San Diego Chargers rookie RB Ryan Mathews will not see playing time on third-downs, according to head coach Norv Turner. Turner said Mathews is outstanding in pass protection, but said the team will keep RB Darren Sproles in that role during the upcoming season. Turner said he has been excited about Mathews thus far, noting he has great speed, can get outside to the edge and is a very physical, downhill running back

No surprise. Sproles adds another dimension.

Didn't we already know this? Sproles (w/ his sizable contract) is gonna see the field. Makes sense it'd be on 3rd downs...
