Reggie Williams wins starting WR job (1 Viewer)

Based on this, what is his value? WR3, WR4?? Projected stats??From KFFL:

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Reggie Williams has won the starting job at wide receiver although the team will wait and see how he handles the job in the coming weeks. Williams could have another good week this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who may not be able to handle the heat in Jacksonville and could wear down.

Don't worry Matt Jones owner. Jones aint gonna get the bench!

Wilford is listed as the #3 WR on the depth chart, so I'm assuming that Williams won the job over Wilford. Matt Jones is listed as their WR1.

The Jags started the season with 3 starting wr's..M.Jones Wilford and R.williams..what this report is trying to say is that Williams is now #2 Jones #1 and Wilford #3 with the possibility of starting only 2 wide outs in most games now. :bye:

I also thought it was mentioned prior to week 1 that all three would start.
There are some 3 WR sets, but they typically only start 2 WR's.This is somewhat of a surprise because during preseason, their head coach said that Reggie Williams would have no fantasy value because he was the #3 WR - I guess that was to motivate him...

If it says "although the team will wait and see how he handles the job in the coming weeks" how can anyone gauge his value at this stage or project his stats? One bad game and he's right back to WR3. I wouldn't drop any major players to get him -- maybe not even Wilford.

The depth charts are fine, and I think it's designed to reward both Williams and Wiford, but the game book for last weekend looked like this:

not that it matters to anyone... but i droped Burleson for him this week.

I saw the game against Dallas... and he was definately a big part of the offense (including 2 red zone targets)... it looks like they'll use him as a possesion reciever of sorts and spread the field w/ Jones and Wilford.... maybe he's taking of the X (or is it Y?) reciever spot that Smith vaccated? homers?

I'm not expecting much from ANY of the Jax wr's this game vs Pitt.

In fact, I'm considering benching M.Jones and start Drew Bennett instead this wk.

i noticed toward the end of the cowboys game last week when they went with 2 receivers that it was Matt Jones and Reggie. the #1 spot is still up for grabs there. it's going to be interesting to see who finally rises to the top. Reggie is definitely going to get better, can the former QB keep up?

Was real close to picking Reggie up, but I really see it as being WRBC in Jax, unless one of those guys goes down. They seem to be all of equitable talent, so its really hard to differentiate them.

I do think that if either Reggie or Jones gets hurt, and Wilford starts as the big posession guy, the non-injured of Reggie-Jones could easily put up JSmith #s.

Caoch-speak, that's all it was.Can we all forget about Ernest Wilford now?

WRBC

Leftwich loves to spread the ball around. And keep in mind, Marcedes Lewis did not play last week and should play this week and that will spread it even thinner. Mo Drew should also be worked into the passing game more. On any given week any of the 3 WRs could lead the Jags in target and/or production.

Little frustrated at Del Rio because of this change since I cut Williams loose in the preseason in a contract league where I had him cheap for three years... Guess I'll pick him back up but only for this season now... That'll sting...

Props to this FBG, I think he put this out in July:

Chris Smith - The uninformed fantasy owner this year is going to assure that Ernest Wilford will take the spot of Jimmy Smith but by all accounts this off-season it is Reggie Williams who has elevated to the WR1 spot on the Jaguars team. The former 1st round pick has great size and good hands but that hasn't translated to on-field success. He is still young however and he has a great chance of exceeding his current draft position by a large amount.

So are you suggesting that Reggie Williams will be the #1 WR over Matt Jones?? If so, I'm picking him up IMMEDIATLEY!!

:goodposting: Good call mentioning Mercedes, who hasn't seen the field yet, but is a 1st round draft pick that the team is obviously very high on.

from the game last week it looked like 1a and 1b

Good point here - he would've had a second TD late in the game if it wasn't for the deflection by one of Dallas' linemen. Williams was about as open over the middle as you can possibly be from that close. Based on what I saw in that game (I only saw maybe 30-40 minutes of the game) I picked Williams up - I'm not starting him this week but if he continues to produce he'll get in the starting line-up.

someone in my 12 team league dropped Lee Evans. Time to drop wilford and grab evans.

I think Williams looked good during Week 1 and hope he will continute to improve. I still think that Jones will be the #1 WR by the end of the season.

Would any of you drop Wilford for Reggie at this point? I could also drop Jennings at GB but think his upside is still high as a #2 in GB.

i dropped wilford for reggie (after looking at targets and red zone targets)....Jennings could also be cuttable -with koren robinson signing (keep an eye on if they will suspend - if they won't suspend soon - drop jennings for some more upside on your team, if they suspend right away - hang on to him....

Having trouble believing so many are dropping Wilford. I really like his upside and playmaking ability. One mediocre game doesn't worry me much at all. Obviously I'd take Lee Evans over him, but Jericho Cotchery? No thanks, not yet... he has much to prove still (and I own him in one of my two leagues).

I'll give Wilford a couple more games before considering scrapping him, and I like his odds of coming through (and holding a spot on my team).

It does seem like some people are putting too much stock into one week. Reggie looked good, but you can't just ignore what Wilford did last season. I can't see any reason to drop Wilford for Williams or Williams for Wilford for that matter. I'd give Matt Jones a slight edge over Williams and Wilford. I expect all three will end up in this range:65-85 catches, 700-1000 yards, 6-9 TD

I pretty much agree with you here, but I think in the end you will see some variation 1-3, with maybe a 1a-1b and #3 split. The question is who gets what, but as of now I see Reggie Williams having a chance to get close to Jones' numbers and Wilford lagging a bit behind. The names might be changed but figure:M Jones 75 Catches 950 yards 8 TDsR Williams 70 Catches 900 yards 6 TDsE Wilford 60 Catches 750 yards 4 TDsAgain, the names are somewhat interchangeable as we have to see how things work out, but I personally think you will have two taht are close and one a little behind. I just cant yet figure out who will have what role re: deep threat, red zone targets, possession guy.

Interestingly enough, FBGs rankings have Wilford quite close to Jones on their latest rankings for the week, with R Williams considerably further down the list.

Wilford has been overrated around here for quite a while. I still say Matt Jones is the best JAX WR to have long-term, but they all have value.

just read that MattJones was recently added to the injury list b/c of a groin injury..

also it looks like ND has been reading their press-clipping b/c they did not come out to play today..

That's because FBG's  Wilford. They should get a room.

So, is it clear that Reggie Williams is now the Jags #1 WR? He lead their WRs in week one, and is leading them again tonight with 6 catches for 48 yards - nothing impressive, but clearly their #1 WR again...

Thoughts?

Thought he looked solid...still seems slow, but found ways to get open. If he gets a little stronger and starts breaking tackles he could be a real force.
