RIP Robin Williams (1 Viewer)

not that I care but any chance you should try and the erotic asphyxiation
yeah. no idea what you've just written, but yeah.
oh my that was my voice to text. Wonder if robin was trying it.
They also reported that there was a knife by Williams and he had cut marks on his wrists. We in the auto-erotic asphyxiation community do not typically slash our wrists before yanky the wanky.

Was coming in to post this. I saw that Maron reposted this interview last night with his thoughts on Williams.

As much as I loved his acting and stand up, I never liked him during interviews. For obvious reasons, he skirted around questions and just riffed. This was completely different. I had never heard that side of Robin Williams as you hear in that WTF interview. I encourage all to listen.
Listening to it now, sounds like the real Robin.

Thanks.

Not sure if this has been covered because I'm not reading every post. Today's report says he hung himself in his bedroom and that his wife retired to another room at 10:45 pm the night before. Were they sleeping in separate bedrooms, or did they have a big fight that night and the reason she slept in a different room?

The ending bit when his "conscience" talks is very haunting. quite the glimpse into his mind.

Man.... These tributes are hitting me hard. No idea why at all. Maybe my age.... I'm at the point where the things I grew up with are going away and the people are going to start dying.... i don't know. I really have no idea nor explanation why this one is making me feel so sad.

The way I read it she went to bed earlier than he did and he went into another bedroom. She got up in the morning and figured he was sleeping in there so she didn't check on him. That's the somewhat strange part but if it happened that way it doesn't sound like they necessarily had a fight.

meh pretty normal imo...wife goes to bed early or vice versa sometimes the other will watch TV in the other bedroom and end up falling asleep. Of course we check on each other in the morning

My wife is on a bunch of meds and sometimes her schedule is way off from mine due to that. So she sleeps in another room. I generally don't go in unless she seems to be sleeping a long time. Perhaps something similar here.

He wasn't dead next to her or in a bed. He was found hung by a belt off the closet door. This means he either did this after she left the bedroom or if she was in another room, it could have been done the night before. They didn't release time of death. Why would anyone think it odd that he's still sleeping. It's not like it's 1 or 2 or later where it would be odd if he never stayed in the room this long after a night's sleep.

Similar feeling. I'm not mad at him for doing what he did. I'm angry that it had to happen the way it did. My childhood is slowly falling away and THAT is a scary thought.

Makes me wonder a bit how today's "social media" generation will react to such deaths in the future. Do younger people "connect" with others as strongly through "social media" than we might did through movies/tv shows? If they do, they are going to have to deal with a lot more death since many people utilize social media for not the right reasons.

Remember when he first appeared on Happy Days. Loved all of his comedy bits. Had a friend in college almost as quick witted that reminded me of him. All the movies are great and it's amazing all the different roles he played. I got married in Tiburon... :kicksrock:

Love the Pryor anecdote from the Maron conversation. You get a real sense of his reverence for that kind of moment and how epically the bell could be rung so fleetingly to so few. And as a Keith Jarrett fan, I'm familiar with what he was talking about. I had friends at the show he was at and heard about it in the days after. But he was both mocking Jarrett, who he loved, and saying I get it. While a throat-clearing to Jarrett is a like a firecracker going off, the drunk dip#### when Robin was on a roll could do the same thing. He was identifying with that intrusion. Both master improvisors.

I found this to be a good read as well. Sorry if repost.

Tim Grierson on RW.
It's pretty good but sort of overlooks the obvious rationale for "slumming" in a number of forgettable movies: money. He took any, all projects because he had to. Divorce is expensive.

Along that line, I listened to Dave Foley on WTF a few years ago. He talked about how his divorce, the courts and his ex took him to the cleaners. In the interview, there is a real and profound weariness to his voice. There is little joy and a lot of desperation to him at that point. I imagine for Williams it felt much the same way until he reached a breaking point.

Interesting caller this morning on the radio (Opie & _). Talked about how he tried to hang himself a little while back after first cutting himself. Interesting insights - basically said that as a cutter, he cuts himself to draw his mind away from whatever pain he is feeling to the pain of the cuts. When he tried to hang himself, he did so because the cutting wasn't working and this was the next step. He wasn't trying to kill himself, per se, he just wanted the pain to stop.

Who know if that's what went through Robin Williams' mind, but it was an interesting angle nonetheless.

Well it looks like Robin took care of the kids. They have actually been getting their money already through a trust he set up. The two youngest are still in the process of receiving it. Will take until they are 30 to get it all. And it seems he had a pretty good amount of cash as it looks like the 3rd wife will do OK. No one is real sure how much he had left but he sold millions in real estate to get back to a good spot financially so she could do alright.

Daymon Wayans sumed that up in Major Payne. (clip is bad) Funny when he tried it on a little kid later in the flic. (Spoiler alert!!)

I guess Tom Hanks would be the ultimate multi-threat.
Williams >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hanks
Williams is amazing, especially his dramatic roles, but think Hanks could play most of those roles in time. Williams could not play the romantic lead that Hanks has played many times.

Would have been cool to see Williams play the "Big" role. How did that not happen at the time?

You are leaving out the fact that Tom Hanks isn't funny at all.

I've read how hard he took the cancellation of his TV show. He had admitted that he signed on for the money, but as the season went on he felt emotionally attached, and it got his creative juices going. I saw a couple of episodes. It wasn't terrible, just a generic cookie-cutter sitcom that's been done a million times before.

Too bad he couldn't have found his version of "Breaking Bad" or "True Detective".

Maybe a scheduling conflict with the filming of "Good Morning Vietnam"?

Good Will Hunting and Dead Poet's Society as well as Mrs. Doubtfire were his BB and TD. He had nothing left to prove.

I like Tom Hanks a lot but I'm not sure his stand up was any good, even if he had a standup.

BTW - Jack - underrated in my book. It was his "Big"

I can't believe nobody's mentioned that movie Hanks did with Sally Fields where he played a comedian.

I'm by no means suggesting Tom Hanks is funny, just offering fodder for your conversation

I looked up Tom Hanks and stand up a few days ago and the article I read said his stand-up routine was actually very good.

I thinks Hanks has been very funny in his acting roles... always assumed he started in standup.

I just found out yesterday that a friend died from complications related to cancer, which I wasn't aware that she even had. Her 7yo daughter was one of my son's first friends. She and her husband are some of the few people from the neighborhood I genuinely like.

Makes a celebrity dying not so important.

sorry to hear about your friend.

His stand up but about golf is one thing that always sticks out to me. So funny.

Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting, just so much greatness.

Sad that people feel that they need to end it all when they have touched so many peoples lives in a positive way.
