Surprised after doing a search that their wasn't any mention of Dark City

Hadn't seen it in years and I like it soo much better.  The director's cut came out about a decade ago and Alex Proyas along with others provide great commentary.

Was pleased to see Roger Ebert loved this movie and went out of his way to give very insightful details that go far beyond cinematic critique.  THIS is the only commentary I could find from him on-line.  He gave so much more detail on the director's cut, really impressed with his mind.

Oh and he had Dark City as his favorite film of 1998 the year it came out.

Didn't realize how influential the film was but the Matrix basically stole many things as one of the producers of Dark City worked on the Matrix.

If you haven't seen it check out Dark City.  Very under rated classic sci fi.

Saw it when it came out and havent seen it since- thanks for the reminder. I liked it, iirc especially the visuals/world-building.

I mean, Poetic Justice was decent enough- and especially following the epic Boyz you could excuse some stuff. 

I saw HL in the theater. I just felt... embarrassed. And a little angry. But not in a provocative, get under the skin Spike Lee way. Just pissed i had spent any money on this drek.

I’m all for some cheesy action.  Watched Greenland last night and loved it.  ID4 was just too much.  Every part was stupid.  Too many to name.

I don't think I have ever walked out of a movie in the theater nor really seen many other people walk out until Uncut Gems which I think about 20 or 30 people walked out of.

I thought The Tomorrow War was pretty meh.   Should have been in my wheelhouse too.   

Lost me about a minute in when they said they started sending resources to the future to fight this coming threat instead of preparing for it in current time.   I spent the rest of the movie coming up with analogies pointing out how terrible that strategy is.  

took us 4 sittings to get through this. 

it is what it is, I guess. smart- not so much. well written- nope. well acted- nada. some action and suspense- sure.

Totally underrated movie imo

Yeah the mix of Noir, suspense, detective, sci-fi along with different eras of time blends like the midnight sequences that I won't elaborate.  

I love the 'look' of Jennifer Connely.  Her face is almost Gene Tierney-eske and I consider the face of Gene Tierney to be breathtaking.  One of the most beautiful of all-time IMHO.

Star Trek 1-4 coming to 4k

Of course, the first one will still be The Motionless Picture, but I'm looking forward to the other three.

Khan is available in 4k in iTunes right now and looks great considering the stock they used originally.

Devil's Advocate is enjoyable... As long as you stick through it to the end...

Basically the first half is great, then it goes to a point where you are thinking, what the bleep is going on????

As long as you stick to the end it all makes sense and makes it rewatchable to see if there were any hints on where it goes.

Well, they were dumb enough to land on a planet where the surface was 3/4 covered in corrosive acid and occasionally that same acid would fall from the sky. And their food source was 80% acid. That stuff we call water that melted them like the ####### Wicked Witch.

To be fair, I only only saw The Village and the Bruce Willis one. The end of Unbreakable was one of the worst reveals I have ever seen.

Never seen PJ either.    Pretty sure I've seen Four Brothers, BntH, and HL.   I did order Rosewood from the library, as that looked actually decent.   

As far as Higher Learning - last night I was thinking about that thread and trailer about the Karen movie coming out and everybody being up in arms.  Anyway, while watching I was reminded about the comments in there about how it felt like so many tropes and stereotypes and ideas were jammed in there that it feels like it bordered on spoof.   HL had a whiff of that too.  I should have paid more attention - did Singleton write that one too?

I honestly don't know.  I don't think I've seen it since it came out.  Even not knowing the ending people thought it was dumb, so not sure the twist saved it either.   

I also don't know your tolerance and willingness to watch subpar movies on purpose (even with the booze/vape aids).

I guess what I meant is it goes to a weird/strange place where you start to question a lot of things that are happening.. Then gets VERY Weird near the end.... Then BOOM.. it clears up when he is washing his face.

I’m a jazz fan and huge nerd for US history so it’s a really cool snapshot of the another time and place. Streaming on Hulu, the restoration looks and sounds fantastic.

Finally got around to watching Memories of Murder. I believe @krista4 was the one who was pushing it and I can see why. One of the best police procedural/cop movies I’ve seen and it’s so much more. Highly highly recommend.
