Ronnie Brown: Worth a roster spot? (1 Viewer)

Ronnie Brown's story breaks my heart. Many spent the #1 pick on him in rookie drafts a few years ago and he's shown flashes of being a special player, but injuries have all but destroyed his career. He looked old and slow last year, forcing Miami to go another direction for 2011. He now sits in NFL free agency, likely out of shape (rumors had him out of shape in a normal offseason), overpriced and probably destined to be a backup's backup for a team who loses their starter to injury during preseason.

St Louis apparently is interested, but I can't think of any scenario in which Brown would be fantasy relevant at this point, regardless of where he goes. Is he even worth a roster spot, anymore?

I am holding until August 10, which is our cut deadline. At that point, I really don't know what I will do. I'm hoping more information surfaces about his circumstances. I think he can still play, but it will largely depend on where he winds up. If he goes somewhere with a shot at starting, I will hold. If his role is purely back-up material, I will try to peddle him to the primary RB's owner for peanuts. If not takers, I will probably dump him during final cuts the Sunday before week 1.

If you have the depth, he is a must hold for now. Camps are just starting, RBs get hurt early and often, and Ronnie will eventually find work. You could do much worse right now at the end of your roster and he could end up with a decent gig at some point.

St. Louis is an interesting team, as he seems to be a similar back (size, good hands, etc.) as Jackson......

1. Ronnie Brown was in tremendous shape last off season and was renewing his passion for the game. He was featured on the front of the Miami Herald and he looked pretty yoked at the time.

2. He was never worth the #2 pick overall, that was just silly.

3. He was drafted back in 2005 in rookie drafts so I think most owners have moved on at this point.

He will be in someone's camp and if not Miami will sign him for vet minimum money and put him back there with Reggie Bush, then Thomas can learn and work his way in. But I think Miami is pretty set on rolling with Bush and Thomas for now.

This was all very :goodposting: . Spot on......

just because a guy looks good on the cover of a newspaper does not mean he is ripped up like a monster just look at how many fatties look good in their facebook pictures enough said take it to the bank ronnie brown is the facebook fattie of the nfl

There are a few teams where I think he'd be an upgrade such as New England, Washington, Buffalo, and Green Bay.

They might not be interested in paying him much though, in which case he could just wait for somebody to suffer an injury. Someone is bound to go down in training camp.

Definately worth a roster spot.

I understand but the article was about how he had been working out like a mad man and a current picture of when they profield him. Believe anything you want, its cool.

If he goes to StL he has some value as a handcuff, SJax has only played 16 games twice. As a handcuff to an injury prone guy would probably be the only way I would touch him.

Maybe you can trade him to the McCoy owner now and get something.
