Holy crap. I finally got to see King of Kong - A Fistful of Quarters, and it was the shiz. I laughed. I cried. I watched it two times in a row. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up.  (5/5)
Great movie :nerd:
I thought the movie was good, but not to the level that it's hyped around here. Not the best doc. I've seen lately and I remember liking docs like Spellbound and Wordplay more when I first saw them. Maybe the bonus features ruined the movie/ending for me. Still a solid movie and would recommend it to people, just don't think I could give it a 10/10 rating - more in the 8-8.5 range.

Before The Devil Knows You're Dead

Emotionally gut-wrenching, my girlfriend barely made it through. You just feel dirty after watching it. Never seen anything quite like it. Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke (surprisingly) are both incredible in it. Some people loved the script but I thought a lot of scenes were great in spite of the script; carried by the actors.

8.5/10

If you're a big Marisa Tomei fan: 10/10. Her character doesn't like to wear clothes if she doesn't need to.

I heart Marisa Tomei

Great movie :lmao:
Watched King of Kongs last night based off of this recommendation. It was an excellent watch. Not quite "great", but very good. I also finally got a chance to watch The Cider House Rules this evening. I know most here have probably already seen it. This was one of those movies that I have always wanted to see, but just never got around to it. I really enjoyed it. A solid flick.

We Are Marshall

Wow. I lived in Charleston, WV for a few years and partied at Marshall a few times, had heard about the tragedy and the impact, etc, and thought I would be able to handle the drama of the movie fairly well. Not even close. I'm not ashamed to admit I was crying a few times during this flick. I thought everyone nailed their roles but Matthew Fox was superb. The guy who played Ruffin, the cornerback with shoulder problems, was amazing.

Awesome movie.

Watched the Mist this weekend. I liked it. Nothing spectacular but a solid movie. The monsters were all pretty lame but I saw this guys' monsters in Dreamcatcher so I didn't have high expectations. Saw the ending coming a mile away but glad they had the courage to not end with a typical Hollywood ending.

Caught the Stu Ungar story on IFC yesterday. What a waste of celluloid. Like eating rice cakes.

Watched the first 30 minutes of Party Monster as well but couldn't deal with Seth Green's and MaCaulay Caulkin's horrible over the top gay affectations.

my wife owes me big for this...

"becoming jane" with young anne hathaway.

terrible. i have no problem with "chick flicks" per se but this was really weak. everything about it - characters, plotting, script - was so damned obvious and very nearly telegraphed. this was boring and tedious.

For some reason, I watched three movies that had Jena Malone in it this weekend.

Contact - :goodposting: (I've always liked that one)

Saved! - :wall:

Into The Wild - :wall:

I will :bag: myself right off the bat as I had never sat down and watched "The Magnificent Seven" before.

So seeing that it was on, albeit the edited for T.V. version, I decided to sit down and watch it.

 Wish I had watched it before.

Very enjoyable and to add to it my daughter sat with me throughout most of it and enjoyed it also.

Why Did I Get Married? - Kept me asking, why did I watch this movie? It wasn't very entertaining, but I did make it through the whole movie. I can't think of a good reason to ever watch it again. There were about 2 times when I chuckled, but I'm not sure it was supposed to be funny. Mostly I found the characters annoying, and the most of the female characters to be over-the-top #####y.

Just remembered another one: I think I love My Wife.

Let's see - no drama, no comedy, no suspense, no great dialogue, no compelling insights into human relations. Nothing. This movie sucked and the ending was the height of ridiculousness.

it's a fun movie. i think it is far more enjoyable than "seven samurai". blasphemy in some circles but whatever. the cast makes it for me. avoid the sequel though.the best reprisal of this, i think, is yul brynner in "westworld".

Finally saw Michael Clayton - much better than expected, didn't find it boring at all. I also heard rumors that Clooney's performance was overrated, but IMHO it was his best performance to date and definitely one of the better performances of '07.

BLASPHEMY! Just kidding, the movie sucked, but Kerry Washington was SMOKIN' in this movie.

I found the first 30-45 minutes very boring. We rented it this weekend and I don't know what I was expecting but I thought it would be better :own3d: I have a question though

:goodposting: It was definitely left unresolved though.

My question is what's the deal with the very last seen in the taxi cab? Was there a point?

This has been on HBO lately, but I avoided it. Sounds like I made the right choice.

Wife and I saw Party Monster in the theaters- we were both in and around the NYC club scene when these guys were at their height, so thought it might be interesting. Slight nostalgia, but that was about it. You didn't miss anything. FWIW- the guys they play are so much more over the top than anything Green and Caulkin could muster, it's scary.

We've been on a Dexter kick lately. Not much time at all to dedicate to a movie (between the kid and a new job), so we've just been using the Showtime ondemand to catch up with one of the best shows on TV. Just finished the first season... unbelievably entertaining stuff; great writing, directing and acting. That actor from 6 feet under must have a pretty amazing agent/manager- that's two back-to-back shows that are right up there with the best there is.

Just watched There Will Be Blood

Was a little disappointed. I think the Academy got this right. DDL was amazing as usual and the movie looked great, so the awards were given where they were deserved.

It was amazing to watch Plainview's transformation throughout the course of the movie. Watching the business consume his thoughts and life and turn him into what he was at the end was as good of an acting job as I've ever seen. DDL deserves all the kudos he gets for his work.

The relationships I really didn't get into or find all that interesting. After awhile I got quite annoyed with the feud between Plainview and Paul Dano's preacher character. For some reason I didn't find it at all believable/interesting. And the final scene really showed that he was out of his league working with DDL. Same with the relationship between Plainview and his son- just didn't get into or care by the time the movie was over.

I've seen 3 of the Oscar nominees and would say this was 3rd best. Still a good movie, but IMO not great- maybe 7.5/8.0 range. I would rank them: NCfOM >>> M.Clayton > TWBB. No Country was the only one that I watched where I said "That's one of the best movies I've seen in awhile". The other 2 were good, but had flaws that prevented me from really loving the movies.

Decent series. I recommend In Treatment once HBO releases it on DVD.

i hated "dexter". i thought it was ridiculously contrived. i caught a few episodes of season 1 and found it painful.i have caught a few episodes of "in treatment" while traveling for business over the last few months. i always seem to catch episodes with the young girl but whatever. i think it's a well done series. very thoughtful in its own way.

Also just got done watching Reservation Road. Decent, not great. It was basically what I expected but still worth a rent. Since having a kid I get more wrapped up in movies like this than I used to b/c I can put myself in the situations more and think "what would I do".

Dexter is definitely overrated. In Treatment really picks up steam as the season progresses. I like the show a lot.

Just got done watching The Girl Next Door

By far one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen.

My wife made it about half way, before she couldn't watch any more.

Couldn't get into it  I'll give it another shot before we dump HBO.

You're just pissy because I flagged your Samurai blaspheming.Of course it's contrived- it's about a serial killer of serial killers. But painful?

I liked Rendition. Just watched Tsotsi, South African movie from the same director, and thought it was a very good film as well.

Disturbing? that movie was the bee's knees, Elisa Cuthbert was yummy.

watched bertolucci's "the conformist" last night. i was impressed with this early film from him. very much of the period - it was made in 1970 after all - but really interesting to see how it showed far left and far right within Europe. it is a little stylized which gives me the impression it could be a fantastic theatre experience. not surprisingly, bertolucci makes each scene look fantastic.

3:10 to Yuma

Not great, but not bad either, except for the ending. It's obvious what they were going for at the end, but it could have been done a better way. Not something I'd recommend, but was worth watching.
