The 49er defense played 47 fewer snaps and also have 3 days extra rest over the Eagles.

The Eagles also played almost a whole extra quarter against Buffalo.

Those 3 days matter, especially given the style of games Philly has played the past 2 weeks vs the games the Niners played. Ask any player how huge 3 extra days of rest are, they'll tell you.

yup. and add in the Eagles have been dealing with injuries on the defensive side of the ball, so a lot of the defensive players played career high in snaps against the Bills. I am sure they emphasized healing their body up to this game knowing this 49ers game is likely to be one of the most physical games of the year, but there is only so much they can do. Hopefully the Eagles can hold a lead for a bunch, because if the 49ers jump ahead and choose to run the ball a bunch they are likely to wear down significantly by the 4th Q. At worst this should be a pick 'em game, incredible to see SF as a road favorite in this one.

Really think there are multiple factors going into it. Relatively equal health and rest, Eagles would be the slight favorite. Missing Goedert and a gimpy Lane is worth a couple points though. The extra preparation time is worth a few points. SF has looked more dominant recently, thats another point or two.
In the end, a 2 or 3 point spread points to a pretty even matchup when everything is considered. SHould be a fun one. And one I don't feel very confident about. BUT....Eagles are due to put a complete game together, and this seems like the right time for it. Philly 34-20

I don't know what you mean by "hold onto those stats". My point is, when Purdy is playing in games where the Niners are in control he is efficient and will devastate our secondary. When he is playing from behind, he kinda sucks. I don't really care if its because his pro bowl tackle is out or if he slips on a banana peel on the way out of the locker room. He hasn't shown *yet* that he can be as devastating a QB when he has to play catchup (a comeback win against a mediocre LV team notwithstanding).

I bring up Hurts, because you seem to be of the belief that losing parts of your offense is an automatic reason for poor play by your QB. Hurts disproves your point. He's lost major players on the offense and still finds ways to win and or ball out. Not sure how relevant those stats are. MOST QBs are gonna have poorer stats in games they are losing over the long haul. It's part of why they're losing in that particular game. And in Purdy's case, there isn't exactly a large sample size.

Now, we also know that a similar run-down of Hurts' stats is the exact opposite, and with a....decent but not huge sample size. It has meaning, but it's also not likely sustainable (at least at it's present difference) over a decade.

meh...all teams give up something to get something. SF has one of the scariest skill position groups in the NFL. You run out of money/resources to have everything great in this salary cap world. Philly skimps on LBs, and to a lesser extent the secondary. One of the reasons Purdy has been so successful is his poise...with that line your QB MUST have a lot of poise and heart. It's arguably one of the most important traits for QBs but an absolute must with a shaky line

Yeah, it's been so bad this year. I'm convinced more than ever that these games are now influenced. And the NFL doesn't care because they get ratings and they are in with gambling now.

It's the demise of professional sports happening right before our eyes.

Been listening to complaints about officiating for nearly 40 years now. They haven't really changed. People said the same things then they do now.

Honestly, I think overall it's a little better now. the rules? Not so much. I think we may have slightly more complaining now, but that's driven by higher popularity, more betting, and more difficult to enforce rules

I have a feeling security will be tested at this game on Sunday, both fan bases are a little off their rockers when it comes to their teams.

I have 2 bets left on a 6 way parlay that I need to hit for a nice win, Hurts +.5 rush td and McCaffrey +.5 rush td so I'll be invested in this game outside of just being a local bay area resident.

I think they LOVE the controversy. The old adage of even bad press is good press applies imo. I think they came to this conclusion during the WTF is a catch anymore era. That controversy lit the entire sports world and social media world on fire.

The ref telling the player to put his helmet back on on live television was the nail for me.

People can miss me with the ol’ “there’s too much money to risk/integrity of the game” stuff. Time and time again we have witnessed incredibly rich people do stupid things for greed.

Not enough talk about the 49er defense. Other than the 3 weeks where they were in a funk during the losing streak, they've been lights out and their pass rush is getting revved up at the right time.

In their last 3 games (@ Jacksonville, vs Tampa Bay, and @ Seattle), the 49ers have 15 sacks (second in the league), a 52.4% pass rush win rate (third) and 34 pressures (tied for fourth).

That production has helped the Niners surge back to the top of the NFL in fewest points allowed per game (15.5) and in the top five in yards allowed per game (295.3).

They also have the 2nd most takeaways with 21 (Denver has 22) and are tied for best turnover differential with the Steelers at +11. Eagles defense is tied for 7th fewest takeaways (14) and 8th worst differential (-2)

49er corners have also been on lock down the past 3 weeks.

Everyone's talking about Purdy and Hurts, but defense might be the difference in this game, and the 49ers have a clear edge in that phase.
