Restaurant Talk (1 Viewer)

I am likely going to be in Cinci over the summer for a weekend. Anyone have any restaurant recommendations there? I am open to any range from local dive with flavor to upscale.

I may be a little biased, but this place is in my backyard

Just typing about it has my mouth watering

That place is terrible.  My suggestion is to not go there and create longer lines for the fools that eat there.

I’m going to Rome with my family this summer; never been and very excited. I would like to make reservations in advance for a “classic” but expensive fine dining experience. Anyone know anything about this?
So am I. When are you going? I know you don't corn hole, just curious.

Anybody in or around Charlotte, NC?  There was a dive bar called Lupe’s (I think spelled correctly) that specialized in chili, Texas and Cincinnati styles, that was just the bomb back in the day.  My bro and I would always convene there prior to going and seeing his theater buddies on stage.  I remember one time getting a 50/50 split of the two styles then going to see Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile, both were great

BTW if any FBG plans a trip to San Diego hit me up for thoughts, ideas, info about the local food & beer scene. I'm an encyclopedia of information  and am happy to help. And, if I'm in a good mood I'll invite you to the only Michelin Star quality food spot south of Los Angeles; Chaka's Kitchen.

Not sure where you'll be staying so here goes from a west sider now living on the east side:

High rent: Anything Jeff Ruby's is legit (he has a number of them in the city- PM if interested)- at least that's what everyone says. Too high rent for me. $100 dinner for two easily and that's cheap

Mexican: Mazunte's  off Red Bank road is where I go if I want Mexican. Dude spent a decade+ traveling through Mexico and central america staying in peoples houses learning how to cook. Brought it all back home and is KILLING it.

A good Reuben: Izzy's is the place, since Decent Deli is no more... They don't toast their bread but the proportions are right if you're hungry. I've had better reubens, but you won't walk outta this place hungry. Potato pancakes are pretty solid as well.

Burger Joints: This is where it can get testy, and I really like the hole in the wall places here: I love Sammy's in Blue Ash. Good variety of burgers and the excellent beer selection offers a number of local breweries so that's a huge plus. You'll get the suggestions of Terry's turf club which is legit and an experience for sure, but I've heard he's closing up shop soon so make sure you check.  Also on the east side and a hole in the wall is Bones Burgers- these guys are a little hippy dippy for me with their all grass fed beef and whatnot, but they make one hell of a burger. And their homemade ketchup is money!!! There's also Gordo's in Norwood. Really close to Xavier University, but is a complete dive. 1930's gorgeous wooden bar, with indoor/outdoor seating. Nice selection of traditional and unusual burgers. I don't recommend the PB&J burger- but that's just me.

Depending on where you're at I might be able to help you out with some closer options. Northern KY has a number of really cool places, but I simply haven't been.

Give me the straight tartar like Frisch's or Tolly Ho
Never heard of it.  Looked it up - those cheddar tots look pretty damn good.
unfortunatley they will not deliver to milwaukee so i will never know how good the chedar tots are so please post a detailed report when you have one for the rest of us living in chedar tot wastelands take that to the bank bromigo

Has to be Macy's. Former mob hangout too.
That was it! We were passing through and thought about Packos but we decided we wanted a steak. Wife googled Toledo and steak and that’s where we ended up. Mob back in the Capone days or 70’s/80’s?

Enlighten me. We have enjoyed our times at his restaurants (Cincy, Louisville and Columbus).
During the Drew Peterson Trial: This guy shows up at the Will County Courthouse,  which is 300+ miles away from Cincinnati,  and sits in the front row of the public seating of the court room. Ends up getting thrown out of the court room because he was mouthing expletives to Peterson like some wannabe tough guy.

When questioned about it outside of the court house, by the press, he had himself conveniently positioned in front his branded tour bus, which was parked right in front in the first place, proclaiming himself to be a 'defender of the innocent' or some BS like that . While he has probably taken up a good cause or 3 during his time, all I saw was a publicity whore milking the spotlight provided by a dead woman and that image has stuck.

In between, but more the latter than the former.  Popular place for Cleveland Mafia to rendezvous with the Chicago Outfit.
