not being able to hook up to my laptop via usb sucks.
Why can't you hook up?Ignore error messages and hit OK
usb device not recognized...
hrm - have you tried with a different computer? might be the laptop.-QG
it seems to be a known issue with windows 7 64 bit. allegedly addressed with next patch or update.
I have no problems on my pc with windows 7 64 bit. Just transferred a boat load of pics from phone to computer last night.
Why don't you guys just have your images automatically sync across all your devices as you take them? This whole plugging things in is for the birds. Especially if simple USB connections are throwing errors
Seriously. Dropbox and Google+ both have options where your photos will be automatically uploaded when you take them. Obviously if you didn't get into Dropbox promotions that were going on, you'll want to be a bit careful not to go over your limit. Google+ is pretty nice, it uploads the photos but you choose if you ever want to share any of them.

Seems maybe the Apple guys are a bit threatened by the Galaxy SIII and other recent Android phones.
Yep. They haven't been able to even make the case that their phone is the best for quite some time now, it's just getting worse and worse.Siri!!!!!!
S3 is actually the first one that has me really considering anything other than iPhone. I admit it looks pretty sweet. But other phones haven't been interesting to me.That said, I'm holding out the month to see what iPhone5 looks like, and will decide then.

I decided to hang on to my S2 for now. The S3 is a little bit big for my taste right now (although that screen real estate is SICK), and there's not enough things the S3 does that the S2 doesnt for me to shell out a couple hundred bucks and get back into a contract. I thought about buying one off contract like I did with my S2, but I need a new laptop more than I need a new phone at this point in time. Plus, the S2 is still pretty gangsta, and I'm thinking about installing the ICS upgrade soon, so it'll be like having a new phone with new features to play with.

Ill revisit the S3 in a few months.

As much as I like to poke at the big time fanboys...Im doing the same with the 5.Wife has a 4s...if I was going to jump for a phone I would have already done it for the EVO LTE or the S3...but just want to see what the iPhone is like with the 5.

I just gave up on my iPhone. Tried it for 14 days. Trading it in for an S3. Had an Evo before. The iPhone's screen is too small, the thing itself is way to fragile for a cell phone. Seriously, why would anyone incase a cell pohne in glass? It's a slippery bugger too. Slides across the car seat, off the couch...

Also didn't have some shortcuts I really liked that the Evo had (Screenshot bookmarks screen, Calling someone from a text screen without scrolling all the way up to the top of the conversation, no Gmail push, etc...)

The camera on the iPhone is awesome though. I hope the S3 matches up with that.

Seriously, why havent they addressed this yet? That screen is horrible (size wise) by todays standards. When the first iPhone came out, the screen was awesome. A year after that (and pretty much since), not so much.Androids ability to be completely customized is such a huge deal to me, theres no way Id ever consider a cookie cutter iPhone.

iPhone Pro tips:- If you set up your Gmail address as an Exchange account it will enable gmail push to the iPhone. - Yes, the call button is at the top of the text conversation but all you have to do is simply touch the top bar of the text window and it immediately jumps up to the top for you. No scrolling needed. - I don't understand what "Screenshot bookmarks screen" means. Pressing the top button and Home button at the same time takes a screenshot of any screen in iOS.Enjoy your S3.

Does your first point work on the iPad?

Yes, in Apple Mail on iOS 3 and above. Here's a link from Google. The 'jump to the top' by touching the top bar also works system wide, not just in text conversations. It's very handy when surfing the web as well.

ETA: You may have to enable PUSH for Mail under System Settings as well. Don't recall if Push is on by default or not.

Oh ok, cool. Hopefully I can find that setting. It was something that bugs me.

The screenshot bookmarks page is the thing I miss the most. It was one swipe away from my home screen and one tap took me right to my preferred bookmark. Now I need to hit the safari button, hit my bookmarks button, then hit the bookmark I want to go to. 3x the work. Also the scrolling is worse than the Evo which surprised me. Doesn't change scroll speeds based on how fast you swipe and you can't "grab" the scroller and take it where you want.

The bolded is my big reason for being with Android. I like widgets, and while I understand the original reason for no widgets on the iPhone (processor too slow) that isn't a problem with any of the newer phones. Plus apps like Tasker/Locale, that can't be made for iOS because of the way iOS is locked down.

Just got mine yesterday. I didn't even know how to answer the damn phone.

Learning Curve= straight up. :loco:

But at least it's huge.

The screen on this is awesome. Watched the ESPN 30 for 30 about Iverson while on the train today via the Netflix app. The picture quality is amazing.

Battery life is pretty great as well....I can make it a whole day and only be at 50% on a regular day. Maybe down to 30% if I watch video.

Glad my unlimited data was grandfathered though. I've already used 1.9 GB and my cycle ends on the 22nd. I don't even watch that much video, steam music, etc.

I noticed my data usage went up when I got my One X. Bigger screen, faster phone and faster connection = my data usage going over 2GB for the first time, and staying high.

Just got mine going yesterday after a 3 week trial run with the iphone. This phone is exponentially better.

Curious what points make it exponentially better. I'm in the same boat as Oat.

I just got my Galaxy, but I'd also be curious to hear specifically why this phone is "exponentially better" than the IP.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear it is exponentially better than IP4. That's a pretty old design at this point.I would imagine the Galaxy has a bigger/nicer screen, is faster, and has more customizability -- all of which seem like good things to me.But I'm very curious to see IP5 before I jump to any conclusions as to which is better.

I really didn't like the physical button on this thing at first but now I'm used to holding it down to bring up a quick task manager. Very neat.

How is the phone for playing music. Currently have a basic cell phone and an ipod touch and was looking to get a phone that merges both. Any issues with listening to music or how the music app works?

no thoughts on the ability to play tunes via the Samsung Galaxy III?
I use my S2 to play music all the time. Got some in the cloud via Google Play and some on my SD card. I'm sure its virtually the same setup. It works great.

Anyone else having a problem that they cant hang up the phone? When I make a call, after a few seconds my screen goes black and it is frozen. I can talk on the call, but I cant disconnect. So I end up leaving long voicemails if I get a voicemail, or it resets when the person I called hangs up.

not yet. but I have noticed that it lights back up when I put the phone down away from my ear and look at it. like magic. or fairies. or something.and it's still big. but I like it- looks and sounds great.

Handcent crashes a lot, which sucks.

One of the coolest things is the Briefing setting under alarms. Set up an alarm to wake you up. Name it "Good Morning _____" with your name in the blank obviously. The alarm will sound, then you will hear "Good morning, _____. It is now 6:30 a.m. The weather today is...." It basically tells you the weather for the day, the latest news stories, and any appointments you have for that day. That fn ROCKS.

Checked one out again today...I wonder why Google maps doesn't zoom in as close as I can with my s2. Also, I wish the back button wasn't so close to the edge of the phone...it makes it hard to hit it when using one hand. I suppose I'd get used to that pretty quick though

I can't get the weather to ever work on mine.

Yeah I grabbed the weather channel app in order to see weather maps.-QG

FINALLY got my Grey Otterbox Defender cover. It's a tank. Feels good in hand. I don't care for the built in screen protector because it pixelates the screen a bit. I'll eventually pop it out when it's scratched and go with a regular stick on protector. Overall it feels like I can drop it and have near zero fear of it breaking, which in the end is what I wanted.

Also doing this. Considering new iphone, S3, or Note 2.

I've have the Galaxy S3 for about two weeks now after having an iPhone 4 and I'm loving it. I was holding off on upgrading until after the iPhone 5 came out but my iPhone 4 usb port stopped working (I have since fixed it for $70 and will be selling it unlocked) so I decided to just upgrade to the S3.

PROs:

- Gorgeous screen: One of the reasons I wanted to remain with iPhone was because of the retina display, but the AMOLED HD screen is just amazing, especially considering it is much larger at 4.8". Don't notice much of a difference between the two screens, but the AMOLED screen does have "brighter" colors...not necessarily more accurate, but colors certainly pop.

- Swype/T9 predictive text: Can't imagine texting any other way now. Not sure why Apple doesn't have this.

- Snappy processor: Does what I want with no slow down.

- Android OS: Actually a fan of the operating system now that I've played with it some. Certainly not as intuitive, but it isn't rocket science either considering the customization available.

- PRICE: with upgrade through Wal*Mart it came out to about $170 AFTER taxes. Wal*Mart taxes the upgrade price (149.99) and not the MSRP price which for a $199 iphone would cost around $270 dollar after taxes.

CONS:

-Super large phone + slick case + light weight feel = prone to dropping. Definitely need a case or rubber bumper on this because I find that I mishandle this phone more frequently than the slimmer iPhone.

- Battery life sucks compared to iPhone. I could go overnight without having to worry about charging my iPhone. The same use with the S3 and it won't last 24 hrs.

- Really miss the "double tapping" the status bar to return to the top of the screen. Does android have a tweak for this?

So overall, I think I'm going to stick with the S3 unless the iPhone 5 has some ridiculous new feature yet to be unveiled. Also, I think this will be my last smart for purchase for a while, unless smartphone technology makes major leaps within the next 2 years.

I've never used an iPhone, so I don't know if you're talking about going to the top of a webpage in a browser, or going to the top of any screen from anywhere (e.g., in an email, etc.).If you use the Dolphin browser, you can jump to the top of a webpage either with a gesture or by tapping the bottom right corner of the screen.
