Ridley not at practice (1 Viewer)

Knee injury for Ridley. No indication of seriousness, but it might be why he has been limited or why Blount got so many totes on Sunday
Seriously, owning a Pats RB as a position approach could mean having Ridley, Blount, Bolden and Vereen. It's ridiculous.

Now, even if two RBs out (assume, let's just say) you really don't know who will get chances, Blount or Boden.

I could see Blount getting the early down work, and Bolden on 3rd downs. Just a guess, but knowing their coach, Ridley will be back at practice tomorrow with no signs of injury.

Let's say that they hypothetically split Ridleys 12.5 touches per game, they could both see 15ish touches easy.

I picked up Bolden and Blount the last couple weeks. Last week Bolden got the first goal line attempt at one point, so it seems awfully unpredictable. I may try to trade both to the Ridley owner...

Well, this is what I think on it. 1st of all, I do not think that New England has given up on Ridley. However, I do think that between Bolden and Vereen being injury prone last year, there was just so much more work for him to take. Bolden and Vereen still seem like they get dinged, but you have a new factor in Blount. I have never been all that impressed with Blount, but who knows. I did go ahead and trade for Ridley because I think he is a great back. Plus, I think things will change once the road grader gets back in the lineup. It is ridiculous how much better the run game is with Gronk in there. I think that a lot of Ridley's work last year was a result of the leads that were built by the 4th qtr. We saw Blount get that work in Atlanta game, but the knee could be the reason. I am still willing to bank on better days ahead for Ridley. His yards per carry have improved over the last 3 weeks. I think that his benching in the first game may have sapped some of his confidence, and he seems to be getting it back. Hopefully, 15-17 touches will be his new norm, and with that, he should be able to make some noise

Great, means he will be ready for his 43 total yards and no TDs on Sunday.

Nick Underhill of MassLiveSports reports Stevan Ridley was held out of Wednesday's practice due to a thigh bruise, and the injury "is not considered serious."
MassLive isn't the Globe or Herald, but it's a reliable outlet and we've noticed Underhill doing good work for the site and on Twitter. Per Underhill, Ridley was simply shelved Wednesday because he spent the day getting treatment. Ridley did not noticeably suffer an injury in last Sunday night's win over Atlanta. It appears he should be all systems go for Week 5 at Cincinnati.

This whole situation is a mess. I have Bolden, non ppr, but not sure this situation is worth a roster spot much longer...

In PPR, Bolden is the Pats RBs to hold until Vereen gets back. In standard scoring, I wouldn't want any Pats RB at this point. What a mess.

All I can tell you is he has a bruise above his knee and below his waste. The rest is pure speculation.

Yikes. Blount train warming up . . .
Despite the fact that he looked like he was running in mud earlier in the season, he's looked pretty good over the past two weeks, averaging 5.6 YPC. If he steals even half of Ridleys workload (12.5) he can easily get 15-20 touches on the ball this week. At 5.6 YPC, that could be a very productive outing. Too bad he's facing CIN, however.

This looks like a mess right now, but my bet is that the situation becomes crystal clear once Vereen is healthy enough to take the field.

I'm no Vereen bandwagon driver, and I think guys like Blount and Ridley can still have roles limiting upside, but seems so far Vereen has the ability to be the main down back in this system for the Pats to lean on into the playoff run.

Given the mess this backfield is in terms of no one stepping up and owning the role, the opportunity is there for Vereen at the very least.

Week 1 Forte had 91 total yards and a TD against Cinn.

Week 3 Packers RB's had 158 total yards and a TD against Cinn.

Week 4 Cleveland RB's had 123 total yards and a TD against Cinn.

Only week Cinncy "shut down" opposing RB's was week 2 against Pittsburgh,pre-Bell.

If Ridley is out,Blount makes a VERY nice play.imop.

I'm no pats fan, but Blount has looked pretty decent running the ball this season, no?

Preseason, he scored that 50yd TD, and did just about the same last week.

We're talking Blount here... that's unheard of. He must be dedicating himself pretty hard to fitness to be making runs like that. amazing what a shot at a SB does for motivation

Blount looked like the best RB against Atlanta, at least late in the game. It's hard to say if he would get the official start, but I see him doing some damage if he gets 12-15 carries.

I'm a big Blount fan/apologist, but he only had 4 runs in the 4th quarter. The first was for a 47 yard TD. The next three went for -1, 1, 0. Just trying to be fair here. I am not so secretly hoping he gets the start, although even if he does, playing @ CIN is not a great time to get your debut.

Just click mute and then watch

He definitely has a lot of potential, and the fact he had value as a starting RB on a worse team comes to mind as well. If Ridley is out, I almost have to pick this guy up even if it's to block my opponent from getting him.

Blount has earned the right (and more importantly, likely earned Coach Belichick's trust) to get more carries if Ridley is absent from the lineup, and I am not sure Bolden is healthy enough to take on a more significant role at this time. Perhaps Bolden is. Information out of NE has always been difficult to decipher. I do know that Bill Belichick doesn't care two cents about my fantasy lineup, and he is about as unpredictable as anyone out there.

Very fun highlight reel to watch. Backs like that aren't as successful in the recent incarnation of the NFL, but there can always exceptions. I think Blount can be an effective running back with a line that can open holes for him. Many assume because he's a large back, that he's a GL or short yardage guy. He's best when he has space to get up to full speed in the open field. Once that happens, his momentum is incredibly difficult to stop. It's looking like it was a very smart move for New England to bring this guy in for the price they got him at. Their line is conducive for his strengths. A Ridley, Vereen, Blount trio (w/ Bolden as a backup/utility guy) looks like it could be a force going forward for New England.

As a Pats homer and admittedly biased Bolden owner, I think if Ridley's out Bolden will benefit more than Blount. I've watched every Pats game and I'm left with the impression that Belichick wants Bolden to play a big role. Soon as Bolden was ready to play in week 3 he was the guy in the backfield to start the game, and was heavily involved all game. Bolden has been the guy who trots onto the field around the goal line. Bolden has been used a bunch in the passing game. Again, I'm biased, but I paid quite a bit for Bolden after watching his first game back. I wouldn't be shocked at all if he takes over as their #1 RB with Ridley and Blount having secondary roles, and Vereen contributing whenever he returns. Blount is great when they want to kill the clock, and he may bust through in garbage time, but Bolden is far more versatile and a great fit for the Pats offense. Just my two cents.

There have only been 2 goal line carries this year. The first one was given to Vereen after Ridley was benched in week 1. The second was given to Ridley in week 4. Bolden has gotten zero carries inside the 5 yard line.

This is music to my ears.

Huh? Bolden got one just last week.

Bolden got the first shot last week and was stopped short, but for some reason they went back to Ridley after the review. Not sure why BB didn't let Bolden try to get it again, it's not like he went backwards on the first play.

Fair point, but you're focusing strictly on "goal line carries", as opposed to personnel on the field around the goal line including pass plays which is what I meant. (I'm not sure how to look up that stat) Also, Bolden has only played the last two games so he wasn't available for the first of those two gl looks. I'm not implying he's a goal line back per se, just that I think Belichick likes his versatility around the goal line versus someone like Blount who screams run play. I can't remember if Bolden's goal line play last week was a run or pass.

It's not a fair point because it's completely inaccurate.

Don't mind him, he's just an uninformed troll.

1st and 3 at ATL 3 B.Bolden left end for 3 yards, TOUCHDOWN. The Replay Assistant challenged the runner broke the plane ruling, and the play was REVERSED. B.Bolden left end to ATL 1 for 2 yards (D.Trufant).
