Romo Without Dez... (1 Viewer)

It's looking very iffy for Dez vs the 49ers tomorrow. If he doesnt play I'm thinking that the 49er D rolls coverage over to Austin all day and takes their chances with Ogletree and Witten. In turn, the Cowboy offense may be content to control the clock with the run game and check downs to Felix knowing that the 49er offense (such that it is) will be lucky to score an offensive TD in this game.

I'm bumping Romo way down in this game. In fact, I'm seriously considering benching him in favor of Fitz at home vs OAK. Anyone else considering benching Romo tomorrow? If so, for whom? The 49er D can be quite stout at home.

Not a chance. The one thing the niners did last week was stop the run. Tavaris stopped the passing for Seattle himself. Romo will take the quick hits in the short and mid range to Witten all day if its there. Dez Bryant is a talented WR but hes not the whole offense. Romo will be looking to make ammends for last week. Expect at least 280yds with 3tds.

Having mentioned in the Dez thread that I was thinking Cutler is my play. The more I think about it, I believe that I go that route. The matchup IMO favors Romo, but w/o Bryant I don't feel comfortable. Cutler will have to wing it out, so why not this week.

Last week we had threads about benching Ray Rice and Tony Romo because of their matchups. Those of you that did most likely lost your first week games.

Don't get cute with matchups this early in the season. There is very little to no statistical data to support either of your claims:

A. Romo will struggle because Austin will receive all the coverage and his other receivers are practically useless. (Witten had the most receiving yards last week and is practically a receiver in this offense. Don't underestimate his abilities to change the gameplan of a defense)

B. The 49ers defense is "stout". Let's get real for a minute here- they played Seattle last week. Beating the Seahawks is like updating your facebook status: everyone has done it this week. Carlos Rogers and Tarrel Brown are no Cromartie and Revis duo.

Unless your other options are Brady, Rivers, Stafford, or Rodgers, Romo should be your starting QB.

I hate the Cowboys, but can we stop pretending that there was no passing game before Dez came along? Romo will be fine.

Now, if Dez AND Austin were out, I'd worry.

Romo was good before Dez was drafted, don't see any reason he would suck now unless you're overly penalized for late turnovers that lose the game.

And this. The Romo offense was fine before Dez came along. What makes their offensive scheme that much different? Further, the defense that San Fran put up last week was against Seattle which is a fantasy waste land right now because the team is nothing to write home about. SF put up nice numbers for my fantasy team last week because of two return tds, not because they dominated the Hawks.

Lets not get cute, lets win fantasy games.

'9ers defensive backend is a work in progress to put it mildly. Romo is still gonna tear them up, IMO. Damn, wish I owned Witten

I'm assuming his targets go to other deserving and capable options like Whitten, Jones and Austin. Probably not going to hurt him much, if any at all.

I like Romo in this matchup, but everyone thinks Witten is a given. The strength of the niner Defense are the LBs. I would think Romo's success would be against the niner secondary. Witten will get his targets, but my guess would be, Witten ends up 4/50/0.

Come on witten is probably the best all around tight end in the league, also it will most likely be whitner covering witten for most of the game not the backers and he isn't quite known for his coverage skills I think he ends with 6/87/1

Outside of Willis, I don't think any of the 49ers LBs are all that good in coverage. The back eight is a work in progress, IMO.

still waiting for Dez to live up to the insane amount of hype that has preceded him . . .
I don't think there's any question that Dez possesses the athletic ability and freakish nature to become a top 5 receiver in the NFL. The problem lies with the true-to-date notion that he's injury prone, and his bone-headed off the field antics.

The 49ers could put 11 guys on Austin and he'd still get open enough. The 49ers stink and Romo is having his ability to lead this team questioned by every major media outlet. Start Romo with confidence, the points will be there.

you are overthinking this. Fitz over Romo??? good luck with that. It might work out, but I wouldnt try it.I'm starting Stafford over Romo, but he's one of the few I'd start over him right now. At home vs. the queefs. JUICY!I drafted Romo much earlier than Stafford, but I will play weekly matchups with the two. Or maybe trade one of them. We'll see.

:lmao:Not the "Whitten" routine again...
I'm not even joking. His name is cryptonite to me. No idea why since I have had him on multiple teams for years, but when I'm typing out his name it's a total mental block. It's embarassing. ;)
