I don't know where the urge came from, but the other day I decided I wanted to watch The Color Of Money for the first time in a decade or two.

It's a bit more of a mess than I remembered. Some of the character motives change on a dime, and the Eddie/Carmen tension didn't ring true to me. Plus, there were absolutely ZERO pool halls in the mid-80s that had mostly black patrons that would have "Werewolves Of London" playing on the jukebox

That said, the cast was amazing. I know it became a thing that Newman won the Oscar as a LTA Award, but I disagree. He was fantastic in this film.

Sinners - Not a rental but just saw this at the theater. Really well made movie and a lot of fun. Michael B Jordan was very good in it. All the acting was, really. And Ryan Coogler is a terrific filmmaker.

Bullet Train Explosion (2025) is new on Netflix. It's a Japanese disaster movie that takes plot elements from Speed and Runaway Train but shape them into something different and distinctly Japanese. There's less emphasis on individual heroism and more on the collective efforts of the railway company to prevent the explosion of bombs planted on a high-speed train bound for Tokyo station.

I'm a train nerd and enjoyed the footage of Japanese rail infrastructure but the movie is about a half hour too long--the story really slows down in second hour as it diverts into the psychology of the terrorists.

Is Heavy Metal what you guys watched as teens? I thought it was fairly interesting. I'm going to watch the sequel before it leaves tubi even though the reviews are bad.
Loved that movie.
Long story short..
3 friends, LSD, basement TV with lights off..
The part where they are doing moon dust and flying through Metroid's ..
Tripping at the best.
Sister heard the movie, came downstairs and saw us all moving in unison ducking, shift left, shift right, duck.
:lmao:

I was supposed to see this as part of my 13th birthday celebration. My mom drove me and my buddies (all D&D nerds) into SF and dropped us off at the theater... In a not great part of the city. We walked up and got denied entrance- R rated movie. Pre cell phones, we were on our own until the arranged pickup time. I think there was a random fantasy/ D&D store almost next door to the theater where we spent the next two hours. Otherwise, based on what else I saw...we'd have been pimped out for tricks.

Busy weekend of nonsense watching. Rewatched 12 Strong as I'm reading a book about the events the movie is based around. If you don't intend to read Horse Soldiers or Swords of Justice then it gives you an idea of what happened when we sent our first team in Afghanistan after 9/11. It is loosely based on the events but boy did Hollywood Hollywood it up.

Havoc - Tom Hardy action movie about a cop that does bad stuff, tries to redeem himself, blah, blah, blah. It's an action flick where Tom Hardy tries to act and he shouldn't. Not bad, not good, plot is played in a million other flicks. Give it a solid meh, ok.

Battleship - another rewatch. Mindless goodness, I was a couple of bourbons in Saturday night and just needed a mindless action flick. Taylor Kitsch and Brooklyn decker running scratched the itch

I couldn't get past the horrible CGI. Not sure one scene in that movie is real.
The police chases alone were ridiculous to look at.

Same. I made it 20 minutes. With the cast I really wanted to like it. I think in my old age I'm getting trigger happy on giving up on movies. That feeling I get from thinking my time isn't worth watching it anymore has almost become a drug.

I prefer the Havoc with Anne Hathaway and Bijou Phillips

I watched the whole thing...
so the rest of you don't have to.

Apparently I missed that email

"The Return" was pretty good if any of you are into historical fiction...highly regarded in the Rotten Tomatoes world. Saw it on HBOMax

@whoknew features possibly the greatest casting/cameo I've seen in a long time
BUDDY GUY AS OLD SAMMIE

Heading to Sinners IMAX tonight, really really excited for this one

my 13yo daughter loves scary/freaky movies. I think she's old enough to handle sexual content... but just how much sexual content, if any, is there?

other thoughts for a 13yo girl seeing this?

I don't have kids, so not sure what the right answer is for a 13 year old.

There isn't any nudity that I remember. But there is sex and oral sex shown. And writhing.

It was decent updating the Odyssey ending into a PTSD themed story. The movie was shot in Greece and gave it a sense of authenticity. It was somber in tone but I enjoyed it.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is a 2023 Guy Ritchie/Jason Statham action movie that's streaming on Peacock. I love spy movies but this isn't a very good one. Statham is part of a team trying to recover a poorly defined macguffin that's being exchanged on the black market. Aubrey Plaza plays the computer hacker and gets to provide commentary over the team's communication channels. There's also a sniper guy and more curiously, a Hollywood actor played by Josh Hartnett who's blackmailed into helping the plan. Hugh Grant hams it up as a billionaire arms dealer and gets most of the good lines.

The plot doesn't make any sense but at least it's paced pretty well. It's a mid-budget film so the action isn't spectacular--it's mostly Statham doing close combat stuff against generic bad guys. It's clearly set up to be the first entry in a franchise but it bombed on initial release.

It's rated R. I haven't been to the theatre in a while so I don't know if they even enforce the age restrictions anymore or if theaters are just so desperate for $$$ that they turn a blind eye. (or if they even do those anymore!) I don't think it's always 100% accurate but on imdb they have a parents guide for the movies. I think there's another site but you might have to pay for it.

Thanks!

R means needs to be accompanied by an adult, which she would be.

Theres some parents guide... Toms?.. that I can never remember.

If you see this, stay for the mid-credit scene...
And the post credit scene.

Was very good. I loved all the music in it, to me it was a Delta blues based vampire story- 2/3 of the movie was really about the music and characters more than the actual horror. There’s a lot I’m still unpacking with what he was trying to say. Definitely recommend it at a theater and imax if it’s still showing there this weekend. I went on a Tuesday night to the local AMC and it was 2/3 sold out so this thing is going to keep chugging a long making bank.

As for is it appropriate for kids? It’s violent but nothing behind what you might see on The Walking Dead. There’s sexual talk and depictions of sex but no nudity.

Leave The World Behind - A family's getaway to a luxurious rental home takes an ominous turn when a cyberattack knocks out their devices, and two strangers appear at their door.

Odd movie coming from an apocalyptical aficionado. The more interesting thing is the Obama's are listed as Executive Directors. Interesting because of the theme of the movie. I will say, they nailed the ending.

I'm still thinking about it, but thought Conclave had about one too many turns for me. Very good acting and it was quite tense, but lost me a bit at the end.
Would it still be worth checking out even if you know the big reveal?
I watched it this weekend. Decent enough watch, some drama throughout to keep you interested, gives some insight on how the process works, ending was ok. You knew there was something else coming, did it need to be that? Meh, it worked for me.

LOVE this movie. The ship scene was awesome.
