Ok... I really hope I'm not crazy here-

The Red Balloon- Shown in schools growing up for any of you? They're showing it at the Film Forum with another short by the same French director, and I made some kind 'oh yeah, the red balloon' comment to which my wife looked at me like I was insane for even suggesting any kids other than my hippy kid classmates in Marin county in the 70s might have seen it.
I saw this as a kid in the 70's and once again in my teens during the 80's. I remember it being a beautiful, touching film. I am thrilled to see they have re-released it. I had looked it up on Amazon for a possible purchase last year. I have to tell you, this film was very influential on me somehow.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai - Yes, I have seen this movie about eleventy billion times, but I did recently just watch it again, and I wanted to recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. One of my favoritest. Funny, touching, and all around cool at the same time. Jarmusch's best film besides Dead Man. Please check it out if you haven't seen it. (100/5)
I agree with this rating. :goodposting: I also agree completely with your reaction to Match Point. Enjoyed it, but it's just a pretty good thriller.

Floppo, you owe me something.

SmoovySmoov, jdoggydogg, Tremendous Upside, and Buckychudd, I would like your addresses as well if possible. :goodposting:
Uhh, you're not planning on showing up at my door with a boiled bunny are you? :goodposting:

i think, for me, i was my first exposure to the world outside my hometown. i knew it took place somewhere far away because the kids dressed and lived differently. Yet, as I recall, there is almost no dialogue, so there had to be a kind of universal quality to the narrative. The ending reminds me that there is something really special about being a child.

Ghost Dog: You know, in ancient cultures, bears were considered equal with men.Hunter: This ain't no ancient culture here, mister.

Ghost Dog: Sometimes it is.

One of my all time favorites

Got my dad hooked on this one also, now he uses it in his class on the Individual and Society every semester...Predictably, like .01% of his students have ever heard of it beforehand, but they almost universally love it afterwards...

Let's see:

Wallace & Gromitt: Curse of the Were Rabbit - I loved it. Knew about W&G, but never really checked it out. I thought it was cute on a little kid level, but also had parts that had me laughing out loud. (5/5)

Match Point - THe movie itself was probably a 3.5. Pretty good thriller. Still can't believe it was a Woody Allen movie. The fact that it had Scarlett Johannson, who I'm deeply madly in love with, and a soundtrack full of beautiful beautiful arias, bumped it up to a 4. (4/5)

"Has anyone ever told you that you have very sensual lips?"

My thoughts exactly.

The Last King of Scotland - I thought it was very good, and that Whitaker obviously deserved an Oscar, but man. I've watched more crazy #### than most people I would wager, and the one part, you know which one I'm talking about, elicited an "Ewwwww" from me. A little too much on that visual when I'm about to go to sleep, thanks. (4/5)

I like Wererabbit. Wallace and Gromit rule. You and I agree on many films, but I think Jarmusch stinks. His films are student-film bad. If you took any one of his films and told me it was a young director's first film, I'd see room for improvement. But he is just barely at a competent level of filmmaking.
I remembered you felt that way about him. Other films aside, GD and DM are wonderful in my book.

Red Balloon was one of the 6 film reels in rotation from the public library in the late 70s along with the stop-animation film where peanuts hunted forks and spoons. Can't remember the others right now, but those two, I recall clearly.

Oh and Ghost Dog is a movie I'll watch whenever I stumble across it. It's been getting heavy rotation on IFC recently.

Keeping with the theme of movies that I have seen many times, but recently watched on one of the movie channels, and need to recommend it to others:

I watched Reefer Madness: The Musical again last night. If you haven't seen this, you really need to. It's hilarious. Ana Gasteyer, Stephen Webber, and Kristin Bell are all amazing in this. And Neve Campbell can sing and dance? Who knew? :goodposting: Catchy songs and many many laugh out loud moments. (420/5)

Have you seen Ghost Dog?
Yes. I thought it was an amatuer film with a laughably bad script. I like Forest Whitaker, but Jarmusch just doesn't do it for me. I love independant film, and I like that Jarmusch is attempting poetry on film. I just don't think his execution is professional.

I haven't seen Dead Man. Johnny Depp, right? I'd be willing to check it out.
Dead Man feels a lot like Broken Flowers to me. It's gorgeous to look at too. It runs a few minutes too long but I liked it. For the record, I am not a Jarmusch fan.
Whole lot of Jarmusch hate up in here. saintfool, I'm going to see the Strummer movie tomorrow night.
Enjoy The Future is Unwritten...Are you a Clash fan?

For fans of the great movie, City of God

City of Men
Is this what IFC or Sundance Channel had as a TV show?
Looks like it's based on the series. From wiki:City of Men (in Portuguese: Cidade dos Homens) was a Brazilian television programme from Kátia Lund and Fernando Meirelles, the directors of the film City of God. The mini-series was watched by 35 million viewers in Brazil and was released internationally on DVD shortly after the film. In 2007, a feature length film based on the series (produced by Fox and TV Globo) was released.

I netflixed the series and really enjoyed it.

Don't try to change the subject.

It's very slow and dream-like. Beautiful, though. Might give you a better appreciation for him. Will also make a scene in Ghost Dog much funnier after you've seen Dead Man, cause there's a nod to Dead Man in there that you really wouldn't get if you haven't seen it.

Looks like I gotta rent Ghost Dog. One of those movies I always meant to watch.

And always loved The Red Balloon as a kid. Must check it out again to bring back memories.
