*** San Francisco 49ers *** Draft is over. Did anyone watch? (53 Viewers)

A Bosa/Floyd rotation should be very solid and keep both players healthy. If they add one or two of these monster DT prospects early in the draft, things will be looking up.

What is needed on Offense?
-You have the QB, you just gotta pay him, right? I assume I know the answer to this one but maybe I'm in the dark
-Can CMC get on the field and be ready to roll for 16-17 games this year? If not, seems lie anyone that wears a SF jersey and plays RB finds success.
-What is the Offensive Line looking like? Part of the success in the running game is a pretty strong OL
Puni was a 3rd round pick, 87th overall, 6th highest rated RG/LG in the NFL as a Rookie, that's Pro Bowl caliber and you have him cheap the next couple years
Trent Williams was rated in the Top 10 again of all NFL Tackles. McKivitz on the other side is just so so and due for a contract extension?
Brendel at Center is average, I could see the Niners drafting or signing an impact IOL to keep their running game rolling.

-You have Kittle and Aiyuk with Persall and Jennings, sure they could draft another WR to groom behind these others or sign a veteran if they think they need it.
I see them as already fairly strong at Receiver but I can understand if fans want to see a little more splash in this area after Deebo was traded which I think was wise by the Niners

Cap space is decent at around $35M, obviously Purdy is going to require some big money but they will line up to be cap friendly this season and spread out his signing bonus
I also see several players that have big cap numbers but no guaranteed money, that's usually prime targets to restructure or extend and lower their current cap figures.

Pretty deep DT/IDL class
I like TJ Sanders in the 2nd round from South Carolina and love Kenny Grant from Michigan.

IIRC they were among the best in the league in yards per play, their red zone offense was just awful. If CMC ever gets healthy he’s a one man cure for that. They also need OL help badly; you are being overly generous with a couple of those grades.

Yeah, while I know DT is important, assuming they stay at 1.11, OL would be my preference. McKivitz will be a fine backup/swing tackle, but as a starter, just not good enough in pass protection. Same with Brendel. He gets steamrolled a lot in the passing game. And make no mistake about it, 49ers will be more pass heavy in 2025. Bartch looked good in his limited playing time last year, so hopefully he's the replacement for Banks.

Getting McCaffrey back is huge overall and especially in the red zone. Even when he was healthy enough to play last year, you could tell he wasn't right. Hopefully he is back 100 percent, but not much info out there about his status right now. Lynch has said a couple positive things, but hard to put much stock in GM speak.

Yeah, I just don’t really like the scouting reports on the top offensive linemen this year. Doesn’t seem like the year to spend an early-mid first on one.

If Campbell or Membou fall, grab them quickly. Projected to go before 11 but so was Tristen Wirfs in 2020. Fell right into the 49ers lap and they passed on the gift to TB. Still pisses me off.

I agree on Wirfs but I don't know about those prospects. Campbell has alligator arms and Membou was being projected as a guard recently before everyone started talking themselves into him as OT1 after the combine.
 
The 49ers are signing Jaguars TE Luke Farrell to a 3-year contract worth up to $20.250M with $11M GTD, per @RapSheet

Farrell is a blocking TE who contributes to special teams as well. Not much of a threat in the passing game. Only 36 catches in four seasons.

Kyle Juszczyk's time in SF may be over.
 
The 49ers are the first team to reach the max of four 2026 compensatory picks:

•4th (Ward)
•4th (Banks)
•4th/5th (Hufanga)
•5th (Moore)
 
there have been years when our roster has rightfully been plundered in free agency, but none of these guys were particularly good (and some were bad) last year and they are still pulling down 8 figures/year. Crazy.

One of the first signings of the Shanahan/Lynch regime. Good 49er but figured he was gone when they signed the Jags TE that nobody has ever heard of but apparently is a good blocker

Coupled with the aging o and the history of not so great drafts this doesn't look good

I think you could make an easy case that the 49ers are easily bottom 3rd in talent on the dline, lb, defensive backfield, wrs, oline

The Jets want a word with you. You guys have no problem at WR with Jennings, Pearsall, and Aiyuk (depending upon when Aiyuk is ready). I mean, you all know more about than I do, but those guys seem to be better than a bunch of teams' three receiver sets. I think a bottom-third designation is the result of homer glasses in reverse—meaning you're not looking at it objectively and you hate what you have a bit too much.

eta* I think you're strong at RB, WR, QB, TE. Your main problem on offense is simply health at the RB, QB, and TE positions, but if everyone is healthy and ready to go, you'll score a lot. Your defense may indeed have problems, but linebackers and safeties are replaceable and the draft is full of DTs. Ward I don't really know how you'll replace—maybe move Renardo Green out of the slot and into outside coverage?—but you'll come up with something.

I still think this team is the second-best (at least) in the NFC West.

I'd take garret wilson as a 1 over any of those guys. Jennings might be something but he's never been asked to do much, is a 7th round pick, will be 28 this year and doesn't have any real good metrics.
Pearsall is a wr3 and I think that's what he was drafted for
Aiyuk I'll give you there is a maybe but his health is going to severely impact his play this year.

And i did say bottom 1/3. Wilson is great but without davante certainly the jets would be there as well.

Absolutely agreed. Not only did the Lance trade do long-term damage, they have had a lot of bad drafts and bad picks over the last 5 years. There is little youth to be excited about. Kittle is one of my fav players and is awesome but he's also about be 32 and is getting dinged up more. If he is out they are bottom of the league at TE as well

Pretty much.

As soon as the trade was made, it was a WTF moment. Just didn't make sense to give up that draft capital for a "project" QB. By far the worst decision of the 8 year Shanahan/Lynch regime and yeah, it probably cost them a Super Bowl. Having those picks could have put them over the top in a couple NFC championship games and a Super Bowl.

That said, I think the approach they seem to be taking now is the right one. They need to get their cap in line and get younger. Losing Greenlaw sucked big time though. Love that guy.

Leonard Floyd: 54.4 -- released
Maliek Collins: 42.8 -- released/traded
Javon Hargrave: 44.7 -- released

PFF grades aren't the end-all, be-all, but it feels like Robert Saleh's trying to emphasize shoring up a leaky run Defense and prioritizing run defenders over primarily pass rushing defensive linemen.

Collins and Floyd primarily worked against the pass, but not so much against the run.

Best I can tell with adding Leonard Floyd and Javon Hargrave (post June 1), the 49ers are up to around $85+ million in dead money on the 2025 salary cap.

A clear willingness to make this the year they just pay the piper to clean up the books a bit.

For frame of reference: last year, the Broncos took on $85 million in dead money to release just QB Russell Wilson. (They did a post June 1 to spread it over two years).

The Niners have 13 players accounting for this current amount so far.
 
Releasing Floyd and Juice definitively feels like we've crossed the line into a rebuild. I'm not mad about it. Clean the cap situation out, hopefully hit on a bunch of picks in the next two years and reload for Purdy's prime.

If that’s the case, trade Bosa, CMC, & Kittle. No point in paying Trent either - move his fat butt outta town too.

I don’t think they’re rebuilding. Retooling for sure - clearing space for Purdy’s deal, maybe they have some plans for the draft. :shrug:

I call it a soft rebuild.

I just wish we would have got at least one ring before having to do this. Now it's gonna be even tougher.

This is about a big of a move as we're gonna see.

Former Rams WR Demarcus Robinson is signing a 2-year, $9.5 million deal (depth contract) including $6M fully guaranteed with the 49ers.

Robinson finished last season with 31 receptions for 505 yards and 7 TDs.

He had TDs on 22.6% of his receptions (7 of 31) last season. That's the 10th best mark for any WR since 2000 with 30+ catches in a season.

He had more snaps, targets and receiving yards than Cooper Kupp did in the Rams two playoff games in 2024.

Robinson has missed only one game in his 9-year career up to this point, the Rams had some concern that a DUI arrest could lead to an NFL suspension in 2025. Could be an issue if the 49ers are counting on Robinson to pick up some slack if Aiyuk misses time.
