Rewatched Paris is Burning on the plane. Haven't seen it since it came out tin the theaters, so not sure if it had been edited down or not, but still just amazing. Such a well done doc to put in a time and place most of us knew little to none about back then. And incredible to see how far we've come in 30 years...and how far we have to go.

I think I posted this review a month or two ago.  :lmao:   (Watched it on a plane and hadn't seen it since it was in theaters.)

Watched 'Bruised' last night...

Loved it.

A story told a million times, but told well.

Directed by and starring Halle Berry.

On Netflix

I haven’t been a huge Andrew Garfield fan, but after watching Tick, Tick…Boom! On Netflix, I gotta think he needs to make some space for awards.  Probably more enjoyable if you have a small knowledge of musical theater and Broadway, but not necessary.

Decided yesterday morning was a good time for a   movie and so watched Kill Chain with Nicolas Cage... Interesting concept that missed a couple steps to make it better than the 2.5 of 5 that I'll give it.

Have to say it has one of worse shoot outs in movie history... These guys would have missed the broad side of a barn

Watched an alien invasion movie on the plane, starring John Goodman...Captive State. Feels like they jammed a bunch into that 100 minutes and left a lot of background info on the floor. Still entertaining, especially for a plane trip, even if some story points felt glossed over..

Does anyone actually watch It's A Wonderful Life? For years I've considered buying it (it's $5 right now on UHD streaming) but it feels more like something I ought to do than want to do. Would I even watch it if I bought it?

why do you have to buy it? can't you just watch it when it inevitably comes on?

and I'm a big fan of the movie- still watch pretty much every year.

I don't have cable and am certainly not going to watch it with commercials. Or make an appointment for when it happens to be on.

Last, and I know this is ridiculous but, knowing that it can be viewed in UHD means I'm not going to be happy watching it in "plain" HD. 🤓

:hifive: one of my "must watch" Christmas movies.

It’s probably not what you think. I was late to watching it because I thought I knew what it was and was shocked by how dark it actually is.

Reminds me of the Friends episode where she is watching movies she never saw, or finished. ...it's a wonderful life being one she shut off before the end..  Her quote:

They shouldn’t have called it “It’s a Wonderful Life,” they should have called it “It’s a sucky life and just when you think it can’t suck any more it does.”

Just watched Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog on Netflix. It’s got a lot of Oscar buzz and it’s best to go into it with little knowledge. It’s a Western or better described as a drama in the setting of a western. Cumberbatch plays against type as a real ornery cowboy. I was interested and quite fascinated the whole time because it’s the kind of movie where you aren’t ever quite sure where it’s going even when you do. I was basically able to see where it would end up but it was so unsettling that it kept me off kilter the entire time. It’s not a movie you can bounce on and off the phone with, it is slow but demands attention. The best part was how gorgeous it looked. Just exquisitely filmed with some breathtaking scenery. Also for those with a 4K TV, this isn’t just in 4K but in Dolby Vision. I’ve never streamed anything that looked this good.

Every Christmas Eve. Probably will every Christmas Eve for the rest of my life.

It sure sounds good but I'm a little skeptical of Campion after all the praise given to that pile of dung The Piano.

Speaking of Christmas movies. The wife put on Die Hard while we cleaned up the basement.

I think Die Hard might be a top 10 movie for me. I love it.

White Christmas

I had not seen this movie since childhood. I remember my Irish grandmother being in total disbelief that Danny Kaye was not Irish. She could not process the information that he was a Jewish boy from Brooklyn named Kaminsky. His red hair, and being named Danny, just knocked her off kilter, stunned her.

Rosemary Clooney was a lovely woman, an ethereal beauty.

Bing had an awful toupee, like it was something he got it from Morrie's Wigs.

Pig is available to rent on Prime. Watched it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, it's Nicolas Cage searching for his stolen truffle pig. No, it's not what you expect.

Just watched this on Hulu. Its really, really good. Some articles say Cage could get an Oscar nomination for it. Wouldn't surprise me. He's excellent.

What’s the deal with Cronenberg? I’ve seen Scanners and Dead Ringers and I just don’t get the appeal. Anyone like his movies?

Also if you have HBO Max, Shiva Baby might be the funniest movie of the year. It’s only like 80 mins too, well worth a watch.

Haven't watched much other than The Fly and eXistenZ.

The former is great, the latter I enjoyed once but didn't need to see again. I don't really get the appeal either.

Red Notice is dumb fun.

It all hinges on how you feel about Ryan Reynolds. If you think the PG version of Deadpool is still petty funny, you'll likely enjoy it.

But it is derivative and absurd and obvious that it's a Netflix rather than Big Studio movie.

I’ll give The Fly a try. I hated that movie as a kid. I was a horror movie fan and rented that expecting Halloween or Elm Street. I just remember being so disappointed. I think I was hoping for a half man half fly slasher.

Yeah, it's not that. It's more of a gory tragedy.

I'm not a huge fan, but I'm a fan. had a nice run with Scanners, Naked Lunch, Videodrome. ExistEnz and later w/ Eastern Promises and History of Violence. Usually tells an interesting story well- gets good performances and provides nice visuals, pacing, editing. I don't make a point of running out to see his new movies, but I usually enjoy them.

Yep and at 12 or so, I wasn’t interested in that.

Oh I didn’t realize he directed History of Violence. I didn’t love that either. His movies are definitely different, I’ll give him that.

Enjoyed it

Like Reynolds, Rock and Gadot
