In honor of my good friend @KarmaPolice I watched School of Rock and I think it's ok. It was charming and something that I could see myself watching on tv if I didn't think anything better was on. I'm not a huge Jack Black fan so that likely limited my enjoyment. The ending is a bit unrealistic but it's meant to be a feel good moment so I think we can give it a pass. Sarah Silverman is ok as the quasi villain. When it comes to school related music films I still like Here Comes The Boom and Mr. Holland's Opus so

And yeah, not loving Jack Black will limit the enjoyment in a movie like that where he is always on screen. I think Sara Silverman is hot, so that boosts my enjoyment a bit.

As a family we probably watched stuff like Here Comes the Boom and Kicking and Screaming more though.

Jay Kelly on Netflix came out last weekend. It's the new Noah Baumbach movie starring George Clooney, Adam Sandler and Laura Dern. Good but not great, though I could see myself giving it anoher watch someday and it growing on me. I am surprised to hear Sandler is getting award buzz, I didn't think he was anything special and some of his parts in the movie were the weaker elements for me. There are some false notes but still a good movie as Clooney plays an alternate version of himself, an aging Hollywood icon who has sacrificed his personal life for his career and is finally coming to terms with it. I am sure a million reviews mention this but it's very Fellini.

Watched Train Dreams last night. Might be the best movie I've seen in a long long time. Going to make my wife watch it with me. It's a lovely film, just gorgeous the way it was shot, the pace it moves perfect and the acting is superb. Just a delightful movie.

I liked it- not as much as you but thanks for the suggestion here. Had a Malick vibe to it, the pacing was especially good. It was slow but never felt slow if that makes sense. Quite beautiful.

The effects were pretty impressive on these. Fun, forgettable monster movies.
