Gronk had to pass protect too much today.2 stinkers in a row for Gronk. Anyone else concerned?
Gronk is mismatch nightmare as well though....when Pats play lesser defenses, especially ones that don't blitz like Jets, Gronk will be used like he was 1st three weeks.Hernandez is still thre guy to own between the two imo. Pats spread the ball around obviously but hernandez creates mismatch problems Gronk can only dream of.
Neither is the "one to have" they'll both have their games, Hernandez didn't look great today, looked like his injury was lingering and his hands just weren't there. As far as mismatches go anytime you get a guy the size of Gronk that can run routes and has good hands you're going to create mismatches so not sure Hernandez causes any more mismatch problems than Gronk does. But man Gronk is a BEAST of a blocker, led the way on a lot of BJGE runs, he'll be a great all around TE for a long time.Hernandez is still thre guy to own between the two imo. Pats spread the ball around obviously but hernandez creates mismatch problems Gronk can only dream of.
very. if new england becomes as run happy as theyve been the last twomweeks, gronk clearly is not the #1 te everyone thought hed be2 stinkers in a row for Gronk. Anyone else concerned?
2 of Gronk's catches were quick passes, Brady threw as soon as he got the snapBrady needs to hold the ball for about 5+ seconds for Gronk to get open. Hernandez can create separation quicker. Against bad defenses, Gronk will still get his. Against good pass rushes, Gronk might not excel.
Ahhh, good to know. Hopefully he rebounds with a big game against Dallas next week.As of Sunday morning, Rob Gronkowski didn't think he would play against the Jets due to an illness.Gronk was so sick to his stomach that he didn't even participate in pre-game warmups. The illness may help to explain Aaron Hernandez's increased role while Gronkowski concentrated on blocking duties. His ability to play through the illness should further endear him to teammates and the coaching staff even if his fantasy stats took a big hit.Source: ESPN BostonOct 9 - 9:22 P

what do you expect? 7 for 100 and td every week?2 stinkers in a row for Gronk. Anyone else concerned?
No, but his last two games are 1/15 and 4/31. Had I know he was sick and almost didn't play, I would have started Vernon Davis. Oh well.what do you expect? 7 for 100 and td every week?2 stinkers in a row for Gronk. Anyone else concerned?
From a fantasy football standpoint, I'd much rather have Hernandez. I don't get points for blocking. Hernandez will have some games too as he's talented but I'd still rather own Gronk and I also think he's a better football player.
Agree, how much does Hernandez even line up on the o-line? Hes lined up as a wr as much as he is coming off the line is he not? From a fantasy football standpoint, I'd much rather have Hernandez. exactly. he qualifies as a TE, but he's really a WR.Agree, how much does Hernandez even line up on the o-line? Gotta start Davis. I'll ride him all year.'ponchsox said:No, but his last two games are 1/15 and 4/31. Had I know he was sick and almost didn't play, I would have started Vernon Davis. This is without question the worst Hernandez analysis that I have ever read. At no point did you even remotely come close.Hernandez is a beast that was beating NFL CBs in his rookie season. Yeah he should have had that TD, but Brady didn't do him any favors on the pass. You could tell something was wrong with Gronk. He was moving around like a zombie out there. Tough day for him, but he'll be back. Maybe now is the time to see if I can make a move for him.Just because you hear the lame announcers say something repeatedly, that doesn't make it true. It has become rote for any "journalist" covering the Patriots, and thus any online fantasy football "expert" as well, to instantly proclaim, "matchup nightmare" whenever Hernandez' name is mentioned. Hernandez is small for a TE and slow for a WR. He is not a "matchup nightmare" in any way, shape or form. Gronkowski, on the other hand, IS a matchup nightmare. He's huge and basically runs as fast as Hernandez. The Patriots nearly lost the game today because of Brady trying to force the ball to a never open, still not 100% Hernandez. This guy always gets tons of targets, but converts a low percentage of them. He has awful hands, and isn't a great route runner. He was solely responsible for Brady's interception. Gronk, on the other hand, catches everything and is impossible for any DB or LB to cover. Why they don't pepper him with more targets is beyond me. He is virtually an unstoppable force.

I don't think it's as simple as them being 'unstoppable" or else they'd have him as a receiver every play. Him as a blocker also helps Tom find Welker and his other receivers. I'm assuming you're a Gronk owner as you seem to put Aaron down much more then he deserves. I don't think you'll find many ff players or pats fans say that Gronk is dominant, they're unstoppable with him, and Hernendez is just average at everything. Hernendez had some drops today, but has good hands and speed for a TE. You don't become 3rd in the nfl in tight end yards/game by being as bad as you make him out to be. As an un biased non-owner of both of these guys, I think both have their own talents. Gronk amazing hands and great blocker, Hernendez a very solid receiver who works the middle of the field so well. Either could go off on a weekly basis, and I think that will stay the same throughout the season. Brady seems to love throwing Hernendez' way.My analysis of Hernandez is spot on; on the other hand, you are obviously just regurgitating the nonsense spewed by the "experts" who cover these games. Explain how Hernandez is a "matchup nightmare." He is 6'3, shorter than virtually all the present top TEs. He isn't even that big compared to many WRs. He runs just slightly under a 4.6 40, which is pretty slow for an NFL WR. It isn't enough to just keep repeating the mantra that he's a "beast," etc. His hands are awful. If you've watched the Pats games, you must have seen him drop passes. You also must have seen how the ball keeps being forced to him when he's not remotely open. His production is almost directly tied to those forced targets. Yesterday, forcing the one to him down near the goal line almost lost the game for them. Hernandez' size-speed combination, route running ability and hands are all mediocre (hands are below average). Gronkowski, on the other hand, is huge even for an NFL TE and is very fast for his size. He is a good route runner and has great hands. Of course, he's also a great blocker, which results in him being punished in a way by not getting the targets he deserves. The Pats offense is unstoppable when they feature Gronk as a receiver.
Right, well I think you need to go back before the season even started and take a look at how much I was pimping Gronk AND Hernandez. I was saying this stuff before whatever experts you're referring to. If you look at interviews from experts that watch and study game tape (like Greg Cosell) they'll all tell you how how good Hernandez is. If that's the "experts" your talking about then I agree, they're all seeing the same thing on tape that I am. He's bigger than most CBs, and faster than most LBs. The guy was getting separation from top end CBs as a rookie. That's tough for any rookie, but even more so a TE, because they seem to have a steeper learning curve. He's a second year guy that's already running every single route from every single position and I can't stress enough the amount of knowledge and work that requires in this O. Did some of his routes look a bit sloppy this week? Of course, but it was obvious he wasn't 100% and at top speed. When the pats use two TEs and send them on routes usually one of them is very wide open. I'm not sure what you're talking about with the forcing the ball stuff. This week the injury was still there and the Jets get pumped up for this game and have a good secondary. Nothing to see here. You're part of a very fringe minority that says Hernandez is average and you have little facts other then combine measurables to back it up. In fact you're pretty much just inventing stuff.

Right, but he is just so insanely good at blocking that he's going to have opportunity. He's a better blocker than most pure blocking TEs and FBs. In fact now that I'm thinking about it he may be the best. Even looking like a zombie out there he has so many key blocks. The fact that he has awesome huge hands and good enough speed to get 10-15tds a season is just icing on the cake. On top of all that if he stays in to block he often releases after a point and becomes a safety valve. Tough game for him but he'll bounce back. From a fantasy football standpoint, I'd much rather have Hernandez. I don't get points for blocking. From a fantasy standpoint; in non-ppr scoring Gronkowski outscored Hernandez on a per game basis last season and is doing so again this season. Gronk also has not missed any playing time, while Hernandez has missed multiple games both seasons. From a fantasy football standpoint, I'd much rather have Hernandez. I don't get points for blocking. Do you?The one thing Gronk will have over Hernandez is he's a better blocker. That will keep him on the field. Done. Can we get this cursed threat title changed. Gronks only scored 6 more pts than gates since it was started.
Hernandez just fumbled, I wouldn't just yet.time to look for another te
does that really matter? theyre both on the field a ton but gronkowski blocks a ton, its not like those roles are gonna changeHernandez just fumbled, I wouldn't just yet.time to look for another te
Hey look, another person that doesnt know what they are talking about. I wonder how many more times this gets parroted.Hernandez is still thre guy to own between the two imo. Pats spread the ball around obviously but hernandez creates mismatch problems Gronk can only dream of.
Also funny. They're both top 10 tight ends as long as Tom Brady is at QB. Neither one is near Jimmy Graham's talent and won't touch Graham's production. There is nothing to argue about here.
On Hernandez TD catch, Gronk was primary target, safety rolled over top of Gronk allowing Hernandez to slip inside for TD. That play could have easily gone to Gronk for TD. Just have to be patient. Both TEs will be solid starts every week as the Pats throw early and often.I think Gronk had what, 73 yds receiving, 2nd on the team today? Not a bad bounce back game. Sure would have liked a TD, but he will get his. I dont know what all the fuss is about. BOth gronk and hernandez are awesome and both will continue to put up enviable stats all year long barring injuries to them or brady. Everyone just chillax
Truth is strange. Isn't it?Also funny. They're both top 10 tight ends as long as Tom Brady is at QB. Neither one is near Jimmy Graham's talent and won't touch Graham's production. There is nothing to argue about here.
All three are ridiculously talented. Hernandez outscored Graham this week, but Graham is having a record breaking career season.Very funny.Truth is strange.
