Just saw on ESPNnews....per Mort, Ricky signed an extension through 2009

Sorry, no link yet, but interesting....

I'm curious about the amount
I have been searching high and low for more information. The espn text notifications have never been a bum steer before but I am not finding anything. Anyone else at least get the same message?

They only offered him an extension after Bill Parcells tried to lure Curtis Martin, Dave Meggett and Adrian Murrell out of retirement, but they turned him down.

The Miami Dolphins have signed Ricky Williams to a one-year contract extension through the 2009-10 season, a source close to the veteran running back said.

The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Saturday that there was no signing bonus, but Williams' salary increases significantly over this year's base of $730,000.

The Miami tailback can increase his 2008 compensation with easily achievable incentives, the source said. Williams, 31, was scheduled to be a free agent in '09.

Maybe this is more of a story of Ronnie brown's knee. Seems with all the rebuilding that they could just as easily have drafted a RB next year and let ricky go after the season.

Nice story. What a crazy beginning (and middle) to his career. Maybe he can salvage some respectability. Good for you, Ricky.

I also think this puts Ronnie Brown on notice that the team is ready to move forward regardless of his condition. I know that's always how it is...but this has to make him feel like other plans are already being made. Could be a motivator.

I think ricky has become what is know as a "parcells guy". He works hard and speaks his mind to bill and co which parcells respects. I think it also means that ronnie may be another piece of the rebuilding puzzle around here in next years' offseason (pamalee will get a chance to show wht he can do over this year)

The Mia brass seem to have taken a shine to Ricky...
Yeah. First the Ronnie Brown is on the trading block rumor from Mort and now this.I think anyone banking on Brown this year or next is going to be severely disappointed. He's looking more and more like the Julius Jones part of the Julius-MBIII equation.

The Dolphins could have just used Ricky up in the first half of the year without rewarding him with an extension.

Hard to believe Ricky would ride the bench in Weeks 7 and higher just because "Ronnie's back!".

Also hard to believe that he wouldn't maintain majority of carries imho.

Brown is recovering so its easy to be down on him, but speculating that his career has taken a permanent turn south (such as Julius Jones) and that the Dolphins will marginalize him is entirely premature. He looks 80% through August. The Dolphins have not indicated anything about the future. Ricky Williams has to hold up carrying the heavier load in September. This might be one of the most run heavy teams in the league anyway, and both backs would be needed, esp. considering that both have a spotty history.

Congrats to Ricky. Redemption stories are always nice to see, and he's gained some measure of redemption with one of the biggest hard-asses in the NFL, Parcells.

I stand by my prediction that Ronnie Brown is wearing another uniform in a year.
