Dammit. I scheduled that on my DVR and it didn't tape. What network was that on again? What was it called? I can look it up again.Jdoggy... what did you think of that Cinematogrhper Documentary?
I bet that sooner or later, a hacker will vote in Mickey Mouse to the White House just to prove the whole computer voting thing is vulnerable to fraud.Hacking Democracy -- caught bits and pieces when it was on HBO, but never saw the whole thing. Good movie, but really pissed me off about the possibilities of rigging elections. recommend it to anybody that hasn't seen it.
Hmmm... playing down the street- this just might work (which means we'll be seeing Narnia).Mongol looks like a good epic. We're seeing Wanted Friday, but it looks like a throwaway popcorn flick.I remember movies.Babysitter tomorrow night! Any in-theater recommendations?
Did you see the doc?Actually I hope that happens as it would need to be something that extreme for the masses to notice or do something about it....I bet that sooner or later, a hacker will vote in Mickey Mouse to the White House just to prove the whole computer voting thing is vulnerable to fraud.Hacking Democracy -- caught bits and pieces when it was on HBO, but never saw the whole thing. it's loosely based on real characters actually. john mahoney's character is modeled on william faulkner. turturro's character is based on playwright clifford odetts. plenty of great writers and playwrights came to hollywood to make high art but found themselves unable to succeed in the studio system.Barton Fink- Watched based on some recommendations here. Cool flick. Goodman is aces as he is in all the Cohen brothers pictures. Turturro was solid though I didn't like his character that much. Too pretentious when he claimed to be about 'the common man'. I think the guy who stole the move was the studio head, Lipnick?. He was awesome.
Further, it's kind of the point that Fink talks about being for the "common man" when in fact he knows nothing about him.it's loosely based on real characters actually. john mahoney's character is modeled on william faulkner. turturro's character is based on playwright clifford odetts. plenty of great writers and playwrights came to hollywood to make high art but found themselves unable to succeed in the studio system.Barton Fink- Watched based on some recommendations here. I think it needs to happen, but I don't know if that'd be enough to make people take to the streets in protest. Someone said that Americans will put up with anything as long as you don't take away their TV sets.I haven't seen the doc, but it looks good.Did you see the doc?Actually I hope that happens as it would need to be something that extreme for the masses to notice or do something about it....I bet that sooner or later, a hacker will vote in Mickey Mouse to the White House just to prove the whole computer voting thing is vulnerable to fraud.Hacking Democracy -- caught bits and pieces when it was on HBO, but never saw the whole thing. Sadly, that's probably the truth. I think it was during Sicko that I was thinking about that. Somebody from the British government said something to the effect that the people would revolt if they took away their health care. I remember thinking that there's probably nothing that would make our country do something like that. I realize that I am a cynic, but it seems that a lot of people that I know have the take that our votes don't matter, our opinions don't matter, etc.. so what's the point ?? Truly sad.I think it needs to happen, but I don't know if that'd be enough to make people take to the streets in protest. I think a mandatory draft to the military is one of the only things that would get Americans to protest en masse. It's easier for citizens to ignore the war when they aren't required to serve in the military.Sadly, that's probably the truth. I think it was during Sicko that I was thinking about that. Just watched this on Starz. Great flickI liked it. I thought Sandler's performance was quite good. It's kind of heavy and it doesn't have a huge payoff in the end, but it's definitely worth a rental. This decent? We liked the previews but read it got bad reviews.Reign Over Me -![]()

As a side note that has nothing to do with the movie... I was disappointed to learn that Saffron Burrows plays for the other team.
cool. It looked ok and I was just hoping it was worth a rental when it comes out.jdoggydogg said:Wanted
Not bad. Very silly. Makes The Matrix look like a documentary. But what can I say? It was entertaining. Plus to get to see a nice partial shot of Angelina Jolie's ###.
That's getting good reviews, but the trailer looks so bad I've been avoiding it.In Bruges
boooriiing.
If you don't mind completely implausible action flicks like Die Hard 4, you may like Wanted.cool. It looked ok and I was just hoping it was worth a rental when it comes out.jdoggydogg said:Wanted

Wow, I just came in to post about this one, too, but with a very different opinion. I thought this film was fantastic, and 24 hours later I still can't get it out of my mind. Am going to watch it again sometime down the road. It's a bit like a rather violent Mamet movie, with absolutely spectacular dialogue that is in many parts also just freakin' hilarious. Unlike a Mamet movie, though, this one also comes with fabulous acting. Colin Farrell--who knew? He was so good that I actually looked it up on netflix because I was sure it wasn't him. The other main character--a character actor whose name I've forgotten but has been in a million movies--was tremendous as well. And the interplay between him and the Colin Farrell character, and even more so between him and the Ralph Fiennes character, was simply great. I can't say enough good things about this movie. 5/5jdoggy, stop avoiding it.In Bruges
boooriiing.
yeah, posted awhile back - also thought this was a great movie and one of the better I've seen in awhile. I think they are riding the Pan's popularity and using del Toro's name for marketing like they were using Tarantino's. They just have to put the name on the movie post and people will watch it.I watched The Orphanage last night, and it was fantastic. I originally thought that it was directed by Guillermo del Toro, which is what interested me in the first place, only to find that he was the producer instead, but it was really really good. It's not really scary, more creepy than anything else, and moving at the same time. One of the better movies I have seen in a while. (5/5)
I am sure that's part of it. I thought there were a few really funny parts, but mostly thought it dragged too much. Easily the least funny of the Apatow comedies that I've seen.Oh, and last night while playing poker I tried to watch Knocked Up. My boyfriend was laughing hysterically, but I just didn't get it. Unfunny. Boring. Maybe guys like it because it gives them the impression that a completely doofy guy can score an incredibly beautiful woman.![]()

I see. Sounds pretty good. Lots of critics enjoyed In Bruges, so it sounds like you agree.I liked the silly stuff with the friends in Knocked Up, but the serious stuff in that movie was pretty dull.Wow, I just came in to post about this one, too, but with a very different opinion. I enjoyed this one quite a bit, and give it high marks on the "worth renting" scale. Now that I've seen it, I can tell how terribly this movie was marketed. It pays off a lot more than you were led to believe.I also rented The Hammer with Adam Carolla, which I also recommend. Carolla plays a former golden gloves boxer that has kind of drifted aimlessly through life until he's given a chance to return to the ring as a 40 year-old olympic hopeful. I know, it sounds corny, but it works. There's plenty of quick witted humor, a believable romantic subplot, and solid supporting work from his amigo. Whatever you've built up (or down) in your mind as to what this movie is, it will surprise you. Rent it. (side note: One of the problems I had with this movie going into it was thinking "Carolla as a boxer?", but it turns out he is an actual former golden gloves boxer).Definately, Maybe -- Might have to turn in my man card, but I really liked this movie. A "love story mystery" about a father telling his daughter about how he met her mother. He changes their names in the story to keep her in the dark as to which of the 3 women in his life is her mother. Stars the girl from Little Miss Sunshine, Ryan Reynolds, and the hot redhead from Wedding Crashers. Some humor, some touching parts, but really stayed away from the overbearing unrealistic romance stuff that usually bogs down the romatic comedy movies. I think it's by the same people that did Love, Actually ??
Seriously? Wtf.SaveFerrisB said:Watched Point Break for the first time in years over the weekend.
That one has not aged well, perhaps because it wasn't that good when released.
Stuff I liked: John C. McGinley as the ranting FBI boss was like watching a prototype non-comedy version of Dr. Perry Cox; the ex-Presidents masks were dope; Keanu's acting was so wooden it crossed over from bad to entertaining; the no-parachute dive out of the plane was still as exhilarating as it was in the previews back in 1992; my wife laughed when Keanu put the cuffs on Swayze and I said "Nobody puts Bodhi in a corner"
Stuff I didn't like: pretty much everything else, most notably the idea that surfers would be good at ball sports and would remember an Ohio State QB from a few years ago
Also saw In Bruges and loved it.
It's really rare when a film raved about by the critics is actually better than expected.
Good story, photography, acting and something else I noticed - it was the least predictable movie I've seen in a long time.
It also had a mix of violence and laugh out humor that reminded me of Fargo.

mcdonough is a fantastic playwright. my wife was on a tear with MM after reading "the lieutenant of inishmore" earlier this year. it's no surprise to me that he's able to pull this film off. we have it in our queue. Also saw In Bruges and loved it.

Good movie. The poker stuff was lame, though. That foot chase in the beginning is one of the best chases ever.Casino Royale - This has been sitting on my DVR for months now, and I finally decided to watch it around 2AM Saturday night. Loved every second of it. I would say a top 5 Bond flick.

That's about what it is. I still enjoyed the movie just because it seemed to at least try to have a little heart and it seems like most movies lately don't even go for that.Started Eagle vs. Shark but not very far into it. Feels like Napoleon Dynamite grown up so far, but will have to finish it before I give judgement.
YES- I don't like the old Bond movies and really dug this movie. I would give it a try...for those of us who HATE bond movies, is Casino Royale worth watching as a standalone?Good movie. I agree, I think it's decent enough. I liked it less than several of the other Bond flicks, but it wasn't terrible. Well, it's less silly than some of the other Bond movies. More of a focus on plot than gadgets. Craig is very good as Bond. Not sure I'd recommend it to someone that hates the franchise, though.
