No one?Bump. Anyone?Watched Vantage Point last night ... well, all but the ending. The damn DVD kept stalling at the same point. I will hide where I last saw and hopefully someone can fill me in on what I missed.

It sets a good mood, but as I remember doesn't fit in with the story very well. One other thing about Mulholland Drive, is that scene in the diner, with the guy talking about his dream not incredible? To this day one of my favorite scenes of any movie. Just genius. The feeling of dread and terror that he evokes is just outstanding.
Nope, the only love scene is between Naomi Watts and Laure Elena Harring. Is that the one where Nick Nolte is banging Jennifer Connelly? It sets a good mood, but as I remember doesn't fit in with the story very well. One other thing about Mulholland Drive, is that scene in the diner, with the guy talking about his dream not incredible? All right, I can buy that. Except that I don't think the part of the movie that's pre-blue box is "dreaming" per se as much as it is simply a reflection of her psychological state. A fine distinction, sure, but an important one, IMO.It sets a good mood, but as I remember doesn't fit in with the story very well. One other thing about Mulholland Drive, is that scene in the diner, with the guy talking about his dream not incredible? I could see that, but I take everything up until The Cowboy tells her to wake up as dreaming, as the first shot fading into the pillow symbolizes her going to sleep. All right, I can buy that. I usually agree with jdoggy's movie analysis. But Magnolia is one of my least favorite films of all time.XMy only argument would be that Magnolia sucked, too.I can't really argue with any of that, and yet the movie worked for me.There Will be Blood - Jebus, what a slow movie. I'm generally a fan of Paul Thomas Anderson (big "Magnolia" fan) but he fell a little bit in love with himself on this one, and really tried a little too hard in spots. It seemed like he was just being weird for the sake of being weird, especially with the ending. He did some cool stuff to symbolize Plainview's (Day-Lewis' character) narcissism and the scenes with the oil exploding from the ground were visually very cool. But the story didn't really go anywhere particularly interesting, and the character of the preacher was underdeveloped and ended up as basically a caricature. The relationship between commerce and religion at that point in history could have been a very interesting theme, but it wasn't really adequately explored, IMO.He obviously needs to learn to respect the ####.
I can see that. I understand. For me, I've seen enough movies now that I need to feel something new and even uncomfortable. I don't dig torture as a movie device. So psychological torture is what I am into. PT Anderson has a knack for that. Almost a dramatic version of The Office - where the purpose is to make you squirm.I usually agree with jdoggy's movie analysis. But Magnolia is one of my least favorite films of all time.XMy only argument would be that Magnolia sucked, too.I can't really argue with any of that, and yet the movie worked for me.There Will be Blood - Jebus, what a slow movie. I really liked a couple of his other movies (Twyker's)- The Princess and the Warrior, and Heaven.... but got shut-out trying repeatedly to watch Run Lola Run- must try again.Watched Run Lola, Run again last night.
This might be the coolest movie I've ever seen. It just drips with cool things to see, hear, and experience.
I'm taking a road trip this weekend and am taking a few moves with me to pass the time. Will report back on:
Once Upon A Time In The West
Four Feathers
Laws of Attraction
The Brave One

can you, or anybody else who thought this movie was anything above pig####, explain to me why you thought so? this was one of the worst, nothing movie i've ever seen, and it's favorable reviews blow my mind. Those emoticons are exactly what I would have predicted. I'm not getting the idea that you're interested in a thoughtful discussion of the movie, so I think I'll skip this.Long flights to and from Asia forced me to watch a crop of movies I wouldn't usually have considered (for the most part), some of which have been discussed recently here and with which I generally agree with other posters. Specifically, Definitely, Maybe was surprisingly good (3.5/5), and if you are forced to watch a chick flick this is not bad. Would have given it a 4/5 easily for the first half of the film, which brought me a lot of good laughs and made me a Ryan Reynolds fan, but it deteriorated into too much sappiness in the last third or so. Also as mentioned above, Be Kind, Rewind was fairly awful (1.5/5) and I couldn't make it through the whole thing, but I'm not a big Jack Black fan. Mos Def was very good, though. I also agree with prior comments on Stop-Loss, which was a bit disappointing to me (2.5/5). I also tried to watch Flawless, mostly because I like Michael Caine a lot, but couldn't make it through as it was just terrible (1/5).

The one recommendation I have from all the movies on the plane was Married Life (4/5). Chris Cooper and Patricia Clarkson are always spectacular, and the rest of the acting was very good as well. The story was interesting and the movie created an excellent sense of time and place. Really enjoyed this one, enough that I watched it twice.![]()

I must have said "My god" about a half-dozen times when she came on screen. She's absolutely unbelievable. As to the movie, I really liked it. I give it a 7.5, which is about the highest I can give to a movie made pre-1976.If this movie doesn't cause you to believe (and rightly so) that Claudia Cardinale is the most beautiful woman who has ever lived, then there is no hope for you, my friend.Once Upon A Time In The West
I think it was how the soundtrack linked up to what I was watching on-screen that did it for me. It's along the same vein as Vanilla Sky in that respect.Plus Potente, while not the most attractive girl around, is mesmerizing when she's running. Nice stride.I really liked a couple of his other movies (Twyker's)- The Princess and the Warrior, and Heaven.... but got shut-out trying repeatedly to watch Run Lola Run- must try again.Watched Run Lola, Run again last night.

this finally saw the light of day from my netflix queue. i was disappointed with it overall but i still liked it. it could have been a lot more, of course, but it still succeeded in what the director was going after. my dvd had an interview with the director and he stated his desire to avoid the hollywood hyperbole. i thought it could have been creepier, more psychological but that's just not what he was going for. auteuil is one of the more reliable french actors out there and binoche is good in an underwritten role, i think.just watched Cache
French made movie billed as a Hitchcock-esque thriller.
this #### was awful. slow, plodding, boring.. no thrills.. no conclusion.. no nothing. avoid at all costs.

It moves a bit slowly for my ADD trained modern mind, but even then it looks so good that I didn't mind much.
Those eyes. I've been smitten for years, and the woman is 70 years old now. And, pretty good summation. Is pretty cool to see Henry Fonda as a bad guy, though.Dude, hot mom teaches hot daughter how to give oral. meh, i guess i was expecting something more in that instance. i know i was expecting at the end with the big courtroom scene for someone to say,"men of venice! stand up and declare your love of its whores!" sadly, this did not happen.i will say this: jaqueline bisset still looks good (not deneuve or christie good but still...). i was struck by her resemblance to charlotte rampling somehow.Dude, hot mom teaches hot daughter how to give oral. North by Northwest -- Just watched this for the first time last night. It was good and I did enjoy it. The thing about it, though, is this is the type of movie that is just much better today than in 1959. Action and chase movies are generally just better now because of the technology.Eva Marie Saint is a fox. Recently saw her in On the Waterfront. Saw N by NW a while back, and thought it dragged, and the threadbare plot was confusing to me as I recall. I definitely place Rear Window at the top of Hitchcock films that I've seen."north by northwest" - maybe my favorite Hitchcock film. I've seen this dozens of times and it never gets old. It's a pretty threadbare plot (which is why "Rear Window" might top the list of Hitchcock films for me) but somehow it works. Grant is money, as always. Eva Marie Saint is damned sexy in this. Great score by Hermann. Just a pleasure to watch.
I think the ending to NbNW is one of the most jarringly abrupt I've ever seen. I just watched it last night. It wasn't that bad, IMO. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. I am sure that the book is more entertaining. That's exactly what happened. Remember the dialog where Neville says something to the effect of "Nothing went according to plan?" Further, if you watch the alternate ending, you see the bridge on which they travel to leave the island. I think the implication was that between government failure and an unexpected rapid transmission of the disease, the quarantine protocols failed. That's why the disease wasn't confined to just the island, but infected the entire world instead.last night....

damn, I was kinda looking forward to this movie too. The whole idea of being all alone and in NYC seemed pretty appealing (theatrically speaking) and it was done fairly well. But, I just felt like there was a whole bunch of nothing to this one. I would have liked to see a bit more. And, forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Manhattan completely quarantined/isolated at the onset of the virus? How the hell does a woman and boy cross on and off of this island so easily? Did the government forget to blow up a bridge or something? Mildly disappointed, but not the worst movie in the world, give it a 1.5/5.0

No. The cure mutated and started behaving like the rabies virus, first being transmitted through bites, but then subsiquently becoming an airborne virus. And I'm assuming that there were diseased throughout the world. Also, wasn't the virus supposed to be a mutation of the miracle cure of cancer? Were the only people injected with this vaccine on Manhattan? They mentioned something like 10,000+ cases. Are you telling me these were only New Yorkers? No way could a disease be quarantined solely to a city the size of New York, that's preposterous.
) was British, so I assume there were infected in London as well. Now I start to agree with you. The story has one glaring problem in that there's really no satisfactory ending that they could write. They tried one where the infected were, in fact, more human than Neville realized but that failed since it changed the nature of the infected too quickly for the story. Then they tried another where the infected are nutso to the end, but that ruined the run up to the story where it shows that they are in fact thinking and feeling creatures.I like the alternate ending better, but it still didn't work all that well. That's just nitpicking though. How about the fact the nightseekers can spring a trap, and Neville doesn't think anything of it? He mentions the fact they are losing human traits because they subject themselves to light, but absolutely no mention they were able to rig a trap?
You got me there. And speaking of that scene, the dude releases the dogs on him when night falls, and they do a good job on Neville, but the dude doesn't come out and finish him off? Come on.
Because he didn't really care about what was going on in the outside world. All he cared about was finding a cure. The character is supposed to be a little mentally unstable after seeing everyone die, being left alone on Manhattan island for three years, and dodging mutants that want to kill him every night. That character sould think a little irrationally. And how the hell did the girl hear about this community in vermont, but Neville, who is about as saavy a survivalist there is has not heard a word of it? I guess they never thought to put AM radio on?
I can understand that. I think that the movie looks so cool that it enables me to overlook a lot of it's flaws. But it was a missed opportunity to be sure. It could have been great but was instead just average.I dunno, all movies have plot holes here and there, I just thought some in this movie were a bit too big....I think I was put off by the fact that this one was only 90 minutes long or so.
Watched that movie over the weekend with my wife. Fomulaic to the point of absurdity.I watched the movie Fast Track, also titled "The Ex" on Showtime OnDemand last night.
Its a comedy with Zach Braf and Jason Bateman. I really enjoyed it, but I see it was panned on IMDB (5.7). Lots of cameos by quality comedians. Braf did ok in his typical poor man's Ben Stiller roll.
More like a 7.2 then a 5.7, lots of awkward moments.
This is true, but I enjoy watching Bateman being a smart### in a wheelchair as the antagonist.Watched that movie over the weekend with my wife. Fomulaic to the point of absurdity.I watched the movie Fast Track, also titled "The Ex" on Showtime OnDemand last night.
