*** San Francisco 49ers *** Official thread - Kicker Jake Moody is OUT (13 Viewers)

Zane Gonzalez has a calf strain and will miss a few weeks, per Kyle Shanahan.

Jake Moody is dealing with strained right quad is considered week to week.

Ryan Succop is a FA. I'd love them to sign him for a week or 2, just so we could have TWO Mr Irrelevants starting on the same team. That's never happened.

Other FA kickers: Mason Crosby, Brett Maher, Randy Bullock, Kai Forbath, Dan Bailey, Matt Prater, Graham Gano.

I think we sign one of those guys like we did with Chase McLaughlin a couple years ago when Gould was out, IF Moody isn't ready for week 1. Don't worry, we WONT be without a healthy kicker against the Steelers.

Injury update:

Rookie tight end Cameron Latu requires surgery to repair a meniscus injury he suffered Friday night. Latu will miss extended time. But the difficult part about his situation is the 49ers have roster cuts coming up. Do they place Latu on the season-ending injured reserve list, or use up one of his spots on the 53-man roster? Based on Latu’s preseason play, you’d be hard-pressed to say he’s done enough to earn a roster spot.

Safety Tayler Hawkins suffered a broken hand and needs surgery.

Cornerback A.J. Parker sustained a hamstring injury and will miss a few weeks.

Running back Jordan Mason is day-to-day with a foot sprain.

Wide receiver Chris Conley is day-to-day with a shoulder injury.

All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga has missed the past couple of days with a Baker cyst, which is a fluid-filled growth behind the knee. That was the extent of the update on Hufanga. Hufanga had a procedure and took time to recover and heal.

Elijah Mitchell was forced to take this week off from practice due to a tight adductor. This is the third time Mitchell has had an injury since June.

The Niners will work out multiple kickers this week, said Shanahan, who didn't rule out a potential reunion with Robbie Gould, who had been the team's kicker since 2017 before the team opted for Moody and Gonzalez in the offseason.

"We're discussing everything and just being ready for any possibility to maneuver this roster however, but we really don't know what direction we're gonna go until time takes care of that," Shanahan said.

Bosa watch:

Link

The Niners have a “substantial” offer that would make [Bosa] the “highest paid edge rusher.” I’ve heard & reported that Nick Bosa wants to be the highest paid Defensive player.

Now the clock is ticking. Will the two sides find a middle ground or will one budge. We will find out!!!

Al Sacco

From ESPN: Nick Bosa is the only #49ers player w/ multiple 15-sack seasons since 1982 (when the stat became official).

Since 2019, SF's D has a 48% pass rush win rate w/ him on the field. It drops by 11% without him on the field.

That’s a good stat and confirms my intuition that he single-handedly takes this defense from about average to among the best. Crazy that a deal is taking so long.

Maiocco:

The #49ers brought in two kickers for workouts today: Tristan Vizcaino and Taylor Russolino.

Vizcaino spent one game with SF in 2020, going 3-for-3 on FGs, including a long of 47, and 2-for-2 on PATs. Russolino, 34, last kicked for the Arlington Renegades of the XFL.

Matt Barrows, appearing on 95.7 The Game Monday morning, spoke about the Bosa contract drama. Barrows said, "The agent is using Tuesday at 1 p.m., the deadline for getting down to the 53-man roster, as leverage. That's sort of a next data point or date that I'd be looking at for when this deal could get done."

Maiocco:

Here’s the 49ers initial roster. (Note: Two players will go on IR to make room for the re-signings of DL Kerry Hyder and Austin Bryant.)

Some people just can't help themselves.

It's just so weird to me.
We're 12 days out from the start of the season, they need him signed already

Although the comment you are responding to clearly ignores reality of multiple NFCC plus a SB appearance over the last few years. Nonetheless, this needs to get taken care of at this point.

Source: Nick Bosa will be with the team and available to play Week One in Pittsburgh. The two sides plan to get a deal done “within the next few days.”

I know he’s amazing, but he needs to put pads on and get a little football/practice under his belt. Really hope he’s signed within a few days.
A full week of practice and he should be ready to go.

Yup, just like a week. If he isn’t signed by this weekend, I move into panic mode.

Seems like a random person to be breaking this news. I’m skeptical.

He was on 95.7 The Game, so I assume he's known In the Bay Area. No idea on his credibility though.

tweeted by 95.7 The Game:

"I'm expecting that they're gonna get a deal done in the next couple of days, that's what I was told... I was told he can't be had [in a trade] and he will be there week one, they're just ironing out details"

@JDumasReports expects a Nick Bosa deal very soon (@MorningRoast957)

"I don't think this is ideal in terms of how long he's been out. I don't think the Niners really think is ideal either. But you know, the Bosa's have the blueprint, they're gonna get what they want."

@JDumasReports on Nick Bosa getting his bag

The 49ers have not claimed anyone off of waivers but the following players have been claimed

OT Ilm Manning (Arizona)
C Keith Ismeal (Arizona)
DB D’Shawn Jamison (Carolina)

I knew Manning wouldn't clear, and not surprised Jamison got claimed.

49ers lose another player

Rookie G Joey Fisher is being signed by the Steelers

And they're adding one

Former Packers 5th-round CB Shemar Jean-Charles is signing with the 49ers practice squad

The 49ers 17 member practice squad:

DL Alex Barrett
FB Jack Colletto
WR Chris Conley
T.Y. McGill
TE Troy Fumagalli
RB Brian Hill
OL Corey Luciano
OL Leroy Watson
OL Alfredo Gutierrez
WR Tay Martin
WR Isaiah Winstead
WR Willie Snead
DL Marlon Davidson
LB Curtis Robinson
CB Tre Swilling
DB Q. Knight
CB Shemar Jean-Charles

Wagoner:

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan says he has been expecting something to get done with DE Nick Bosa around this time. Says front office working "tirelessly" to get something done.

Shanahan says there's no way Niners would consider trading Bosa. Hopes contract is done "sooner than later."

Lombardi:

Kyle Shanahan said the 49ers "are still looking at some practice squad guys" at kicker and they might bring someone in by the end of the week, but there is confidence that Jake Moody's quad strain is only a short-term issue.

Danny Gray (shoulder) will be 1 of the 2 players the 49ers put on IR today. Ray-Ray McCloud still has a chance to return Week 1

49ers signing kicker Matthew Wright in case Moody can't go week 1 @ Pittsburgh.

Wright has connected on 40 of his 46 field-goal attempts over his career, with a career-long of 59 yards, achieved last season with the Chiefs. He has made 35 of his 37 extra-point attempts. The Steelers signed Wright as an undrafted free agent out of UCF in 2019. He has also kicked for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He’s had two short stints with the Steelers and has kicked in four games in Pittsburgh, so hes familiar with that stadium.

Saw a report he's looking at $30M a year.

Yeah, we've known that since last season. He will reset the market by getting more than TJ Watt.

I've heard his agent is asking for him to be the highest paid non-QB, who is currently Aaron Donald I believe.

Al Sacco:

Was looking at total guarantees for some of the #49ers biggest contracts (per spotrac):

I would guess Bosa is looking for over $100 mill in total guarantees

Uncharted territory for SF

GTD at signing:

Williams: $40 mill
Kittle: $30 mill
Warner: $27 mill
Deebo: $40 mill

J. Bosa: $78 mill
TJ Watt: $80 mill
Donald: $95 mill

Breer:

We can start with Nick Bosa, who isn’t going anywhere for a long time. The question is whether he’s going to be the highest-paid nonquarterback of all time—he’ll be the highest-paid edge rusher. The difference between the two distinctions is less than $4 million per year, and the Niners and Bosa’s people have been trying to bridge that gap for a while now. They have an artificial deadline coming (the start of the season), and at some point something almost has to get done. It’s when, not if.

Al Sacco:

So per Breer 49ers & Bosa trying to bridge less than $4 mill gap btw highest edge & highest def player.

Watt makes $28 mill per & Donald makes $31.6. I assume that's the gap? Are they good on guarantees?

It was Donald $ all along. Not sure how that wasn't assumed from the jump

Seriously if you are the 49ers how are you arguing like this over 4 million if true

I guess it depends on the length of the contract. If its 5 years, that's $20 million, which is a significant amount. I'm wondering if the guaranteed part is what's holding them up.

Still the guy makes the defense go and the cap increases every year. Seems like a failure again if they are haggling over 4 million and we are about to start the season...

How many NFL QBs have higher salaries than Brock Purdy? 78!

Looking through Spotrac's average quarterback salary rankings, you have to scroll all the way down to No. 79 on the list to find Purdy, who is averaging $934,252 a season, per the salary cap site. Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert comes in at No. 1 on the list, earning $52.5 million per season.

Trey Lance comes in at No. 25 on the list, averaging $8.5 million per season on his four-year, $34.1 million rookie contract

Who are the lowest-ranked starting quarterbacks above Purdy on the list? Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell comes in at No. 76, averaging $1 million per season. If you see Clayton Tune as the Arizona Cardinals' starter, he is at No. 71, averaging $1.05 million. Atlanta Falcons quarterback Desmond Ridder sits at No. 57, averaging $1.34 million.

Kenny Pickett of the Pittsburgh Steelers is at No. 42. He will face the 49ers in Week 1. Pickett, a first-round pick in last year's draft, averaged about $3.5 million a season.

If Purdy ends up working out for the 49ers, he will be an impressive bargain. The quarterback signed a four-year, $3.7 million rookie contract last year and isn't slated to hit free agency until 2026.

2023 schedule by projected opposing starting QBs:

WK1: Kenny Pickett
WK2: Matt Stafford
WK3: Daniel Jones
WK4: Josh Dobbs
WK5: Dak Prescott
WK6: Deshaun Watson
WK7: Kirk Cousins
WK8: Joe Burrow
WK9: bye
WK10: Trevor Lawrence
WK11: Baker Mayfield
WK12: Geno Smith
WK13: Jalen Hurts
WK14; Geno Smith
WK15: Kyler Murray
WK16: Lamar Jackson
WK17: Sam Howell
WK18: Matt Stafford

Would be nice if he’d sign. I’m definitely worried about week 1.
I can totally see us losing week 1 regardless if Bosa is there or not. We're just slow starters, and Pittsburgh's defense is really good with a relentless pass rush. Last 2 seasons we started 3-4 and 2-4 and made the NFCCG. If we drop week 1, we will be fine. The next 4 are all home games: @ Rams, then 3 in Santa Clara vs Giants, Cardinals, and Cowboys. I see 2-2 at worst, prob 3-1 after the first 4 weeks.

It's getting to the point where I'm about to say trade him. If they've offered $30+ million and he's demanding another 4, he's not being a team player. $30 mil is more than fair.

He's hurting the team at this point. I'm over it.

I like the Steelers week 1

-mostly because it's a 1:00 game, they fly East, will feel like 10am for them.
-Also think the Niners are in a little bit of disarray, may not know who they truly are yet in 2023, that doesn't mean i think they won't be players for the NFC Title
Just not that optimistic about them in Week 1, please don't take it personally, I admire the Niners fan base on this forum

Good Luck, no problem when you spike it in my face
Cheers!

Someone show this to Bosa. This is how you be a team player. I get that Kelce is playing in SBs which helps, but this 49er teams window could start closing soon.

Chiefs Star Travis Kelce knows he's underpaid, but simple says "I love winning".

"My managers and agents love to tell me how underpaid I am," Kelce told Vanity Fair. "Any time I talk about wanting more money, they’re just like, ‘Why don’t you go to the Chiefs and ask them?’"

"When I saw Tyreek go and get $30 [million] a year, in the back of my head, I was like, man, that’s two to three times what I’m making right now," Kelce said. "I’m like, the free market looks like fun until you go somewhere and you don’t win. I love winning. I love the situation I’m in."

"You see how much more money you could be making and, yeah, it hits you in the gut a little bit. It makes you think you’re being taken advantage of," Kelce said.

"I don’t know if I really pressed the gas if I would get what I’m quote-unquote worth," Kelce added. "But I know I enjoy coming to that building every single day."

Except in the land of analytics he ranks 6th overall in the NFL
That's WITH QBs in the mix...

Mahomes...not as relevant
Darnold...In '22 he signed a 3 yr/$96M guaranteed
Williams...$55M Guaranteed, $30M signing bonus, Mar'21, over 2 years ago
Kelce...Hasn't signed a deal since 2020
Garrett...2020-5/$125M, with $100M guaranteed
Adams.../22 singed a 5yr/$140M deal with $65M guaranteed

Like it or not Bosa is a special player that is going to get something outside the normal for a contract
Acting like you want him off the team, you know that isn't going to get the 49'ers closer to a title so relax, please.
Let it play out, the market will ultimately decide what he is truly worth.

Enjoy

Adding together Bosa’s injury history and our team’s injury luck, plus him missing every practice for the last 8 months… I’m betting he will promptly tear an ACL as soon as he signs anyway.
I know this is half serious, half joking, but I def have the same worries.

Even worse, it’ll happen in a meaningless game like against AZ.

And never be the same again...that's what always seems to happen
