truth is it just kind of happened, i wanted to start a league and got talking with bloom (known him for a while in one league) over the rules, spent quite a bit of time going over the format, i know rudnicki a bit too, once those 2 were on board it was easy to add a couple other staffers, the opportunity to embarrass each other is always tempting, the message board guys were found via pm's that i sent to some of the more active posters at the time, quite a few turndowns, but in the end found this group.......it kind of fell into place.........i know jeter23 has 3 versions of his hyper/active going now, believe full though, i think quite a few staffers are also in the no mercy and zealots leagues, best bet is to just join some of those leagues and out start to meet people.hope that helps

1.07 chris johnson....i wasn't thrilled with my options here, had rice been around i would have done that, i was debating felix but once i was forced to decide i started watching videos....i came away thinking that cj is a hell of a weapon, this guy is fast and it shows on the field........IF the titans use him right, i think i will have a gem there, rbs only get 0.5ppr, but i'll still take it.......again, wasn't thrilled with who was there, but i'm beginning to like the direction i went.
trade.....as soon as i pulled cj off the board, bloom offered me lendale/henry for edge, now normally when bloom sends me offers that i think make sense for me, i automatically decline, i dont trust myself against him.....i hesitated this time cause it just made tooo much sense....i took it and should be set 100% at rb 2 even in cj fails....at least thats what im telling myself

1.11 - Devin Thomas, WR, Redskins
I went into this draft recognizing that my WR's needed a talent infusion, and also that this draft offers good opportunity to do just that. I've got very good potential there (Demetrius Williams; Paul Williams; Jerry Porter; Chris Henry ( ), but outside of Colston I just don't have anyone who I can rely upon, week in and week out, to produce. Thomas has a great combination of speed, strength and agility, and he's going into a passing oriented offense. He should thrive.

Coming of a Championship*, I felt I could shake things up a bit.

I agree with this statement, although i did pass on him at 1.09. I was drafting for need and with SJax/Addai, I didn't feel the "need" for a 3rd RB. I "needed" a backup QB for Romo and I had Redman, so I considered Ryan the no brainer pick for me.

2.08 - Tavares Gooden, LB, Baltimore I went into this draft with three primary needs - at WR, at LB, and at backup QB. I addressed WR with my first pick, and with Mayo, Dizon and Lofton off the board, I had to grab one of the top LB's now or be left out in the cold. Also, Brohm (my favorite QB) was already taken, and I'm not a Flacco fan so LB was the move here. I like Gooden over Connor because while both enter as backups, Gooden is behind the elderly Ray Lewis and figures to be brought under RayRay's wing as a former Miami Hurricane to be mentored to take over the extremely valuable MLB job. He has limited value this year, but huge value going forward. 2.10 - Dan Connor, LB, Carolina Connor's here, but I don't love him. He's not an elite prospect and I worry about how much of his good rep is due to his pedigree rather than his actual abilities. He's also got a young stud ahead of him at MLB in Beason at the moment, unless they move Beason to WLB. I spent an hour going through the top WR's and I can't make any sense among the top six or so remaining WR's as to who leads out of that group (which includes Doucet, Nelson, Manningham, Simpson & Jackson, all of whom were drafted in the next six picks). I already have a bunch of young hopefuls at WR, so adding one more doesn't seem like a very good use of this pick. Highly drafted LB's also tend to put up numbers sooner than do WR's. via trade, I wound up with no 1st round picks and 4 picks in round 2.
my team should have won the title last year so it didn't need a lot of help, but I needed some help at RB mostly and on offense in general.
at 2.02, all the quality RBs I was interested in were gone and I didn't want to reach for one. There were plenty of WRs available but I didn't think the talent dropoff would be significant from this point to my next picks. I do have some older linebackers though and Jordan Dizon was clearly the best IDP available. In a league where you can start up to 4 LBs each week and they can score as much as some QBs, it was tough to pass on him, but I wound up going with Brian Brohm instead. I have Jon Kitna as my QB1 and Trent Edwards currently as my QB2 with guys like John Beck and JP Losman as wildcards. Kitna is old and may not hold onto the job for more than this year, while Edwards should be solid but doesn't really have a high fantasy upside. Brohm has top-10 potential and good QBs can be tough to find in a 16-team dynasty league so I decided to roll the dice and hope he takes over in Green Bay by the time Kitna's career is winding down in Detroit.
when it was my turn to pick at 2.12, I owned 3 of the next 4 selections so there were a lot of different ways I could go here. There was still some great value on the IDP side with players like Chris Long and Kenny Phillips sitting out there, but I feel pretty good about my DE group thanks to Jared Allen and Kyle Vanden Bosch. And, safeties aren't that tough to find on the waiver wire. The LB group had been depleted thanks to Redman and others so I didn't want to reach for a 3rd or 4th round talent just to try and fill a slight need. Hence, I turned my attention to offense. I have a pretty solid group of wideouts already but it never hurts to have extras there and that was where the best value was in the draft at this point. So, I took Jordy Nelson and Mario Manningham. Nelson projects as a big possession receiver in a west coast offense which should be valuable in a PPR league like this. Depending on what happens with Burress, I wouldn't be surprised to see Manninham as the WR1 for Eli Manning in a couple years. Both players represented high upside picks with relatively low risk, IMO. With my last 2nd round pick, having significantly improved my depth at QB and WR already, I took a flier on Steve Slaton. Houston has a crowded backfield but it also appears to be wide open. Slaton may not have the size or strength to ever become a feature back, but at a minimum, he can hopefully be a 3rd down and big-play threat in a promising offense. It basically came down to him or Chris Long for me and I went with the position that filled a bigger need and is much harder to find or expensive to acquire.
I only have 1 more pick in this draft in round 5 so I'm pretty much done. I'm pretty happy with the guys I got, although I don't expect any of them to contribute much this year.

Had to trade back into the 2008 draft by sending my #1 in 2009 and CB Chris Houston for Smith's #2 in 2009, the 3.03 (Dorsey) and WR Aundrae Allison. I just couldn't stand to see Dorsey fall any further than 3.03. He's "just" a DT...but he's going to be special and one of the very-best DTs in the NFL in very short order, and should post some nice tackles and sacks figures compared to others at his position. I am assuming I might have over-paid just a bit to move up to add Dorsey at 3.03 (saw him going in the 3.06-3.09 range), but for how dominant I think he can become at his position (and looking for ways to improve my overall starting line-up and FPs per week), I saw Dorsey as worth the price. There were at LEAST 7-8 players drafted in the previous 34 picks that I had rated lower than Dorsey on my board too...so either I'm completely
in my evaluation of players, or I just got myself a 8-10+ year starter and Top 5-7 player at his position.

I'm not a big fan of drafting DT's in rookie drafts, but it's clear that if you're going to do it, you do it on a guy like this. Sorry but I think you hosed yourself on that deal even if your 1st round pick ends up being 1.16

I took this team over in February when the previous owner left the league. The team won ONE game last year...and I really don't know how it even did that. This team was devoid of talent. So it's a full blown rebuild. At the time I took over, the only players that had serious value were Cutler, McGahee, Chad Johnson, Greg Olsen, and Patrick Willis. 15-20 players were barely rosterable. I did have 5 first round picks to start with. Obviously, I have my work cut out for me in a league of this caliber.
I made a few deals before the draft. These are the significant ones:
Trade #1:
I traded: RB Willis McGahee, 2008 pick 1.10, 2008 pick 1.12
Faletti traded: RB Brandon Jacobs, WR Dwayne Bowe, LB Thomas Howard
I was elated to get a young WR like Bowe, although I took a fairly steep hit at RB. I didn't mind moving the picks since I got 3 proven players in the deal. I was very happy with the result of this trade, as I added some badly needed young talent.
Trade #2:
I traded: WR Chad Johnson, LB Patrick Willis, 2008 picks 1.07, 2.07, 4.11, 5.15
Bachman traded: WR Larry Fitzgerald, DE Mario Williams, LB Adalius Thomas, 2008 picks 2.14, 4.01
This was a deal that took a lot of time to finalize. Bachman really wanted Willis and that is how this trade started. It ended with me trading quite a bit to land Fitzgerald. While I think Chad is an elite WR, he is 30 years old. That isn't old now, but this team is not good and by the time it is, Chad will not have a lot of trade value, so I decided to look two years from now and like my end of the deal. Willis was very tough to part with. Elite LBs are not easy to find, but I think elite DEs like Mario Williams are even harder to find. Basically, it cost me the difference between Willis/1.07 and Mario to go from Chad to Fitz. Looking long-term, this deal made sense for me.
After two deals, I have two stud WRs under 25 years old.

I traded: LB Thomas Howard, S Ken Hamlin, 2008 pick 4.01
Rodrigues traded: LB Anthony Waters, 2008 pick 1.15

This was basically Howard for the 1.15, with some pieces added. I wanted to get into the first round to add some offensive talent. I can get a LB2 type like Howard once my team is better, and I felt the pick was more valuable to my rebuild.
So as I enter the draft, I have the 1.01, 1.05, 1.15, 2.14 and 3.07 to work with. I have Cutler at QB, Jacobs at RB, Fitz and Bowe at WR, Olsen at TE, and Mario Williams at DE. That is the core that I will build around.

I normally wouldn't have made a move like that either, but:1. Our scoring system heavily rewards big plays such as sacks for D-Lineman, and2. Dorsey is no "ordinary" DT. He was the best player in the 2008 NFL Draft, IMHO, and has freakishly good athleticism and skills which will have him putting up very un-DT-like numbers.But yeah, I expected at LEAST a little abuse for making the move to get Dorsey. Heck, moving up for a DT (or even DRAFTING a DT) goes against about 80-90% of how I have played in the past. However, those two items above compelled me to make the move. I don't plan on having my pick be anywhere near the top 8-10 OA next year...and I'm not sure that anyone I could have drafted at "1.10" or "1.12" would have had any more of an impact on my line-up and FPPG more than Dorsey will...and I've got a second rounder to use to boot! Time will tell though, as you could just as easily be right too...

I guess I would respond to your take in a couple of ways:1. How does a stud and every-week starter at one position have less value than a RB4-5 or WR5-6 who may or may not ever take the field in a team's line-up?2. I think you are undervaluing the importance of defensive linemen in our league's scoring system...particularly when it comes to sacks, fumbles, tackles, etc.

My team sucked last year...suck is an understatement really.
Maroney hosed me all year. Not to mention none of my WR's panning out other than Roddy White and my TE missed like half the season (Heap).
So, I was more than willing to dump maroney off on Connie* for his 1.13 and 1.16 pick and Alge Crumpler. Along with my 1.4 pick I turned those 3 picks into:
1.4 - Matt Forte (I need someone that can start producing A.S.A.P at RB. I was glad to take him here. I've also had man love for him since the Senior bowl)
1.13 - Limas Sweed (I needed WR help and Sweed will start off the season no worse than 3rd on the depth chart. Hines Ward is always getting injured lately. I was hoping Devin Thomas would fall to me here but I'm happy with either)
1.16 - Jerod Mayo (Another guy that should contribute right away. I trust Belichek to make players out of guys and Belichek thought highly enough of him to take him with the 10th pick overall.)
I didn't have any more picks until the 4th round until Connie* traded me his 2.9, 4.1, 4.15, 5.14, and 2009 3rd for my 2009 1st. I figured as bad as my team was I needed the plethora of picks instead of my 2009 1st.
So I took that 2.9 pick and turned it into Flacco to sit behind Brees.
And now I sit with 5 picks in the 4th round with plenty of talent on the board.

I entered the draft with the 1.01, 1.05, 1.15, 2.14 and 3.07.
1.01 RB Jonathan Stewart: Simply put, I think he is the most talented of the top 3 RBs, is the most likely to be a 300 carry full time RB, and plays for a coach who likes to pound the rock. I will say the top 3 are fairly even.
1.05 RB Kevin Smith: Much as the top 3 are pretty even, so are the tier 2 RBs. I think Smith is every bit as talented as the others in this group and he is more suited to carry the load. The Lions new zone blocking scheme seems tailor made for Smith. He is easily in the best situation of this years class of RB. I see the talent level to be close in this tier, so situation was the tiebreaker for me.
1.15 TE Dustin Keller: First, this league has TE friendly scoring, which is why TEs go early. Keller is the only TE that I like in this draft other than a couple of later round fliers, and I think he is a future top 10 fantasy TE.
My next pick was the 2.14 and I was not planning on trading up considering how many holes this team had. But opportunity knocked and I answered the door. Rodrigues was shopping the 2.06 and there was one player who I thought was wqorth moving up for, so I move up 8 spots from my 2.14 to his 2.06, and it cost me the 3.07.
2.06 WR Earl Bennett: I like Bennett a lot and he may be in the best situation of all WRs in this draft with the possible exception of James Hardy. He was the last WR in the tier that I liked and then I personally see a big dropoff, so I decided to make the move up. an 8 spot move from the 2.14 to the 2.06 was well worth a mid 3rd.
I am not sitting with only the 5.04, but I made one last move, trading LB Calvin Pace for the 3.06. I think Pace will be a solid LB2/3 type, but I decided I'd rather grab another offensive prospect, knowing that I can find LBs like him at a later time when my team will be a contender. My objective in the early stages of a rebuild is to secure some offensive prospects and, if available, elite IDPs.
3.06 WR Andre Caldwell: Much like Bennett, Caldwell was the end of this tier of WRs and I feel his upside was well worth trading Pace.
At this time, my key players are:

Without a doubt, this has been the fastest draft, regardless of size, I have ever participated in.
I have another 16 team draft similar to this one coming up on Friday (only difference is it is 7 rounds vice 5) and I can guarantee you it will take a month!
I dread my 32 team draft that is coming up as well.
