Agreed that the Pro Bowl ballot is not definitive. For the first two years of his career when he played H-back for Gibbs, Chris Cooley was listed as a FB, despite never lead blocking on a running play the way a FB does.

Didn't mean to stir up too much of a hornet's nest, but I was reminded of this issue yet again when Castillo's name showed up on the draft list. MFL has shown no interest in keeping the DE/DT designations correct. It may be easier to leave things that way, but it's no different than the Colston WR/TE issue IMO. In the vast majority of cases -- I don't know that, despite all on-field facts to the contrary, that I'd be able to argue a successful case against Bryan Thomas -- MFL can be proven clearly wrong on the DL positional designations.
If they haven't corrected Castillo nearly two full years after he was drafted, there isn't much hope for future improvement. Leaving MFL responsible is fine, but it's a gaping loophole IMO.

I'm just interested in the feelings of this league since it's been a bone of contention in another league of mine. You can stroll through the player lists at MFL; if you have a decent knowledge of defensive players and alignments (and I know you and most in this league do) they are clearly evident.Thanks for the discussion guys. I'll stop throwing monkeywrenches into the thread, I promise.

Actually, I'll shut up altogether. After lord_helmet's question, I went back and looked. MFL has adjusted nearly every player we had to discuss during last season. 
The list of players manually adjusted by our commish last year was long -- and nearly all (except Castillo) have been corrected in the past month.

The sources used for determining a player’s position is currently NFL.com's Depth Chart. Keep in mind that it may be necessary to look at other sources to verify any position. The Commissioner has the last say as to where a player will be placed.

Getting caught up with my picks:
16.04 RB Musa Smith, Ravens. The guy has a history of injuries, but he's got youth, size and a potential GOLDEN opportunity presenting itself if the team decides to part ways with Jamal Lewis. I would fully expect the Ravens to go out and draft/sign another RB if Lewis doesn't return to the team. However, I see Smith as having every bit as much of a chance at meaningful production down the road as most/all the other RBs still on the board. Worth a flier at this stage, IMHO.
16.13 DE (DT?) Cory Redding, Lions. Here's another D-Lineman with an identity crisis in MFL. He's a DT, listed as a DE. RB Reuben Droughns, Cleveland: I think he was around the 50th RB drafted or so. Not a pick with huge upside given the bad year he just had, but in a 16-team league where most teams will start 2 RBs, getting a potential starter at this point seemed like good value and I didn't see any dropoffs coming at the other positions. He's 28 years old and doesn't have too much mileage on him. The Browns will likely try hard to upgrade at this position in the draft, but Droughns is a reliable veteran who can contribute in a RBBC situation while the younger guy develops.
My offense won't be seen as one of the best in the leauge but hopefully it's steady, deep, and productive enough to allow my IDPs to put me over the top most weeks. As always, there is good value to be had with older players in startup dynasty drafts like this. I'm hoping to find a good mix of older guys who can help me win now and younger guys who have plenty of upside.

Musa will be a UFA next month. I doubt if he gets signed to a big contract by anyone. If Jamal leaves and the Ravens don't attempt to re-sign him, it doesn't say very much about his ability. At best he will start out as a backup this season imo. Not a bad pick, as he could eventually start somewhere, and he seems to have 3rd down back qualities which is good in ppr leagues.Just checked his stats- 4 seasons, 33 games, 57 carries, 4.1 ypc. Who would want him? The best thing he has going for him is age.

I doubt M. Smith signs a BIG contract with anyone too! However, I do believe he will be re-signed by the Ravens and, assuming Jamal Lewis is not willing to settle for a lot less money than he's been accustomed to, has as good a chance at seeing at least 60% of the carries in Baltimore in 2007. Heading into week 3-4, he actually was showing more explosiveness and cutting ability than Lewis or Anderson on the practice field and in his limited action on game day. Then he suffered a severe "body burner" and neck injury, and that, coupled with Billick's re-commitment to giving Jamal Lewis a chance to return to his old form, pretty much ended Smith's season.
Am I saying Smith is on-par with a "Michael Turner"? Not hardly. However, I think that other than rolling the dice on the Texans RB situation, Smith presented the best shot at making a meaningful contribution to a fantasy football team. It's a roll of the dice though, nothing more. There are 2-3 RBs I like better still on the board from a talent perspective, but NOT from an "opportunity" perspective. And in fantasy football, opportunity is INCREDIBLY important.
EDITED TO ADD: Might be worthwhile to check back at Chester Taylor's stats from 2002-2003 as well. Kind of in a similar position to Smith.....except without the health issues. 16.16(256) Jerry Porter - He's got WR2 and maybe WR1 skills and a fresh start with a new offensive minded coach. What's not to like with Porter as the WR67?
17.01(257) Ahmad Brooks - He's a 2nd year player poised to take over the valuable MLB spot in Marvin Lewis' defense . . . if he can keep his head on straight. I could have picked him later but I really wanted him.

18.04 LB Thomas Davis, Panthers. Another athletic and talented 24-year old LB to add to my stable. Honestly, I am probably as happy with my LB corps as I would be with Terry's....with the added advantage of my guys still playing 3-4 years after his LB corps are collecting their pension checks. LFB, D. Johnson, E. Sims, B. Scott and T. Davis is PHAT as a LB unit, in my opinion.

This is a value pick, just for me. :horns: I get to watch every snap that Winfield plays throughout the season (Vikings homer), and the guy very-quietly gets it done, week in and week out. If he were on a more-vaunted defense like the Bears or Ravens, he'd get a LOT more press! However, Winfield at 18.05 makes me very, VERY happy. Almost went Drew Carter here, but I just couldn't pass on the opportunity of having Winfield and Tillman as my CB1-2 duo going forward.

18.04 LB Thomas Davis, Panthers. Another athletic and talented 24-year old LB to add to my stable. Honestly, I am probably as happy with my LB corps as I would be with Terry's....with the added advantage of my guys still playing 3-4 years after his LB corps are collecting their pension checks. LFB, D. Johnson, E. Sims, B. Scott and T. Davis is PHAT as a LB unit, in my opinion.

Since I lost out on Drew Carter, I traded up and picked up D. Hagan. I think this kid has tons of potential as long as he can learn to catch the ball. Chambers is overratted IMHO and I think Hagan can take over there in a year or two. (if someone can get the ball to him)

You won't be saying that if Houston turns out to be the Jets' version of MBIII for me as my RB2.2 words.....SUCK-AHA little intra-draft maneuvering - we'll see if it pays off. I traded up to 19.07 from 19.14 to try to take timely advantage of the Barlow release and pick up Ced Houston:
19.07(295) Cedric Houston- depending upon who you listen to, Houston is either the most talented RB they have on the roster or garbage. He is the only holdover at RB from the prior regime, not a plus with control-freak-Mangini. OTOH, he's got talent and by releasing Barlow, the other RB most like Houston in terms of skills and physical attributes, that to me implies a vote of confidence in Houston . . . unless they trade for Turner or draft a RB high in the draft.

Rookie year.
There's a long list of good WRs who didn't do squat for at least one season. Some recent examples include Bernard Berrian, Chad Johnson, Plaxico Burress, TJ Houshmandzadeh, Donald Driver, Javon Walker, Hines Ward, Jerricho Cotchery, Joe Horn, Reggie Wayne, Laveranues Coles, and Santana Moss. Not one of these guys had a good rookie year. Most of them were downright putrid. As a whole, they averaged about 300 receiving yards during their first year.
I don't know where this perception that a WR has to light it up in year one in order have a productive career comes from. A very large percentage of the top 20-30 WRs in FF didn't have more than 350 receiving yards as rookies.
Hagan had 221 yards. He caught 56.8% of his targets. That's a better percentage than what Torry Holt, Donald Driver, Chad Johnson, Roy Williams, Anquan Boldin, and Terrell Owens did last year. He was a record-setting WR in college. His hands can't possible be that bad.
I thought he could be another Muhammad entering the NFL and I still think he offers that potential. It's way too early to dismiss him.
