Reggie Brown vs. NYJ (1 Viewer)

I know saying something vs. doing something is completely different, but Reggie Brown owners (if there are any left), have to be atleast somewhat optimistic about the recent quotes out of Philly:

Oct 13 Les Bowen, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports Philadelphia Eagles WR Reggie Brown and QB Donovan McNabb say they are both on the same page now. Brown has just eight catches for 81 yards through the team's first four games. Brown was asked if he and McNabb had talked during the Bye Week, and if he thought they were in a better place moving forward. "I think so. It's easy to be on the same page in practice. We're going to have to go out here and see if we can get something going - hopefully we can get something going early against the Jets, get into a groove and progress from there," Brown said. McNabb said he has talked about getting the coaches to include Brown more in the game plan. "You want to have plays created for him. I've pushed for it, and I'm sure he's pushed for it. I think it's important for all our guys to get involved early [in games]. When you get everybody involved early, it takes a lot of pressure off the offensive line . . . that's something we've all talked about. We've spent some time together this week, and it's just something I've thought about during the bye week, what we can do to alleviate some of the pressure on the o-line," McNabb said.

Potential good start vs. the porous NYJ defense?

I like what I'm hearing because Brown's value has nowhere to go but up. That doesn't mean I'm ready to plug him into my lineup in place of Chad Johnson or Donald Driver at WR or Portis at my flex spot.

but there's likely plenty of guys who might have to roll with him.

I would guess 4-7 pass targets for anywhere from 2-5 catches, yardage range of 30-70 yards. Expecting anything else with Westbrook, Kevin Curtis and the likely return of LJ Smith would be quite a reach.

He was on my waiver wire. I picked him up in hopes that Philly will get him involved. The passing game has been terrible and the chances are it'll get going at some point. Reggie is the unquestioned #1 so you have to think they'll look to him to help the passing game.

That said, no way I'd start him this week, unless you are ok with getting 2 points. 2 or 15, hope for the 15 and new life but know 2 is more likely based on past games this year.

If you have R. Brown on your bench, and are thinking of starting him, this is the week you want to do it. Why? Well, I had him in my line-up for the first 4 weeks prior to his bye week. I know, why would I do that? I had terrible depth at WR and my league has no waiver moves for several weeks at a time. Anyways, I am benching him this week for a newly aquired WR, so I'm sure he'll have a day similar to Kevin Curtis' outing week 3. Start Brown with confidence this week while he explodes on my bench.

How reliable are any of the Philly options right now? That said they always seem to find a way to turn things around. I may play him over Northcutt. I'd still like to see him do something first.

I scooped him off the scrap heap. I think he gets it turned around at some point. McNabb has now had two more weeks to rehab and get healthier. He's been playing hurt. Westbrook is back now, as is Smith. I just see this offense turning it around.

What is so different from last season when Brown was in the top 30? Some offensive line injuries I suppose.

I thought about picking R.Brown off the wire, but opted for M. Booker instead. If you need a bye week filler, I suppose you could do worse than R. Brown, but his early season vanishing act would concern me a great deal.

The article doesn't mention the biggest problem Brown has. He's not getting the ball because he can't overcome the physical contact at the line of scrimmage. He's pudding soft against this defensive technique and then can't get into his routes at the correct spots to receive the ball. He might be a good start against the NYJ defense because they are so bad. It was speculated that the Jets will not try to jam the Philly receivers because they typically prefer to play off the receivers. Whether they make an adjustment after seeing past game tape of Philly's WR struggling when they get jammed, who knows. For me, Brown is an ok start if you are in a jam this week, but I wouldn't count on him for a big or even a solid game. It's possible that Brown could have a good game this week but there is no reason, based on the rest of the season, to think he will. So, I'd say start him in a jam, just don't expect much.

I feel like this is a good matchup for the Eagles to jumpstart their season. This Jets D has been pretty generous to the opposing team's WR1's and WR2's. (since we still don't have 100% concensus whether Reggie Brown or Kevin Curtis is Philly's #1 right now)Week 1:Randy Moss 9/183/1Wes Welker 6/61/1Week 2:Todd Heap 7/76/1 (I know, he's a TE, but basically Raven's #1/2 receiving option with Derrick Mason right now, or pre-concussion)Derrick Mason 8/54/0Week3:Chris Chambers 6/101/0Ronnie Brown 6/99/1Marty Booker 5/60/0 (in case you want to argue Ronnie Brown is a RB and shouldn't count)Week 4:Lee Evans 6/72/0Josh Reed 4/64/0Week 5:Plaxico Burress 5/124/1Jeremy Shockey 2/33/1A couple of observations.1) In PPR leagues every opponent's top 2 receiving options in the game cracked double-digits.2) 6 of the 10 players got a TD.3) This one may be slightly wishful thinking, but looking at that list I noticed that Lee Evans and Todd Heap had by far their best games of the season against the Jets, and Chris Chambers had one of their best 2 games (respectively)4) Continuing along the lines of noticing inexplicable trends. Todd Heap, Chris Chambers, and Lee Evans basically pulled disappearing acts to a degree after their games against the Jets. Heap - followed his game with 4/64/0 and 4/40/0. (not bad, but... from a tier-2 ranked TE pre-season I would've expected more) Then out last week. Evans - no need to beat a dead horse hereChambers - 2/21/0 and 2/19/0.Personally I am going to go with Reggie Brown this week in the leagues where I am having bye-week problems as my WR3 and hoping for some respectable production, and then plug my regular starters back into the lineup next week. If he blows up I may still sit him since they face Chicago next weekend. I'm hoping he goes off this weekend for something like 6/120/2 and then trade him for a more reliable WR2 to some owners that tends to get overexctied over one game.-Steve

He's still sitting there in one of mine, as well. I actually like his chances today against a soft Jets D. Again, don't get your hopes up, but the potential for a 6 catch, 70 yards and a TD-type day is there. Feelin' lucky? Roll the dice. There are worse options out there, for sure.....
