3. I think the nicest gestures of the week belong to Dallas safety Roy Williams and the Redskins. Washington listed the late Sean Taylor as their starting safety for Saturday's playoff game. On the other hand, Williams, who was named to the Pro Bowl as a replacement for Taylor, said he will have something special for the Taylor family in Honolulu, and this is what it is: He'll switch from his uniform number, 31, and wear Taylor's number, 21, for the game. A brilliant idea and nice tribute to the memory of a man who's been an inspiration to players and people in and out of the Washington organization.

The NFC should just play the first qdrive with 10 defensive players to honor Sean as the starter and then put Roy in after that. It's not as if the game means anything anyway so why not honor Sean that way instead of having Roy wear his jersey number.

That is a nice gesture, thumbs up to him for doing it! It just goes to show how far the game has come when arch rivals do these kind of things. To think 20+ yrs ago, this kind of thing would not happen. Hey, they feel bad that a player died, but honor a player from an arch rival?Good for Roy, classy! :hifive:

you know what? i think they should play with 11 safetys. yeah, that would be awesome!

I agree that this is a nice gesture by the player who is replacing Taylor. I sure hope the NFL is done doing anything else in memory of Taylor though. I have seen enough of that and am ready to move on.

While he's at it, maybe he can wear the number of some of the other Safetys in the NFC who were more deserving to go instead of Williams?

What was their relationship? Position? Thats it? Someone mentioned in this thread that Williams is the replacement. Is that true? Is Williams going to the Pro Bowl only because Taylor is dead? I'm not trying to be callous, but I just don't understand this. Why him? I think it would be a better honor if someone from the Redskins changed their number for the game or, even better, if NOONE wore it (whoever normally wears 21 changes it from that number for the game).

Williams is replacing Taylor on the Pro Bowl roster. Pretty simple actually.

I think it disrespects Taylors number to have a player who should not be anywhere near the Pro-Bowl wear #21.

The hatred shown in this thread towards a player trying to show respect to Taylor reminds me yet again how far standards of the Shark Pool has fallen. :lmao:

:homer: He's the most overrated and the dirtiest player in the game. Nice gesture, but he doesn't deserve to be on the field with the talent that will be playing that day.

Two separate things my friend.

Not at all. He's trying to help his image here. He doesn't deserve to be there.

Why? You think it is a bad thing to honor a 24 year old who was killed in the prime of his career?I thought everyone had such a huge problem with the way the NFL treated it's former players. Now it's too much.

Its a gesture. Takes very little effort. The boys from the hood are great at geatures for fallen homies. The problem is life takes more than gestures.

Still its more acknowledgement than I have done. Its something I suppose. Not praiseworthy in my mind, but something. BTW if you dig gestures that's cool with me.

When NFL players (other than the Skins) do it..it it more about them than honoring the player himself. I got that from a brotha I grew up wit.A guy who I grew up with told me "This is a great chance to get your name out there as a caring person..hell I could care less if I knew Taylor or not..I am going to be wearing his number on National TV" I had to laugh..

I see, so noone can honor Taylor other than Redskin players. What about players that knew him in college? It's only possible to honor someone if you knew them? Yes I'm sure some people only do things to get their name out there, but others do feel sympathy.

:blackdot: A dirty player decides to wear #21. Big deal, it was a no brainer and required no effort, and now everyone loves Williams?
