:lmao:   I don't know the guy, but he gave Dafoe a run for his money in the performances.  I'm still processing the movie too, and probably will be for a while.
Were you confused by the movie as well?

* I'm really hoping I'm not the only one.

LOL now I get it. I knew who Robert Pattinson was due to my daughters crush on him several years ago from those vampire movies. I did not realize the characters name was Edward Cullen. All I know is there were many Pattinson posters around my house for a while.

I will be honest, I didnt expect the 2 leads of Twilight to turn into 2 of the more interesting and talented young actors.

I was going to post similar I have liked a lot of stuff both have chosen in the past several years.  Not easy breaking away from something like Twilight.

Let's not pretend you haven't seen the Twilight movies...
LOL I honestly haven't. I have seen bits and pieces of it as my daughter had it on dvd. I forget which one it was but my wife and daughter went to the theater to see it and I took my youngest son to whatever the cartoon movie of the time was as he was pretty young. Our movie ends and I decide to take him into the vampire movie just to see whats up. It was a scene where someone was giving birth and it wasn't good. Probably the worst time to walk in? I got in trouble for that one.

I watched this last night as well. I enjoyed it but I have to admit I am not sure I understood it. I really dug the atmosphere. I had just finished reading a short story by Richard Chizmar that took place in a lighthouse as well so that was kind of cool. I agree the acting was very good. I just wish I understood it better. Everytime I thought I got it, I am pretty sure I didn't. :bag:

I wil be interested in your take of Portrait. I did not like it as much as KP. I have recommended it to others who I think will like it though.
Did you see The VVitch, by the same director?  Very similar atmosphere and tone to this movie and also very good; I think I might like it even slightly better.

I got a lot of the Prometheus part of the movie but missed Proteus entirely - you might enjoy this summary that I read this morning and helped me a lot.  The argument that they were the same person is interesting, too.

Ohhhhh, now I get it!  I thought you guys were saying the actor's name was Edward Cullen, too.  I know of Pattinson but didn't recognize him, I guess like General Malaise watched all of Argo not knowing it was Ben Affleck, due to his beard.  Actually thought he was very good in the movie Good Time as well.  Compelling young actor for sure.

Lol.  Really??

Drive - this should have been a 45 minute movie if every shot wasn't held for 2 minutes. I expected more car chases, and less awkward boobies.

I rewatched it again recently and forgot how violent it was. I liked it less than I did when I first saw it. Though the music and lingering shots is what is actually good about it.

🤮 Those were the worst parts for me. It had a GTA Vice City vibe to it, but lost steam very quickly. And the whole NASCAR subplot could have been cut out and replaced with something more concise to connect Ryan with Albert.

Take that part away and there is nothing unique about it. But I do agree that it's not nearly as good as I remembered. It's not aging well.

Funny you mention that. When the movie started I was thinking this is very similar to the witch. After the movie I looked it up and saw it was the same guy. It's a very distinctive style. I will read that summary tonight. I thought they were the same person at one time. I also thought one was a figment of the others imagination but I wasn't sure which one but I leaned towards Pattinson being real.

I loved that movie. The elevator scene is phenomenal. I think that is the movie where you see the car wrecks in his rear view mirror and I thought that was impressive as well.

I haven't seen the movie in a bit, but I remember loving it.

I get people not liking it, but like you said - the parts that EY didn't connect with are the parts that made Drive unique.

Gave Mr krista the option of Portrait of a Lady on Fire or The Lighthouse last night; he chose the latter.  Still hoping to get to the former soon, KP.  The Lighthouse was terrifying.  Willem Dafoe and the other guy both outstanding.
Lighthouse ruled. That ending

Wow, Midsommar was bad.

Watched It:2 the other day. Cool FX but not a great movie. I didn't really care for the first one so didn't expect much.

wikkid's 'de-stress from covfefe19' special

The best documentary Turner Classic Movies has ever made, Harold and Lillian, a Hollywood Love Story, is on TCM at 8:00 tonite. One a storyboarder, the other a researcher, for decades this couple had a subtle but profound effect on some of the best movies and moviemakers of all time. If you wanna get lost in love for all things cinema, wikkid say check it.
Good call, I’m digging this

Uncut Gems

Could have been decent but I feel like the ending wasn't finished. Also, Sandler plays a piece of #### in the movie. Hard to root for him or really anyone in the movie. And honestly, his acting could have been better. All that talk about Oscar for Sandler was silly talk.

saw it this week cuz a FFA buddy  - @Rattle and Hum - thought it was so up my alley that he offered to put up the cost. he was right - even though it was soooo not the kind of intense i ever courted in life (because i dont have a materialistic bone in my fat, hippie body) it was the level of intensity i miss so much from the show & gaming biz. still didn't think i was gonna like it because Sandu's character is so heavily leveraged 6-ways-from-Sunday and my job was to either manage or exploit those types when i was in the swim, but he really nailed the disconnected madness of the hyped life. and Garnett is the #### as an athlete whose juju is tied up in his jewelry. wikkid say check it (and its down from $7 to a manageable $3.99 now)

Loved it. Netflix has another movie by the same directors: Good Time. It's got the same crazy energy and edge of the seat thrill. Just replace Sandler betting on sports with Robert Pattinson robbing a bank with his special needs brother as his wingman.

You didn't think the ending needed more?  What happens to the money?

And was it really that much of a stretch for Sandler to play a Jewish guy from NY?

You didn't think the ending needed more?  What happens to the money?  Never crossed my mind

And was it really that much of a stretch for Sandler to play a Jewish guy from NY?    It wasn't a stretch at all, he was perfect for the role

i'd have to get arguably anti-Semitic to truly answer that question, but i saw a guy extend the fakakta swarm of Jewish family life to its nth degree into the cold/cruel and be only half-aware why he loved that so much, so Sandu essentially played a Dustin Hoffman role that Dustin Hoffman wouldnta played right and that's pretty cool
