Thinking about getting one, either F2 or F3. (Would need to find a really good deal on an F2)

Anyone have any experiences/advice with Savannahs? Any breeder recommendations? We'd be getting a kitten. (My wife's a veterinarian, so we're probably less concerned, less unaware about having an "exotic" cat than most)

One thing to keep in mind when shopping for a cat is that they are horrible animals unsuitable for living with humans and deep down if you're being honest with yourself you actually want a dog.

Personality

If you want to live with a sweet, quiet lap cat, don’t get a Savannah. This is an active, adventurous feline who enjoys life in the fast lane. Her athletic body allows her to jump to very high places
Sounds like it was built for destruction

Don't hate the animal that, on one end of the spectrum, is an apex predator with virtually no peers, and on the other end is a cut, fun, and loveable housepet. Dogs are basically shedding, slobbering, smelly housepets with no will of their own.

I've seen them on Too Cute

They looked pretty cool.

Big time climbers, tables, counters, they just claimed any high ground they could get to.

I've owned lots of cats and three dogs in my life. The dogs were infinitely more rewarding, more fun, more loyal, more lovable and smarter than any of the cats. And they didn't shed more than the cats, nor slobber, and giving a dog a bath is hilarious.

I was hoping it would be some sort of Cheerleading squad pushing the limits between cheerleaders and strippers. Instead it turns out to be some sort of feline pit bull. Very disappointing.

I've always been a dog person, don't particularly like cats to be honest. We have a cool boxer, and a cat that I hate. Savannahs aren't typical cats though which is the only reason I'm even considering it. To give you an idea of the uniqueness of Savannahs, an F1 Savannah costs $15,000.00. We're looking at F2/F3 which are still very expensive but significantly less. They're awesome looking, loyal, and huge. My wife wants a "friend" for the cat I hate. I said hell no at first, but my wife really wants another cat. So I said ok, but I get to pick the cat.

The cat I currently hate was so annoying last night thatveven my wife was saying no more cats this morning....but those Savannahs are awesome.

pretty cat- looks and sounds a lot like a Bengal.

but I've always been a stray/rescue person- soooo many of those out there that are equally great and in need of a home.

You don't like cats, have one you hate, so you're going to buy an expensive, eccentric breed? I mean, it's not like there's tons of kittens in shelters or anything.

These cats are great. They're like dogs but in a cat body. That said, there are a lot of sweet, friendly, normal, cats. I had a cat who would give me hugs when I'd come home. Paw on each shoulder and kiss up to my chin repeatedly. Great cat. I also had a fat, one eyed cat who would totally ignore me until I was using the computer, then he'd just sit on my keyboard. Hilarious watching him try to use any depth perception.

Anyhow, if you're rolling in the cash to splurge on weird and exotic pets, I'm going to recommend a crocodile.

The idea is that if my wife really wants another cat, I'd prefer to get one that I'm less likely to hate, and more likely to like. Seems like an awesome looking, huge, exotic wild/domestic hybrid would be cooler than some typical boring shelter cat. If we could find a healthy savanah kitten at a shelter I'd be all over it.

If you pay 15k for a cat you need your head examined.
$15K for an F1, which is out of the question for us. The F3 Savannahs are closer to $3500/$4000. If we found a great deal on an F2 we might consider going a little higher.

Plenty of high end dog breeds cost just as much or more. This isn't just a regular cat. Savannahs are like having a wild jungle cat in your house, but domesticated perfectly.

Pump the brakes. You're spending 4k on a cat?
No, but it was fun to consider. Those cats are awesome.
A $4k awesome cat is essentially a unicorn. It don't exist. I did hear that there's a lot of awesome cats that will set you back maybe a hundo or two down at your local shelter.

If you guys had any idea how many cats & dogs have been rescued thanks to my wife you'd give it a rest with the rescue guilt trip. She's taken in and found homes for countless animals over the years that've been anonymously left outside her animal hospital, etc. Where do you think we got the cat I hate?
