Bad attempt at being ironic since I have been accused of being too much of a movie snob quite a few times 'round these parts.
Look, I honestly don't know what the answer is, or if there is any going back. I would still bet that comic book movies are a very small % of the movies released during the year, they just seem to be the only thing because they market the ever living #### out of them, and they are on every toy, cereal, ad, etc..
I was reading a book that I got as a goof as it seemed like a "movies aren't as good as they were in the 80s" type of thing, but it did bring up some great points. Main ones being that the system itself is far different as fewer and fewer studios are their own business. So many have been bought by huge conglomerates, and then it becomes solely about making a buck (ie known commodities, cheap horror movies) and less about making movies. The other point was foreign box office becoming more and more important - once again superhereos punching each other, horror, and gross out gags probably translate better than something like When Harry Met Sally.
I guess the best we can do is try to vote with our dollars?
