ETA: and Funny People, which I consider more of a dramedy.

IMO Adam Sandler's last good true comedy (I liked Funny People a lot but it was not a strict comedy) was The Waterboy. And frankly I think that is overrated, Happy Gilmore is still his best comedy.

I go back and forth between Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison as my favorite. I actually prefer Big Daddy to The Waterboy. It still blows my mind how bad his comedies have been this century. Id easily take his middling 90's comedies like Wedding Singer and Bulletproof over anything since 2000.
And I dont think That's My Boy was good, I'd call it bad before good, but I thought there was more lol moments than any Sandler comedy has had in a long time. You might want to give it more than 15 minutes.

Really liked Blackfish even if you don't normally like documentary type films I think most people would like this one. Was all set to get Europa Report when I read some comments that it was found footage "crap". It looked good to me so I think I will go ahead and give it a try.

Had middling expectations that were exceeded. Pacing was really good. Kept you into it. Worth seeing on the big screen. Daniel Bruhl playing Lauda really stole the movie. He was perfect. Was a great role surprised an actor with a larger profile didn't get it. Good choice by Howard.

Just watched Prisoners, the child kidnapping thriller starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhal. GREAT performances, but Joel Cox is a director's editor which really did the film a disservice. He's done a lot of films with Clint Eastwood, who doesn't dawdle. He's hooked up with Denis Villanuve here who thinks that every inch of film shot is important and should be kept in. You could have easily shaved off a half an hour and this film would have been incredibly gripping. Last half hour is really good, but man did it take forever to get there.

also, hadn't seen traitor...
I like don cheadle and guy pearce (forgot he was in it), the middle eastern perspective wasn't a caricature and lent authenticity, and there were some twists to keep things interesting...

Thought it kind of jumped the shark. Tough to do for a series of movies that recently involved aliens attacking through a wormhole, but it got there for me.
There were a couple of really funny parts, but in general the comedy seemed to have way more misses than the first two Iron Man movies and especially than The Avengers.

Prisoners - Acting was top notch. It's a heavy film though and very good right up until the very end.

They went for as much of a Hollywood ending that a film like that could provide. Both kids are saved, Jackman is saved and they even leave the door open for Gyllenhall to let Jackman's character go free. For a movie that was pretty dark and heavy throughout to give us that trifecta felt out of place. I think Jackman's character should have died, gone to jail or left the ending truly ambiguous instead about his fate. It was okay to show them digging up the backyard but end it there, the rape whistle thingy felt like the director (studio more likely) wanted to give the audience as much of a feel good moment that a movie like that could provide.
