Never really thought about it.

60's/70's Ridgewood. Everyone knew everyone and there weren't many rules. Just be home by 6pm for dinner. Later days I was briefly homeless and singing in a metal band. Good times!

Audition 

The movie is longer than I remember,  and the build-up takes longer than expected (about 50 minutes before #### hits then fan?) . Then phone call + smile + bag = :scared: ., and I have 1 hour left.. 

 
I watched the 2021 version of Dune this week.

I haven't seen any of the other film versions and haven't read any of the books, so I'm a newbie here.

I enjoyed it. Good cast and production values. It wasn't a classic, but it was good enough to watch the next chapter. 

 
And no, I didn't make it through Con Air.  90s action movies haven't been holding up much for me.   The ones that have have mostly been across genres and have action mixed in.

I actually did rewatch The Rock after you mentioned it. It’s so silly but I did enjoy it. 

 
Jackass forever ❤️❤️❤️ me and two buddies caught it today after a morning round of golf, snuck in some beers and it was just us 3 in the entire theater. laughed from start to finish

 
Dead Ringer - I think it was mentioned here not too long ago. Jeremy Irons is excellent in a dual role but I hoped for more of a twist. Very slow.  Disappointed 2/5

Cry Macho - The kid was not a good actor. I'll take whatever bit of Clint we have but fast forwarded a lot. 1/5

 
With the Wong Kar Wai discussion recently, thought I’d note that Chungking Express and In the Mood for Love are on TCM tonight starting at 2am ET.

Cliff Robertson played a developmentally disabled adult in Charly, which is based off of the short story "Flowers For Algernon," which is about a procedure that takes someone on the tail end of the IQ spectrum and turns him into one of the brightest on the other side of it, only to see the surgery unwind and reverse itself. It's a character portrayal of somebody getting smarter until he's a genius and then realizing that he's getting dumber and dying all in one fell swoop. 

Insert the Ben Stiller quote about never going "full..." here and you've got the movie. It's actually something we watched when I was much younger in school. "Flowers for Algernon." Never forget it.

I just watched it yesterday and feel exactly the same way (and likewise was a complete newbie).

lol yes you did, it was a such a silly movie all the way around but it was fun

 
Wife and I watched Power of the Dog. We both thought it was terrible. 

No issues with the acting. Quite solid. But the movie, as a whole, was really bad. In our opinion.

was not a fan at all either.  depressing dogma to the hilt.  IMO

For a pretty stark juxtaposition last night I watched Jurassic Park after Twister.     I was amazed how bad Twister's f/x were, and I am still amazed at how good JP looks.

Agree, never got the appeal of Twister beyond the great cast.

It made almost 1/2 a Billion $$s.  It appealed to a few people at least.  

I had a vague memory of my group placing it more in the "so bad it's good" camp of movies.  I remember watching a few times, but I didn't get the impression that it was held up as an actual good movie like The Rock or other blockbusters of the era.  

 
Last night I watched some Jackass since I was listening to The Big Picture's pod about it and I didn't know these idiots had a new movie.   Yes, I still laugh at a few things, but I definitely forgot how nauseating the 2nd movie was.   :X

The stuff I seem to find the funniest is the stuff more on the "prank" side - ie High Five and the Valentine Letter.   I just must have blocked out of my memory how many nut punches,  body fluid injesting, and messing with animals segments I had to wade through to get there.

I think it was mostly Pt 2 that got me.   When it's funny, it's really funny.  I think starting with Yellow Snowcone, there were a few that really turned my stomach, and I don't remember that stuff bothering me nearly to that level in my younger days.

Same - I dont care for the gross out stuff....   I just enjoy the sheningan/stunts

 
Lol - I know I said I need to stop with the 90s marathon, but I watched Dark City and Being John Malkovich yesterday.  

Now it's time to make a list of Oscar nominees that I can actually stream and start in on some newer movies.

Love these. Need to rewatch Dark City, which I haven't seen since it came out. I researched Malkovich in the last year and was happy to see how well it held up.
