"Oh My", he passed away at the age of 82.  It is suspected he died of a heart attack, because his bags were packed by the door and he was waiting on a ride to the airport.  His was supposed to meet up with this wife but never showed.

He was one of my favorite announcers in the 70s and 80s.

I knew he was a Chippewa but didn’t know he was valedvictorian.
Just looked it up to verify the year. Not listed on his Wikipedia profile but I’ve seen it noted in several CMU programs over the years.

I saw him speak at some booster dinner event (Chippewa Club or sumtin my uncle belonged to) after they won the 1974 D-II National football title. They were moving up to D-1 the next year & the 1974-75 basketball team went to the NCAAs in their first year. I was 12. Pretty dumb reasons to pick a school but I was a Chip for life after that.

Anyway he was famous but not big time at that point - it was right before he joined NBC. He gave a great speach, and stuck around forever talking one on one to anybody who wanted to bend his ear in the way out. Made a huge impression on me - never forget where you came from, give back when you have the chance because it’s really a privilege to be a blessing to others.
