Actually it sounds like she mostly avoided public pleas for money. Her lifestyle was funded by child support payments and welfare.

People who have Munchausen's don't do it for the money. They do it for attention and validation from doctors, and because they have a twisted need to have someone completely dependent on them to survive.

So terrible. I'm sure the daughter and boyfriend will be in jail for a long time, but...that's straight up criminal neglect and abuse she suffered under her whole life. Seems like even if she went to the local authorities they wouldn't have believed her.

Sure sounds like malingering (fraud) to me - she likely avoided public pleas for money to avoid undue attention.  She benefited from child support, welfare, various charity groups, neighbors she would charge for concessions at her movie nights.  Attention seeking is certainly a part of it but she definitely benefited financially from her lies.

Scary part for me if that I can imagine my BIL's ex-wife doing something like this.  She has already been in prison for identify theft (was breaking into homes and stealing passports and other documents to commit fraud) and disappears from peoples' lives until she needs something.
