Saints set up for a big letdown (1 Viewer)

This is from Vic Carucci on NFL.com:

Saints @ Panthers

Will the New Orleans Saints be able to ride the momentum of their triumphant return to the Louisiana Superdome to victory No. 4 in Carolina?

I'm afraid not.

The Saints remains one of the best stories of the season, and it won't fade. I soon won't forget witnessing first-hand the emotion and electricity from the fans that went a long way toward allowing the Saints to overwhelm the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3.

For one thing, the Saints won't have the deafening roar of an incredibly stoked-up crowd on their side. For another, the Panthers are feeling a pretty strong momentum boost of their own from the return of Steve Smith to the lineup and their first win of the season, last week against Tampa Bay.

To no one's surprise, the Panthers are a far different team with a healthy Smith running routes and catching passes. He remains one of the foremost deep threats in the league and is capable of the sort of production he had against the Bucs (112 yards on seven receptions) on a weekly basis. But as he showed against Tampa Bay, he provides an additional benefit by drawing coverage away from Carolina's other receivers -- Keyshawn Johnson, Drew Carter and Keary Colbert.
I don't know how good Vic is about picking games or predicitng specific results. By I am all about starting any Panthers this week. I think the Saints are in for a big let down after the big win on Monday night.

All I've been hearing for the past couple of days is how the Saints are set up for a big let down.

Just because of this I think they will win and send a message to all the ney-sayers(sp?)

Their hodgepodge D is doing very well. They're like 4th or 5th ranked D right now.

:goodposting: Answer this, folks: would a Saints victory in this game count as an all-time top-5 upset in NFL history? If it doesn't, why are people talking about this contest like it's a game that doesn't need to be played, as the outcome is already known?

All you have been hearing? You are the one who started this thread to get people to start talking about it.

I started the thread for opinions. Didn't expect everyone and their brother to count the saints dead already

B/c the game doesn't need to be played, the outcome is already known. Panthers waltz at home this week.

Hey Gunz...the Lakers are in town over Xmas and I have tix. After that last prediction you are uninvited.

This one's too obvious gb. I'm laying several units on the Cats - Smith's return and their poor start makes this a no-brainer. Panthers by 3 TDs.

I don't think I've ever heard the term "let down" more than I have during the past week. All I know is that at some point someone is going to have to start giving the Saints props. Beat Cleveland? Well they will never win at Lambeau field. Beat Green Bay? They haven't played anyone yet...wait until they play Atlanta. Beat Atlanta? The field was too soft, the crowd was too loud, and the porridge was too hot. Now it's "they are going to have a let down at Carolina". Carolina is a good team, but giving 7 points in a divisional game to a team that has won 2 more games sounds a bit excessive to me.

I don't know how a victory by the Saints can even be considered an upset. NO's is 3-0, and the Panthers are 1-2. NO's has also won at Bank Of America Stadium the last 5 out of 6 seasons. I hope the Panthers win, but NO's always comes to Charlotte with their game on, and their team is better this year than it has been in the past.

Someone help me, I'm having a Shaq attack.

With Smith back the Panther should be operating on all cylinders. IMO this i gonna be a shootout. Smith will get his. If you haven't noticed, the Sean Payton offense is rolling as well. This will be a close one.

Give 'em hell Saints!! :football:

D'oh!Very winnable game for either squad ... no way was that going to be anything but nip-tuck.

As a Panthers homer, I'll share something with you that you already know. The Panthers seldomly win games by large margins. If you are a gambling man, never bet on the Panthers to beat a large spread. This is true regardless of the disparity in competition. If I had tuned into this thread earlier, I would have said as much. When you sit in the stands for their games, you are in for a true rollercoaster ride. I don't understand why any Panthers fans ever leave the games early, because the games usually come down to the last series or 2.

I was on the phone with my Dad before the last Saints series where the Panthers gave up the big play, and I was explaining the above to my Dad. My Dad said, this game is over. I said no Dad, watch - the Saints may score real quick, and then it will be left to an onsides kick. Sure enough, 2 minutes later this happened.
