I'd been eyeing Santonio for awhile now but passed on him for Cotchery, Bulluck, and Allen...surprised he lasted as long as he did. I think you got a steal.
Okay then: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Yeah, I DO like Holmes in this spot, don't get me wrong. It's not that slam-dunk home run value picks that Rudi and Hasselbeck were, but it's probably at least a two-base hit. I need to hit a few more HRs though if I want to run with the elite of the league, IMHO. I'm a full-time mapmaker and dad. I can only swim with the sharks in the safe end of the Pool thanks to my status as a Goon (FBGs Blogger). If not for that, I'd have probably started the kicker and DT runs by now, LOL. :goodposting:

Holmes is really in the same tier as Marshall and Jennings - 2nd year guys who have gotten off on the right foot and have futures as fantasy WR2s. They're all great value this late, still on the upside of what looks like very fruitful careers.

7.06 in a 16 team league (even with IDPs) is a sweet price for Holmes. Great pick there.

I'm really liking Sig's team now.

Very good starters all over the offense, Sig will probably start hitting D hard now, but there's generally good D to be had late.

I'm very surprised to see a team with no WRs and 4 LBs.

Yeah...he's been pissing me off because he's hoarding all the stud LB's. :hot: However, I like his strategy. Your IDP players can make your team and he has, without a doubt, the best LB corps. I am in a similar league except it was 32 teams and one guy had Urlacher, Merriman, and two other LB's yet to be drafted in this league and they carried him into the 2nd round of the playoffs. Even though he didn't have any productive offensive players. Terry could always trade one of those LB's for a WR and still be just fine.

The drop-off from the top 3 or 4 DE's to the rest is much steeper than with the LB's, and it's much tougher to find surprise DE's who emerge than it is LB's - at least it's been that way for me. I got Peppers and Suggs, who I regard as the best two DE's in this system (especially because it rewards big plays on top of regular stat accumulation), which should hopefully translate into a 3-6 point advantage per game at that position for each guy. And what I like about that tandem is that they're still young (mid-to-late 20's) and DE's tend to age pretty well and are effective into their 30's (see Jason Taylor, Bruce Smith, etc.). I've still managed to land Antonio Pierce, who's a top 10 LB, and I also managed to pick up Wilson who I think is the top S. The obvious problem for me is that by going to IDP's as early as I did, I'm not as deep on offense as my leaguemates are.

I have never played IDP and started FF only last year, so I am not as far as a professional as the guys here in this leage, nevertheless with the scoring system in this league I think you do have a very good team so far.Sure, you did not have depth on your offense but at least you'll have the starters for the offense spots and your defense looks great so far.I enjoy watching this draft and learn for the future. Really great.

I find this funny.I'll be sure to let you know if and when someone goes pro at FF.

Thanks for following along in this draft. It is entertaining I'm sure. The variety of strategies is very interesting.

My team's analysis won't really be complete until May with rookie picks, but I should be OK at the end of Round 45 (sometime in March.......)

You see I am from Germany, here we call someone professional if he is really, really good in something, not necessarely getting payed for it.

Speak for yourself, Jeff, but I'm a pro. :fishing: I agree that the final analysis is just not feasible for a long time. We're through about 7 rounds, which is 7/45 of this veteran draft. The league starts 19 players, which means that each roster will have about 21-25 "important" or contributing players this year, one or two of whom hopefully will come from the rookie draft. We're waaaaaaaay early. I'd say the next 15-20 rounds will have about as much to say about each team's strengths and weaknesses as these first 7 have had given the number of starters and the number of teams.

7.09 105. Sigmund Bloom McMichael, Randy MIA TE Fri Feb 16 1:00:24 a.m. ET 2007

So....

lets break it down:

1) trade up from 1.06 to 1.02 to get LJ - slid from 2.11 to 3.02 (Boldin to Andre), 5.06 to 7.13 (Watson to McMike in essence) 10.11 to 12.15 (TBD). I did this because I had a strong feeling that Id be looking at Bush or Portis with my 1.06 and as much as I like Bush's long term outlook and Portis's track record, I wasnt sure either was truly a "build around" guy like LJ was. I also thought the price was extremely reasonable.

2) Andre was easy pick but I had Evans almost neck and neck with him as a true WR1. I knew Smith was picking at 3.04 and that Evans was a strong possibility for him. Evans, being last of the young true WR1s, was a top priority. My goal with my 3rds was to be able to start a true WR1 at my WR2 slot. I ended up sliding down from 4.11 to 5.02 (Brady to Brady) and 9.06 to 9.15 (TBD) to go from 3.06 to 3.03 and secure evans as my WR2 instead of having Harrison or Owens

3) Brady was a gift. I understand why everyone took the QBs they did ahead of him, but in general, he should have went higher than 66 overall.

4) So Im sitting on my 3 7ths, and the only IDPs i would consider were Peppers, Bulluck, and AWilson, in that order, and two of them went before we got close to my 7.06. At that point, I resigned myself to my usual minimal IDP initial draft strategy and decided to focus on getting two of the three young WRs left who I felt would be productive starters for long stretches of their career (Marshall, Holmes, Jennings). Once we got to 7.04, it would have been stupid for me to not lock up marshall. So i slid from 7.13 to 8.04 to do it.

5) I then patiently waited for one of Jennings or Holmes to fall to 7.08 and one did. Then a new good problem arose. I started debating McMike when I was on the clock for the Jennings pick, and it felt kinda wrong to pass on him, being the last of the dependable fantasy TEs, and me not having a TE and all. So I got Jake on the line (who was busy celebrating his 30th a little after midnight - hope you're drunk already Jake), and was able to get that 8.04 back up to 7.09 (the next pick) to lock up McMike (dropped from 11.06 to 12.08 and 16.11 to 17.09). Alex Fernandez was going to be up in a few picks and he's a South FLorida guy, not to mention he needed a TE too, so I didnt think McMike had any chance of falling to me.

Ive also amassed these clumps of picks:

Year 2006 Draft Pick 12.08

Year 2006 Draft Pick 12.11

Year 2006 Draft Pick 12.13

Year 2006 Draft Pick 12.15

Year 2006 Draft Pick 17.04

Year 2006 Draft Pick 17.06

Year 2006 Draft Pick 17.09

I like to have clumps in these mid rounds so my tough choices are reduced. I'll outline my minimal IDP strategy in a massive offseason article, but this draft should end up being a good illustration of it.

Actually more. This is where the league will sort itself out.

Marc getting Travis Henry and T. Jones, 2 very serviceable starting RBs that late, after racking up 3 top stud WRs and Vince Young, is HUGE IMO. Best teams so far IMO:

Marc Faletti, Blooms, and Brian Smith. :kicksrock:

12.07 183.

Currently on 7.15 (Pick #111). Nearing the stretch where I'll be building this team up with 7 of 59 picks.

Guys, at what point do we shorten the draft clock? I think we should consider doing it soon to encourage preselection of picks.

I am still very bitter that I had to decline the invite to this league. It looks like great competition and a bunch of fun.

Patriots RB Dillon May Be Cap Casualty?Mike Reiss, Boston Globe - [Full Article]RB Corey Dillon is scheduled to have a $4.4 million salary cap hit, which is a bit high for a likely situational player. Which indicates his presence on the roster isn't a certainty. The team has rookie RB Laurence Maroney and third-down RB Kevin Faulk under contract for 2007, with FB Heath Evans and FB Patrick Pass scheduled for unrestricted free agency. The article also looks at the running backs who are scheduled for unrestricted free agency in 2007.
I'm a genius!
Don't get too excited yet, the blurb fails to mention that the Pats are WAY WAY under the cap.

Steven Jackson (born May 11, 1984 in Columbia, South Carolina) is an American football fullback, currenty on the practice squad of the Carolina Panthers of the NFL. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Minnesota Vikings out of Clemson University, but was cut on September 2, 2006 [1]. Jackson played one season at East Tennessee State University beforing transferring to Clemson.
I had no idea he existed.

Shhhhh...he's my sleeper pick for the next round. If the other guys in the draft heard this they'd pluck him right before I pick. Evil bastages!

Damn it! Can't you just let me dream a little longer before you go throwing ice water on me!?!? :wall:

With the 7.13, I kept my LB "roll-on" and went with LB Ernie Sims, Lions. He's talented, he's young and he has a motor that just keeps running. I've liked him in my other dynasty leagues for over a year now, and after Lofa Tatupu came off the board, he was my "BPA" at this stage. After eight rounds (since I don't have a pick until the ninth), I'm currently sitting at:

QB - McNabb, Hasselbeck

RB - R. Johnson, D. McAllister, Norwood

WR - Reggie Brown, D. Branch, M. Furrey, S. Holmes

TE - Watson

K -

DE -

DT -

LB - Fletcher-Baker, B. Scott, E. Sims

CB -

S -

13 players to begin to build the franchise around. I was hoping the LB run wouldn't start quite as early as it did (I got "B+" players instead of the "A" players I had been hoping for heading into the draft). However, on an overall basis, I am very happy with my squad. We're getting AWFULLY close to "money time" now though...where the contenders will separate from the pretenders in our league. If I can just stay the course, I should be positioned to be one of the top 4-5 teams in the league. I don't have the outright stars that some of the other squads do. However, I'll be deeper (with fewer holes/deficiencies) then just about every other squad out there. We'll see how it all shakes out.

I actually named one of my teams that when I ended up with Larry, Rudi and Chad.

I like that Berrian pick. He made big strides last season and seems poised for some good things. I think he can be a Darrell Jackson type player in the right system. He's a free agent after next season and you have to think someone will break the bank for him.
