Reggie Bush in a redraft (1 Viewer)

Reggie is having an ok NFL season, but really seems kind of useless to this point as a fatasy back. I know the Saints are using him as a decoy some, but you don;t get points for that.

Given the Saints much better than expected start, and that Deuce looks better than many people thought he would, what do people expect from Reggie from here on out? Will his numbers go up, could he be a buy low guy? Or is what we are seeing so far what we can expect for the year?

I would take Maroney ahead of Bush..no ifs ands or buts.

Reggie is a product of the NFL hype machine..ala Mike Vick. both decent players, but nowhere near the top at their positions.

I'm in two 14-team leagues, one .5ppr the other 0ppr. In the non-ppr, traded him before last week in package deal for Bell (other owner thought he was getting the better back....).

I still have him in my .5ppr and will treat him until further notice as a rb3 (only bc I have better backs ahead of him; imo, he is a still a legit rb2 in ppr).

In non-ppr, I would try to move him after his first big game. In ppr, I'd hold him, as he currently is putting up lower-tier rb2 numbers, which could improve.

Also, I think that the attention Bush has been getting by defenses as a rookie is unprecedented. They compltely focus on him like nothing I have ever seen for a guy who has yet to do anything in the NFL.

IMO, defenses are going to start backing off this stance and treating him more as a "normal" RB, at which point he should start to improve.

That's not really my question thoughMaroney is not a buy low candidate at all, he's been doing well

This is a good question. I highly doubt that he will regress. So, if you assume that he will start hitting the smaller NFL holes with the same speed that he shows on wide open plays, he should improve. Now, to buy low means that the current owner doesn't believe that he will get better as the season progresses.... and I'm not sure you will find many of those situations.

I sold.

If it helps your decision any I actually traded him for Chad Johnson. (R.Bush/R.Smith - C. Johnson/W. Welker)

While it wasn't exactly selling high, I couldn't pass up the chance to buy low on Johnson since Bush was already on the bench. I still believe he's got some good games in him this season, but just won't see the spotlight consistently enough.

I think he is at his floor right now, so he's a good buy low candidate. I've found him to be a solid #2 option in PPR leagues, he leads all RBs in receptions and I don't see any reason for that to change.

With all the hype, he will never hit bottom. You can find a fair deal for him, but you aren't gonna get him cheap. People who drafted him early (like me, in the 3rd) will have a tough time giving him up.Although I did juts give him up in a package to get Peyton.

Since the thread asks about redraft leagues, I'd say he's useless, with the possible exception being very large, ppr leagues.

Obviously, in a keeper league, his value greatly improves, since he seems like an intelligent guy who will eventually learn how to run the ball from scrimmage.

His only shot of having value this year was if McAllister's recovery was slow, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Teams are starting to catch on and they are now taking bush out of the passing game... he will prob get his 4 rec/30 yds a game, but don't expect the 7 or 8 he caught his first 2 games...

I disagree. In my non-PPR league, he is currently RB33. Not tearing up the place, but hardly useless. If you believe that he will eventually find the end zone, there is no reason to think that he wouldn't end up in the top 25, which would put him at the end of RB2, beginning of RB3 for most leagues.

I am actually considering dropping Reggie Bush. I don't think his numbers will improve much as long as Duece is playing. NO offense is playing well, so there is no compelling reason for Payton to change Bush's role.

We are in an 8 team redraft (actually have 2 teams with the NFC and AFC separate), no points for receptions. Already have Alexander, Gore, Chester Taylor, and Thomas Jones and I need the roster spot for a 2nd Defense.

I start Bush most weeks as my flex (SJax, Jordan, CTaylor, Bush and Drew), he's the #16 RB. PPR and return pts. In this format, he's fairly valuable.

I traded Bush last week for Boldin.

Edited to add: 12 team, non ppr, redraft

Very true. If your league gives you his return yardage, he is a viable starter.

IMHO you still have too small a sample size to make any reasonable judgment on Bush's future.

However, based on his performance this year so far, I would say you look for other options.

Deuce McAllister has a YPR which is 25% more than Bush behind the same line/ scheme/ system.

Deuce McAllister has a YPC which is equivalent to Bush.

Deuce has found the End Zone numerous times and will barring an injury he will have double-digit TD's.

Deuce has 13 carries of 1 yard or less in 64 attempts; that about 20% of the time he touches the ball.

Bush has 17 carries of 1 yard or less in 44 attempts; that's nearly 40% of the time he touches the ball and twice as often as Deuce!

Also, Bush has not busted a long run since the first exhibition game. Bush has not figured the NFL game out yet; I'm not saying he is the next Ron Dayne type of bust, but ...

Jerious Norwood of Atlanta has 4 times the number of rushes of 10 yards or more [8 to 2], and Norwood has a YPR 8.3. That's 2.6 times the YPR of Bush.

You can say that he is an effective decoy all you want, but at some point Reggie has to start producing ...

Just moved him for Andre Johnson. PPR league, the guy has mcallister. he's stacked at wr and i'm stacked at rb, so the trade made sense for both of us.
